Utensil safety

Only use utensils that are suitable for use ina microwave oven.

Most glass, glass ceramic andheat-resistant glass-ware utensilsare excellentfor use in the micro-wave oven. Although microwaveenergy will not heat most glassand ceramic items,these utensils can become hot as heat transfers from the food to the container. The use of oven gloves to removedishes isrecommended.
Testing suitability of cookware

Utensils shouldbe checkedto ensure they are suitable for usein Microwave Ovens.

Place the cookware in the microwave alongwith aglass halffull of water. Heat onone minute. If the cookware feelshot,you shouldnot use it. If it is just slightly warm, youcanuse it forreheating but not for cooking. Ifthe dish is roomtemperature, it is suitablefor microwave cooking.

Many plasticdishes,cups, freezer containers and plastic wraps may be usedin the microwaveoven.Followmanufacturer’s instructions whenusingplastics in theoven. Avoid using plastic utensilswithfoods that have high fat or sugar content sincethese foods reach hightemperatures andcould melt some plastics.
Donot leaveoven unattended, and lookat itfromtime to time when heating or cooking food inplastic, paper or other combustible containers.Metal utensils and utensils with metallic trim shouldnot be used in the microwave oven, unless specifically recommended for microwave use.

Foil containers
Shallow foil containers may safely beused to reheatfoods inyour microwaveoven providing the followingrules are observed:
1.Foilcontainers should not bemore than 3 cms (11/4”) deep.
2.Foil lids must not beused.
3.Thefoil containers must be at least two-thirds full of food. Empty containersmust never be used.
4.Foil containers shouldbe used singly in themicrowave oven and should not beallowed totouch the sides. If your ovenhas a metalturntable or cooking rack, the foil container should beplaced on an upturned oven-proof plate.
5.Foil containers should neverbere-used in themicrowave oven.
6.Ifthe microwave ovenhas been inuse for 15minutes or more,allow it to cool before using it again.
7.The container and turntable may becomehot during use, takegreatcare whenremoving either fromthe oven. Itisadvisable to use an oven cloth or glovewhen doingso.

1. Remove any promotion labelfrom the door.
2. The ovenshouldbe installed ona flat, level surface. The surface must bestrong enough to safely beartheweight (13.5 kg) ofthe oven, and the contents. To avoid thepossibility ofcausing vibration ornoise the oven must be in astable position.
