WaterproongOutdoor Connectors
Waterproongoutdoorconnectorsisa"1+3+3"process,thatis,wrappingonelayerof
PVCinsulatingtape,threelayersofwaterproofinsulatingtape,andthreelayersofPVC
insulatingtapearoundaconnector.
ThePVCinsulatingtapeisusedtopreventconnectorsfromdamage,ageing,andwater ingress.
Steps
1.Cleanthecableconnectorandensurethatnodirtoroilstainexistsontheconnector.
2.Wrapalayerofelectricinsulationtape.
Afteracableconnectorisconnected,wraptheconnectorwiththeinsulationtape downwardsinthedirectionthattheconnectoristightened,witheachroundcovering halfofthepreviousround,seeFigure10-1.Ensurethatthepartabout10mmtothe connectorendiswrappedwiththeinsulationtape.Whenwrappingtheconnector, stretchthetapewithproperforce.

Extendthewaterprooftapeuntilitswidthis50%to75%oftheoriginalwidth.
Wrapthreelayersofwaterprooftapeinthedirectionthattheconnectoristightened topreventtheconnectorfromloosening.Wraptheconnectorupwardsfortherst layer,downwardsforthesecondlayer,andthenupwardsagainforthethirdlayer, witheachroundcoveringaboutonethirdofthepreviousroundtopreventtheingress ofrainwater,seeFigure10-2.Donotcutoffthetapebeforetheconnectorisfully wrappedwiththreelayers.Ensurethatthepartwrappedwiththewaterprooftapeis morethan20mminlength.
Afterwrappingtheconnectorwiththewaterprooftape,gripandpinchthewrappedpart repeatedlywithbothhandstomakethewaterprooftapesecurelystucktothecable andthecableconnector.

lTheupper-layertapecovers1/2thebottom-layertapeinlength. lThewrappinglengthoftheUVresistancetapemustbe10mmlongerthanthat
ofthewaterprooftape.Wrapthreelayers.
Afterwrapthreelayers,gripandpinchboththeUVresistancetapeandwaterproof tapetoensurethattheyaresecurelyadhered.
