reliable performance. As with all electrical equipment, however, there are a few basic
precautions you should take to avoid hurting yourself or damaging the unit:
!
Read the instructions in this handbook carefully. Be sure to save it for future
reference
!
Read and follow all warning and instruction labels on the equipment itself
!
Be sure to use only the supplied AC adapter and that your power source matches
the rating listed for it. If you are not sure, check with your dealer or with your local
power company
Avoid strong shocks. Don't use the AC adapter if it received a strong shock, has
!
fallen down or it appears damaged; immediately contact an authorized service
center.
Grasp your handset firmly. Otherwise it may fall and be damaged.
!
Do not operate near unshielded electrical blasting caps or in an explosive
!
atmosphere
Do not use the phone near water, or spill liquid of any kind on it. If you think that
!
some liquid is penetrated into the phone, immediately unplug it, dry it by a soft and
clean cloth and contact your dealer.
Respect the environment conditions. All the parts of this equipment are designed

Install the base in a dust-free location where the relative humidity and
temperature should be inside normal value for any electric appliances. Moreover,
the base should be away from direct sunlight and at least 1 meter from other
electronic devices which can create strong interferences (e.g. PC, air
conditioning systems, TV etc.). Finally, make sure that both power and
telephone outlets are available nearby and put the base as high as possible in
order to ensure the best radio signal.
Do not put anything on the power and telephone cables and don't place the base
!
where the cables be walked on. If the cables become damaged or frayed, contact
the service center immediately.
Place the base on a firm, solid surface. If you put it on something unsteady, it

3.13 Battery checking and handling
3.13.aBattery Level Indicator
Theicon displays continuously at the top right
corner. It shows the level of your battery power: the
more bars you see, the more power you have left.
When the batteries are low, all the bars disappear,
you hear a warning tone and the iconbecomes
red and starts blinking.
When the batteries are too low for the phone to
operate, the handset automatically turns off with
warning beeps. In this case, place the handset on
the charger to charge the handset batteries for 12 hours ad described in par.
2.3. During the charge, the bars inside the battery icon will "move" (shown
alternatively). At the end of the charging process (battery fully charged) all the
bars will be steadily shown inside the icon.
?
When the batteries are new, they don't provide 100% of their efficiency; it means that
they might be discharged earlier. To reach the full battery duty, you have to "run-in" the
batteries with at least 3-4 deep charging/discharging cycles, after that they will reach
their maximum capacity.
3.13.bRestoring the battery duty
When possible, to keep the maximum battery duty, charge the batteries only
when they are completely discharged, (i.e. when the battery icon has no bars
inside or, at least, no more than one bar) and don't remove the handset from the
base before the necessary time to provide a full charge. If with the time the
batteries don't allow the full duty, try to fully discharge them (by normally using
the phone) till making the handset automatically switched off as over stated,
then leave the handset in the base for 15 hours before removing it. Repeat this
deep charging/discharging cycle for at least 3 times. If the battery duty still
doesn't increase, replace the batteries.

!
Don't connect together (short circuit) the battery terminals: this may cause fire,
burns or explosions.
Never dispose batteries into fire. They may explode causing fire, burns or

explosions. Strictly follow any disposal regulation of your Country.
Use only genuine batteries and charge them with the base only. The use of non
!
genuine accessories may cause burns, fire or explosions; making serious
damages to the unit/batteries or serious injuries to people.
Don't expose batteries directly to temperatures below -20 or greater than 35
!
during their use and don't charge them outside the range of +5 to +55
The bars at the right of theicon continuously
show the signal strength received from the base. If
you are too far from the base, the radio signal might
become too weak and the phone might not access
the telephone line. In these conditions you can't
make or receive phone calls, for this reason, the
icon blinks on the display.
If you carry the handset too far from the base during a call, the telephone line
?
disconnects and the handset returns to Standby mode. Check to see if theicon is
blinking on the display. If so, move the handset closer to the base.
?
If the radio coverage of your base is not sufficient for your purpose, you might consider
to buy an additional optional base and register your handset on it, obtaining a small
personal cordless network. For further details please see par. 8.3 and 9.3.

Handle the SIM cards carefully without touching their golden contacts in order to
avoid damaging the cards or get their contacts dirty.

Never open the SIM card slot cover in the base bottom without disconnecting
!
the telephone line. You can touch the circuit board inside and this could be
dangerous while the telephone line is connected.
!
Be careful when you enter the PIN of your SIM card. If you fail to do so for a
certain number of times (three times usually), the card will be locked and you
will have to enter PUK code (provided by your mobile service provider) in your
cellular phone in order to restore the normal use of your SIM card.
Even if the SIM card is placed in the base, the phonebook contents are transferred in
?
the handset's memory (not in the base), so the base acts only as a wireless SIM card
reader.
?
The numbers contained in the SIM phonebook are copied into the handset one and
added to the entries already stored in it which are not overwritten. The maximum
number of entries is 200. If your handset phonebook already contains 140 entries, only
the first 60 entries on the SIM card will be copied.
This function will only copy numbers stored in your SIM card. Check that all numbers
?
you intend to copy are really stored on your SIM and not in your mobile phone's
memory. Refer to your mobile phone user guide for instructions on how to do this.

The SIM card copy is not guaranteed with all the types of SIM cards.
