Features of the CRW3200IX Drive

High speed writing/reading
The CRW3200IX drive supports up to 24X-speed writing for CD-R discs, and up to 10X-speed writing/rewriting for CD-RW discs. In addition, the drive supports data reading and digital audio data extraction at up to 40X sp eed.
Tip
The Par tial CAV method pe rmits 24X -s p eed writing for CD-R discs.
The CLV method and the 4X 10X Full CAV method permit 10X-speed writing/
rewritin g for CD-RW discs .
IEEE1394 interface
The CRW3200IX drive uses an IEEE1394 interface that enables you to use the drive as soon as it is connected to the com puter. The CRW3200IX drive supports a hot pl ug function that enables you to connect/ disconnect the drive while the co mputer is turned on.
SafeBurn™ (Enhanced stability writ ing technology)
The generous 8 MB buffer memory provides sufficient data storage to enable stable disc writing at high speeds. Even if data transfer from the computer is interrupted, the Buffer Underrun Protection function is activated to save CD-R discs from a writing error. (P. 35) Optimum Write Speed Control adjusts the writing speed to the optimum rate for every CD-R disc automatically. You can set the maximum writing speed with your CD writing software.
Note
•“Optimum Write Speed Control” can be activated when the maximum w riting speed is set at 12X or more.
The m inimum writing spe ed to be au tomatically selected is 8X. Man ually set the optimu m writing speed if a writing spe ed suppor ted by a disc is less than 8X.
High fidelity digital audio
The CRW3200IX drive supports extract ion of digital audi o data at up to 40X speed using CD writing software, as well as recording digit al audio with hig h fidelity eve n at 24X-speed writing.
1
Audio Master Quality Recording (High quality audio writing mode)
Audio Master Quality Recordin g enables you to create high quali ty aud io CDs. This mode is available f or CD-R discs with a capacit y of 650 MB and 700 MB. (P. 38)
Note
Audio C Ds that are created with Audio Master Quality Re cording may no t be played back on certain audio record ers and C D -R/R W dr ives.
CD-MRW (CD Mount Rainier ReWriting)
CD-MRW is a new standard of packet writing. Compared to the ordinary packet writing, CD-MRW provides many useful functions such as background formatting. (P. 39)

Precautions on Use

Handling Discs

To avoid trouble , such as writing errors, loss of recorded data, and malfunction of the drive, take the following precautions when handling discs.
Do not place discs in a hot or damp place or where they will be exposed to di rect sunlight.
Do not touch the disc surface. Hold the disc by the edge when handling it.
Remove dust and dirt from the disc surface. Use an air spray to remove dust. The
disc surface may be scratched if strongly wiped wi th a dry cloth.
Do not stick labels to the disc surface or write anything on it except where designated.
Do not clean discs with chemicals or de tergents.
Do not bend or drop di scs.

Compatible Discs

Discs that can be written on
The CRW3200IX drive can write on the follo wing discs. For the latest information about discs previously checked for compatibility with the drive, refer to the following website. YAMAHA CD-R/RW Drive website
URL: http://www.yamaha.co.jp/en gli sh/p rod u ct/ com pute r/
CD-R discs
The CRW3200IX drive can write at 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, 12X, 16X or 24X speed.
CD-R discs can be played back o n a CD-ROM drive or a CD playe r .
Note
24X-speed writing is en ab led with Partial CAV method. (P. 7)
Check the writing speeds your disc supports prior to writing.
CD-RW discs
The CRW3200IX drive can write/rewrite at 2X or 4X speed.
CD-RW discs can be read/played back on a device (e.g. CD-ROM drive) that supports CD-RW discs.
Note
Some discs support only 2X speed.
High Speed CD-RW disc s
The CRW3200IX drive can write/rewrite at 4X, 8X or 10X speed.
High Speed CD-RW discs ca n be rea d/ played back on a CD-RW dri ve tha t
bears the High Speed CD-RW logo or a device (e.g. CD-ROM drive) that supports CD-RW discs.
Note
When using the packet writing method (P. 38) for writing/rewriting onto High Speed CD-RW discs, you can select the 4X – 10X Full CAV method. For m o re information refer to the documentation that comes with your CD writing software. (Your CD writing software must support the Full CAV method, as does the CD Writing software that comes with the CRW3200IX drive.)
The Full CAV method is recommended when opening and editing a file on a CDRW disc with an application softw are.
In order to write, erase, read or play back High Speed CD-RW discs, use a CD- R / RW drive th at b ears th e High Speed CD-RW logo. Wh en using a CD-ROM drive to read/play back High Speed CD-RW discs, use a drive that supports CD-RW discs. If these discs are used with a CD -R/R W drive no t bearing the High Sp eed C D-RW logo, the discs may not be recognized, resulting in a computer not operating properly or other malfunctions occurring. Refer to the YAM A H A w ebsite below p rior to attempting to read/play b ack these discs on a YAMAHA CD-R/RW drive not bearing the High Speed CD-RW logo.
