Installing the BarMIX BM-1 VCA Remote Level Control
These Notes are for Authorised and Qualified Service Personnel ONLY. ARX accepts no responsibility for any damage or injury, however caused, if the steps outlined in these notes are attempted by unqualified and unauthorised users
The BarMIX Remote Level Control uses a VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) to vary the volume level. A control voltage (not actual audio) runs down a balanced lead from the remote control and plugs into one of two TRS jack connectors on the rear of the unit. When this option has been fitted, the front panel control on the BarMIX unit will be inoperative, and the Remote LED next to it will be lit.
1. Firstly, set up the BarMIX unit as described in the main body of the Owner’s Manual and verify that the unit is working. Then turn down all Level controls and disconnect the unit from the AC power
2. Run your cable from where the remote will be installed to where the BarMIX will be installed.
3. Terminate the cable at the BarMIX end with a Tip Ring Sleeve jack connector wired as follows:
Tip: Hot Control Voltage
Ring: Cold +15VDC
Sleeve: Screen -15VDC
4. Terminate the cable at the Remote Control end by connecting to the pins on the rear of the Remote Control as follows:
Control pot
Screen -15VDC
Tip Control Voltage
Ring +15VDC
5. Verify the pin connections, and then attach the Remote Control to the wall. It is designed to attach to a standard light switch/power switch wall cavity box
6. Make sure the BarMIX is powered down, then choose a Remote Input on the rear of the BarMIX unit (Zone 1 or Zone 2), and plug in your cable from the Remote Control
7. Power the BarMIX up, and it should now be operating under Remote Control. If not, re-check your wiring carefully
