The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS-1) represents a new breed of photonic-switching platforms for the next-generation of metro wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). Implementing Zero-Touch Photonics, the 1830 PSS-1 transforms traditional WDM into a fully flexible transport layer, with complete optical-layer visibility at the individual wavelength level, thereby simplifying service delivery, speeding time-to-revenuegeneration, and facilitating bandwidth expansion in metro networks for new broadband services.

Key benefits
• Deploy dual-line interfaces, providing 1+1 or ring-based network protection
• Offer forward error correction (FEC) technology to improve system performance, thus eliminating costly regeneration in metro applications
• Aggregate a high number and variety of client interfaces
• Support cost-effective multiplexing of any bit-rate services and transport over OTU-1/OTU-2.
• Simplify network design, implementation, and maintenance with auto power management and wavelength tracker
Applications
The Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-1 supports the transport and delivery of multiple services in a variety of environments:
• Metropolitan or national research networks for sharing IP that can be combined with the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-32/PSS-16 to extend these networks to regional distances
• Broadband transport networks for service providers to provide highbandwidth connectivity over long distances
• Core and metro network extension to provide the optimal amount of bandwidth to the customer premises through cost-effective, any WDM (xWDM) technology
• Campus networks for data-center protection or data sharing for public and private organizations such as universities, hospitals, banks and airports
• Multi-campus networks for longdistance cooperation among public and private companies and optimization of leased dark fiber
