ONE POINT REPAIR
MODEL : Models with built-in optical pick-up (KSS-210, 212, 213)
SUBJECT : Optical pick-up cleaning
CONTENTS : There are cases in which dust on the optical pick-up results in disc skipping and other
CD problems. Optical pick-ups which have become defective due to dust may be
thoroughly cleaned using the method described below. Also, when replacing the optical
pick-up, always clean the objective lens of the new pick-up.
PROCEDURE: 1. Remove the actuator cover and clean the top of the objective lens as shown in
fig. 1 below. Use the mini-swab dipped in cleaning solution.
(PART #: MINI-SWAB: 09-001-315-010 / CLEANING SOLUTION: 09-001-316-010)
PRECAUTIONS:
When cleaning, hold the objective lens so that it does not exceed its range of
motion. Also, avoid applying stress to the ED ARM.
2. Clean the beam splitter (BSP) as shown in fig. 2.
A) Moisten the mini-swab with the cleaning solution and lightly wipe the BSP surface
with wide strokes so as to remove all the dust.
B) Wipe the surface again with a dry mini-swab to insure that nothing remains on the
surface of the BSP.
