OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
To Remove A Bearing/Race Assembly:
NOTE: The following instructions apply to most FWD vehicles and are intended to illustrate the process in general terms, not to be specific to anyone make/model vehicle. A combination of Sleeves (parts #1 thru #4), Sleeve Plates (parts #5a and 5b), and Bushings (parts #6 thru #19), will be necessary for different vehicles. Make sure to select the Sleeves deep enough to allow the removal of the bearing from the spindle. Also, make sure to select the Bushings that contact the inner/outer race of the bearing and not the ball bearings. (See Figure A, and Assy. Diagram.)
1. It will be necessary to make clear access to the bearing on both sides of the spindle. To do so, remove the vehicle's front wheel, axle nut, and outer tie rod nut. Disconnect the lie rod. Remove the front brake and brake rotor. Remove the axle from the hub, and with rope or wire, secure the axle out of the way from the job to be done.
NOTE: On some models it may be necessary to loosen the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle to prevent damage to the axle from the hubs.
ADAPTER SET
2. Remove the retaining clip and seal (located in the opening in the steering knuckle) from the appropriate side of the bearing. (See Figure A.)
3. Select a Sleeve (parts #1 thru #4) with a diameter large enough to rest against the outer edge of the steering knuckle. (See Figure B, and Assy. Diagram.)
4. Select a Sleeve Plate (parts #5a, #5b) that will fit snugly on the Sleeve (parts #1 thru #4) being used. (See Figure B, and Assy. Diagram.)
5. Place a Washer (part #22) on the Sliding Screw (part #21). (See Figure B, and Assy. Diagram.)
