ACC EMX 170 Industrial Unit
Your warranty is effective for 18 months starting on the date the system is shipped.
You can connect one or more EMX modules to most Infi- net controllers that have an expansion port. If you are not sure which controller to attach modules to, refer to the ACC EMX Modules Configuration Guide.
Warning
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions in this manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.
Version A
Before You Begin
You can install only one EMX Industrial Unit on a controller. Before you install this module, be sure you are not exceeding the number of inputs allowed on any particular controller. Refer to the ACC EMX Modules Configuration Guide (also enclosed with this product) for details.
Dimensions
As shown in Figure 1, each EMX Industrial Unit Sensor module is approximately 3.62
As shown in Figure 4, each EMX Industrial Unit Buffer Board is approximately 6.12
The units operate in the same environment as any Infinet controller. The EMX Industrial Unit is designed for flush
panel mounting ( DIN).

Warning
Be sure wiring and installations comply with local, state, and national electrical codes.
Note
This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class A limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus set out in the Radio Interference Regulations of the Canadian Department of Communications.
Avis
Le présent appareil numérique n’émet pas de bruits radioélectriques dépassant les limites applicables aux appareils numériques de la class A prescrites dans le Règlement sur le brouillage radioélectrique édicté par le ministère des Communications du Canada.

Wire Requirements
You wire the sensor with six-conductor, 24-gauge wire with overall shield and 12 pF/ft capacitance between conductors and 22 pF/ft capacitance between one conductor and others connected to the shield, Anixter 9I2408501 plenum or Anixter 9D240850 non-plenum. You may extend up to 180 ft of wire from the sensor to the Infinet controller.
Install the EMX Industrial Unit
1. Unpack
Do not damage the packaging material while unpacking. You should have the following parts:
EMX Industrial Unit Sensor Module
EMX Industrial Unit Buffer Board (where required)
• Shielded wire with 6 or 8 conductors (not included)
• Wire for External Thermistor (optional)
Infinet twisted pair cable (optional)
• Wire for electro-static discharge protection (not included)
3. Wire the Sensor
Wire the EMX Industrial Unit Sensor Module to the EMX Industrial Unit Buffer Board or to the built-in buffer board port on the controller itself, if applicable (see the installation guide for the controller):
1. Insert one wire under each of the following terminals on the board and tighten the screws down on them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Figure 2 shows the location of the terminals on the EMX Industrial Unit.

Certain controllers include a built-in EMX Industrial Unit buffer board. In these cases, the port location is shown in the controller’s installation guide.
2. Connect Buffer Board to the Infinet Controller (if Required)
Caution
Be sure you disconnect the Infinet controller’s AC power source before you connect any modules.
Check the installation guide that accompanies the controller to see if a buffer board is required to connect to the controller. If it is required, connect the buffer board to the Infinet controller as follows (otherwise proceed to wire the sensor as described in the next section):
1.Look on the bottom of your Infinet controller for an expansion port in approximately the center of the panel.
2. If you plan to use the Service Tool in the EMX Industrial Unit Service Port, you can connect the module to the Infinet, as described in the next section. Refer to the controller installation guide for information regarding Infinet cables.
3. Insert the two external thermistor wires under terminals 10 and 11. Tighten the screws down on the wires.
4. Attach a minimum 14 AWG ground wire, maximum 3 ft long, to the electro-static discharge screw.
Figure 3 shows the location of the electro-static discharge screw.
5. Attach the other end of the electro-static discharge wire to solid earth ground.
2.Look at the EMX Industrial Unit buffer board. Notice that it has a connector on the top. Plug the connector into the Infinet controller.
This protects the EMX Industrial Unit from electrostatic discharge, which could permanently damage the unit or severely shorten its life.
