Cisco 1800 Series
Chapter 1
Cisco 2800 Series
The Cisco 2800 Series Integrated Services Routers offer
performance improvements, increased security and voice
performance, new embedded service options, and increased slot performance and density . It
maintains support for most existing interface cards and modules available for the Cisco
1700 Series and Cisco 2600 Series routers. Comprised of four platforms: the Cisco 2801,
the Cisco 2811, the Cisco 2821, and the Cisco 2851 router, the Cisco 2800 Series features
the ability to deliver multiple high-quality simultaneous services at wire speed at up to
multiple T1/E1/xDSL connections. Wireless LAN Controller Modules are a component of
the Cisco Unified Wireless Network.

Sell This ProductWhen a Customer Needs These Features
Cisco 2800
Key Features
• Modular architecture—A wide variety of LAN and WAN options are available. Network
interfaces can be upgraded in the field to accommodate future technologies; Several types
of slots are available to add connectivity and services in the future on an
“integrate-as-you-grow” basis
accelerators, which when combined with an optional Cisco IOS Software upgrade help
enable WAN link security and VPN services
• Integrated dual Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet ports—Provides two 10/100 Ethernet
ports on the Cisco 2801 and Cisco 2811 and two 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports on the Cisco
2821 and Cisco 2851
• HWIC slots with enhanced functions including wireless LAN access points; Dual AIM
slots; Packet voice DSP module (PVDM) slots on motherboard
• IP Telephony solutions enable an all-in-one VoIP solution with Cisco Call Manager
Express, telephony interfaces, and Cisco Unity Express for voice mail and auto-attendant
functions
• On board hardware-based encryption for DES, 3DES, AES, and onboard slots for
PVDMs, and they all include high-speed Ethernet interfaces
• Support for an optional dedicated security AIM
• EzVPN eases administration and management of point-to-point VPNs by pushing new
security policies from a single headend to remote sites
• DSP modules deliver support for analog and digital voice, conferencing, tran scoding, and
secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) applications
• Network Admission Control (NAC)—A Cisco Self-Defending Network initiative seeks to
dramatically improve the ability of networks to identify, prevent, and adapt to threats by
allowing network access only to compliant and trusted endpoint devices
• Optional integrated power supply for distribution of PoE
• Real-time clock support
• Customer needs a solution that has a lower total cost of ownership compared to multiple separate devices
• Performance and densities for concurrent data, security, voice, and advanced services up to multiple T1/E1/xDSL
connections
• VPN connections, or plan to migrate to them over time
• Integrated security services which enable network device protection, threat defense, secure connectivity, and
endpoint protection and control
• Secure integrated call processing, voice mail, flexible telephony interfaces, redundancy for centralized call
processing, or robust DSP support, including local conferencing and transcoding
• Wireless support via integrated IEEE 802.11 a/b/g standalone access point HWICs
• Integrated Layer 2 switching capability in densities from 4 port to 48 port and the ability to utilize Cisco StackWise
connectivity.
