Overview of the CP-1124

The Telxon CP-1124 Connector Pod is designed for use with
the PTC-1124 or PTC-2124 pen-based portable te le-transaction

computer. It attaches to the left side of the PT C vi a each unit’s
docking/cradle connector.

The three ports on the front of the connector pod allow the
attached PTC to be connected to a variety of external devices,
including a keyboard, a remote or local network, and a serial
device such as a printer or host computer. In addition, a
charger jack allows the PTC’s battery pack to be charged via a
power module or a vehicle adapter.

Unpacking the CP-1124

Any additional accessories are shipped separately.

1. Unpack the box and save the packaging in case the pod is
ever stored or shipped to Telxon for se r v ic e.

2. Check the contents of the package to make sure you have
received everything ordered.

3. Check the unit for shipping damage. If anything is missing
or damaged, notify you r Telxon sales represent at i v e.

Connecting the connector pod to a PTC

CAUTION! The CP-1124 is designed for use with only a
PTC-1124 or PTC-2124. Do not attempt to connect it to any
other computer or PTC.

1. Suspend the PTC.

2. Make sure no
external devices are
connected to the
connector pod.

3. Align the CP-1124’s
docking connector
with the cradle
connector on the left
side of the PTC (se e th e fig ure above).

Note: Make sure the connector pod’s keyboard port is near
the top of the unit and the charger jack is near the bottom.

4. Firmly slide the connector pod onto the left side of the
PTC until it locks into place over the PTC’s accessory ridge
(see the figure above).

5. Make sure the connector pod is securely connected to the
PTC.

6. Resume the PTC.

Connecting external devices to the connector pod

Connecting a keyboard

A PC/AT-type keyboard (with a PS/2 connector) can be
connected to the connector pod for use with an installed PTC.

1. Make sure you are using the correct keyboard. If your
keyboard is switchable between XT and AT, make sure it
is in the AT position.

2. Suspend the PTC; then connect the keyboard’s PS/2
connector to the connector pod’s keyboard port.

3. Resume the PTC.

CAUTION! Unless you always suspend the PTC before
connecting or disconnecting a standard keyboard, the
keyboard can be damaged. To correct this problem, a rugged
keyboard can be purchased from Electronic Keyboards, Inc.
at www.electronickeyboards.com.

Using the Ethernet port

Follow the instructions below to allow your PTC-1124 or
PTC-2124 to communicate via the connector pod’s Ethernet
interface to a local or remote network.

Note: The CP-1124’s Ethernet port must be connected to an
Ethernet hub before the attached PTC is booted or resumed
from suspend. Otherwise, the connection will not be
recognized.

1. Suspend the PTC.

2. Insert one of the connectors on a standard RJ-45 cable into
the connector pod’s Ethernet port.

3. Insert the c on n e c tor on th e ot h er en d of t he ca bl e into an
Ethernet hub.

4. Resume the PTC.

Connecting a serial device

A standard serial device, such a host computer, can be
connected to the connector pod via serial cable.

1. Turn off the serial device.

2. Suspend the PTC.

3. To comply with FCC Part 15, Class A regulations, place an
open ferrite bead around the serial cable. Position the bead
very close to the connector that will attach to the connector
pod’s serial port. Snap the bead closed to secure it to the
cable.

4. Insert the serial cable’s 9-pin connector into the connector
pod’s serial port.

5. Connect the other end of the cable to the serial device.

6. If the cable connectors having securing screws, tighten the
screws to secure the cable to the serial device and to the
connector pod.

7. Turn on the serial device and resume the PTC.

Connecting a power module or a vehicle adapter

The following procedure allows you to charge an attached
PTC-1124 or PTC-2124’s lithium-ion ba tt ery pack via the
connector pod’s charger jack.

Equipment required:

·

A 15-VDC, 2.7-A AC adapter and an appropriate power
cord or a 15-VDC, 2.7-A vehicle adapter

cigarette lighter socket

Note: If you are using the PTC outside of the U.S. or Canada,
you need a power cord with a CEE-22 connector at one end
(for the power supply) and an appropriate wall plug at the
other end.

1. Suspend the PTC.

2. Connect the appropriate power cord to the AC adapter.

3. Connect the AC or vehicle adapter to the PTC’s power jack;
then plug the AC adapter’s power cord into an electrical
outlet or the vehicle adapter into a vehicle’s cigarette
lighter socket.

4. Resume the PTC, if desired. The PTC can be operate d
while its battery pack is being recharged.

5. Charge the battery pack for 2 to 3 hours. The PTC’ s Charge
LED blinks green when the pack has reached a 90% or
greater charge; it glows solid green when charging is
complete.

6. When charging is finished, disconnect the AC adapter from
the electrical outlet and the PTC or disconnect the vehicle
adapter from the cigarette lighter socket and the PTC.

Disconnecting external devices from the connector pod

1. Suspend the PTC.

2. Turn off the external device.

3. Unscrew the cable connector attached to the connector pod
(if necessary); then grasp the connector and pull it directly
out of the connector pod’s port.

4. If necessary, disconnect the other end of the cable from the
external device.

5. Resume the PTC.

Disconnecting the connector pod from a PTC

Follow these instructions if you ever need to disconnect the
connector pod from the PTC-1124 or PTC-2124.

1. Suspend the PTC.

2. Disconnect any external devices from the connector pod.

3. Grasp the connector pod and firmly pull it away from the
PTC. Do not use a rocking or twisting motion.

4. Resume the PTC.

Maintaining the connector pod

Operating conditions

The CP-1124 can be operated in temperatures between 32 and
122 degrees F (0 to 50 degrees C). Follow these guidelines to
help ensure you receive safe, reliable, and trouble-free service
from your connector pod:

·

Do not expose the connector pod to excessive dust, dirt, and
moisture.

·

Do not insert anything other than the appropriate cables
into the connector pod’s ports.

·

Do not attempt to repair the connector pod. Only a trained
Telxon technician may service the unit.

Cleaning the connector pod

To clean the connector pod, slightly moisten a soft, clean, lint­free cloth with a mi ld, nonabrasive cleaner, such as Windex,
and wipe the outside surfaces. Do not use a paper towel.

CAUTION! Do not soak the cloth and do not spray or pour
cleaning liquids directly onto the unit.

Storing the connector pod

Do not store the connector pod in temperatures below –22
degrees F (–30 degrees C) or above 158 degrees F (70 degrees
C) or in a damp or humid environment.

1. Suspend the PTC, if attached.

2. Disconnect any cables from the connector pod.

3. Disconnect the PTC from the connector pod.

4. Pack the connector pod in its original packing material or
in a padded box and put it in a safe place away f rom dus t,
dirt, humidity, and excessive heat or cold.
