Electricity at Work Regulations:
The Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 came into force in
England and Wales on the 1 April 199 0. This 1989 Regulation
places a duty on all employers and self-employed per sons to
ensure the elect rical system in the ir premises are co nstructed,
maintained and operated in such a manner as to prevent, so
far as reasonabl y practica l, danger. This incl udes ensuri ng all
electrical equipment conn ected to such elect rical systems are
safely constructed, maintai ned and operated.
All Xerox equipment have been designed to exacting safety
standards. They have all undergone a variety of stringent
safety tests including earth bond, insulation resistance and
electrical strengt h tests. Xerox manufacturing pl ants have
been awarded ISO 9000 quality certific ati on and are subject
to regular audits by the British Standards Institution or
equivalent national st andards body.
Xerox equipment which has been properly and regularly
serviced and maintained should not have to undergo
additional specific safety tests pursuant to the 1989
Regulation. Customers wishing to compl ete safety testing

How to Use this Document
1.Before connecting network cabling to the WorkCentre
Pro, perform the procedure contai ned in the System
Administration Guide entitled How to Connect to
Ethernet.
2.For Dynamic TCP/IP addressing refer to the section
entitled Dynamic/Static IP Addresses and WINS,
contained in the System Administration Guide.
3.Review the Table of Contents in the System
Administration Guide. Find the network operating
system (NOS) or protocol, which pertains to your
network.
4.Go to the page for your network and perform the
procedure(s).
5.Once you are finished installing the system it is
recommended you print a test page.
6.Check the print job for print quality. If print quality
problems exist, use t he Problem Solving section of the
Reference Guide to correct the probl em.
7.If your print job DID NOT print , see the Troubl eshooting
section for your operat ing system in the System
Administration Guide to correct the pr oblem.
8.Once your WorkCentre Pro is installed and printing, you
can repeat these steps to enable your printer to print
with additional protocols or network operating systems.

WorkCentre Pro Options
The WorkCentre Pro can be used as a high speed scan
device. You can use Xerox CentreWare Scanning Admin
Wizard to configure your WorkCentre Pro as a network
scanner if you have a workstati on on your network that has a
32 bit version of Windows. Details on this are avail able in the
document supplied with your WorkCentr e Pro entitled
CentreWareNetwork Scanning Services Guide.
For installation instructions on connecting your WorkCentre
Pro as a scanner without the use of CentreWare, refer to the
section in the System Administration Guid e entitled Scan Setup without CentreWare.
The WorkCentre Pro also supports Netw ork Accounting
software. For installation i nstructions on connecting to an
OfficeTrac server, refer to the section in the System
Administration Guide entitled Network Accounti ng.
The WorkCentre Pro supports Network Fax Solutions that
allow it to be used as a high speed fax device. For install ation

Universal Serial Bus Printing
USB Printer Port
The USB Printer Port can be used for printing di rectly from a
PC connected via a USB cable. USB printing from Windows
98/Me/XP and 2000 is supported. The USB port for printing is
located on the network controller at the back of the machine
on the bottom left hand side, next to the Ethernet port.
Go to the WorkCentre Pro and...
1. Enter the Tools pathway.
a) Press the Access ( or ) button.
b) On the keypad enter 111 1 or the current password.
Press Enter. The T o uch Scr een will be us ed fo r the
remainder of the data ent ry, unless instructed
otherwise.
2. Press More.
3. Press Connectivity and Network Setup.
4. Press Physical Media.
5. Press USB Printer Port.
6. Press Enable.
7. Use the up and down scroll arrows to select the sett ing
required for the Printer Port Timeout.

NOTE: The default Timeout value is 5 seconds. If you are
using an older PC and experience any print problems, you
may need to increase this value.
8. Press Save.
9. Press Exit Tools.
10. Verify the USB Print Kit has been install ed and the USB
Printer Port has been enabled by print ing a Configuration
Report. (For instructions click the Network Connect ivity
tab and select Configuration Report from the menu list.)
On the Configuration Report, under Device Profile, USB
Printer Port should read Installed and the USB Printer
Port Settings: USB Port Enabled should read Enabled.

11. Connect your WorkCentre Pro to the PC with a St andard
USB Peripheral Cable. The PC will detect the USB
device and will ask to inst all printer drivers.

Using the Simple Networ k Management Protocol (SNMP), bidirectional drivers communicate with the printer to provide
information on the a vailability and status of ins talled hardware
options, to monitor the print queue, and to pr ovide a his tory of
the last 25 completed jobs.
In support of TCP/I P or IPX/SPX communications, bidirectional driver s display the IP address and device name.
If the IP address o r device na me is not availabl e, or the SNMP
community name is not recognised, you can enter this
information into the driver.
From the Printers folder in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows
2000, or the Printers and Faxes folder in Wind ows XP, right
mouse click the printer’s i con and select Properties. Select
the Configuration tab and click Bi-Directional Communication Setup. Use the Device Name or TCP/IP
Address text box to make your entry. Click SNMP Community Name, if required. To enable bi-directional
communications check the Enable Bi-Directional Communication checkbox.
When first opened or r efreshed by the user, the dr iver updates
its configuratio n, sett ings and st atus info rmati on and stor es a
copy of this information i n the workstation’s system registry.
In the event that the driver cannot communicate with the
printer, this backup copy will be presented along with a
warning that the device is not responding to communicat ion.

Configuration Cloning
Configuration Cloning enabl es you to conveniently copy the
configuration settings and web-generated templates of one
WorkCentre Pro device and transfer them to other
WorkCentre Pro devices operating wit h the same version of
Controller software.

The administrator password is requir ed to create a copy of the
Configuration Cloning set ti ngs on the source device.
Groups of settings are available fo r cloning selection,
depending upon the optional features inst alled on the source
device. For example, Scan Settings will be available for
selection only if the Scan to File opti onal feature is installed on
the source device.
After selecting the settin gs to be cl oned, the configuration
cloning file is created (in .dl m format) by clicking the Clone
button and following additional on-screen instructions.
The configuration cloning fi le i s then submi tted to other
WorkCentre Pro devices as a print job, effectively trans ferring
and applying the selected source device settings to the
recipient devices.
NOTE: The cloning of option settings on the source device
does not install opti onally-purchased f eatures on the rec ipient
device. In other words, it is not possi ble to install optionallypurchased features, such as Image Overwrite Security or EMail, through cloning.
Depending upon the opt ional featur es inst alled on the s ourc e
device, some or all of the followi ng Groups of settings will be
available for cloning.

transferred to other WorkCentre Pro devices, perform the
following steps.
Go to a workstation and...
1. Launch an Internet Browser.
2. Enter the TCP/IP Address of your WorkCentre Pro in the
Address or Location field and pres s Enter.
3. At the CentreWare Inter net Services Home Page, Click
the Properties tab or click Properties in the dir ec tory
tree.
4. Click the plus symbol to the left of General Setup.
5. Click Cloning in the directory tree.
6. Follow the Cloning Instructions displayed on screen.

8. Provide the administrator pa ssword, when prompted.

Wireless Networking (802.11)
Interoperability
Wireless networks use radio signals to connect devices
throughout busi nesses and homes. Wireless networ ks can be
instituted as a fully funct ional local area network, but without
the cables.
The WorkCentre Pro i s compatible with Ethernet 802.11b
wireless networks.
Attaching the WorkCentre Pro to your Ethernet 802.11b
wireless network can improve productivity by giving
employees access to printing capabilities and all other
optional network featur es anywhere within range of an access
point including conf erence rooms, colleagues offices, tr aining
rooms and branch offices. Wireless networking allows
increased mobility of the WorkCentre Pro devices by allowing
you to place them anywhere you need to. You could use the
WorkCentre Pro in no n wired loc ations such as plaster walled
structures and older, sol id wal led buildings. The WorkCentre
Pro can communicate fully with all devices on the wirel ess
network as well as those connected to the wired Ethernet
network.
To Communicate with the WorkCentre Pro over your Wireless
Network
1.Purchase a compatible Ethernet 802.11b wireless
Ethernet bridge.
2.Connect your WorkCentre Pro Ethernet port to the
wireless Ethernet bridge.
3.Click the Network Connectivity tab and select Printer

Image Overwrite is available upon request. When available,
the overwrite components are enabl ed by the Machi ne
Administrator.
Immediate Image Overwrite ensures th at al l i nformation
related to a job is immediate ly overwritten after the successful
completion of each job. You can view job overwrite status at
the machine using the Job Status pathway button located on
the User Interface. The system will display a fault message

On Demand Image Overwrite irretriev eably overwrites all of
the physical areas of the disks that hold data. All jobs in the
active queue will be del eted and overwritten. Jobs sent during
the overwrite process are held and released after the
overwrite process has finished.
NOTE: Before you Start - Verify the Ethernet connection is
complete, the desired speed is set and all faults, messages
and jams are cleared.
Immediate Image Overwrite...
Go to the WorkCentre Pro and...
1. Enter the Tools pathway.
a) Press the Access ( or ) button.
b) On the keypad enter 111 1 or the current password.
Press Enter. The T o uch Screen wi ll be us ed for t he
remainder of the data ent ry, unless instructed
otherwise.
2. Enter setup menus
a) Press More
b) Press Configuration and Setup.
c) Press Optional Services.
d) Press Overwrite Security.

3. When the Overwrite Securit y screen displ ays, note whi ch
of the two selection buttons is highlighted as the current
setting. The available settings are Enable and Disable.
a) To change settings, press Enable or Disable, then
press Save. To exit the settings screen, without
making any changes, press Cancel.
b) Press Exit Tools. If changes were made, the
machine will reboot automatically.
On Demand Overwrite from a WorkCentre Pro
Go to the WorkCentre Pro and...
1. Enter the Tools pathway.
a) Press the Access ( or ) button.
b) On the keypad enter 1111 or the current password.
Press Enter. The T o uch Scr een will be us ed f or the

2. Enter Overwrite menu
a) Press More. (up to 2 times)

delete image data from the hard disks. Any existing jobs in the
queue will be deleted. The machine wi ll be taken offline and
will be unable to rec eive any incomi ng jobs. Int erne t Servi ces
will not be available until the machine reboots and comes
back online.

hard disks. The process takes up to 20 minutes.
To cancel the overwrite procedure press Abort. Enter the
current administrato r password. The overwrite procedure
may have already started at this st age. Press Back to
continue with the overwrite.

To verify the overwrite has completed view the Confir mati on
Sheet, under Confirmation Details. The Job Information:
Status ESS Disk should read ’SUCCESS’. The St atus Image
Disk should read ’SUCCESS’.
On Demand Overwrite from a workstation...
1. Launch an Internet Browser.
2. Enter the TCP/IP Address of your WorkCentre Pro in the
Address or Location field and pres s Enter.
3. At the CentreWare Inter net Services Home Page, Click
the Properties tab or click Properties in the directory
tree.
4. Click Disk Overwrite in the directory tr ee.
5. Enter the administration id and password.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Start.
