USER GUIDE
WHAT IS AN ATA (ANALOG TELEPHONE ADAPTER)?
The Sagem Fax ATA 101S is a voice over IP gateway allowing you to connect analog terminals (fax machine, telephone, etc.) to a voice over IP infrastructure (IP operator, IPPBX or VoIP gateway).
Through the Sagem Fax ATA 101S, you can continue to use your analog telecommunications peripherals via your voice over IP telephone architecture.
RECOMMENDATIONS AND FACTORY SETTINGS
Make sure to reserve an IP bandwidth sufficient to provide transmission quality.
The bandwidth to be reserved depends on the codec you use:
G711: 64 Kbps
G729: 8 Kbps
T. 38 : up to 14.4Kbps
The default network data of the setup Ethernet port (LAN port) are as follows:
IP address: 192.168.134.1
Sub-network mask: 255.255.255.0
User name: user
Password: user
Important
The Sagem Fax ATA 101S has two Ethernet ports (RJ45):
LAN provides access to the unit’s setup via the
manual setup method (see “See Installation and manual setup (via the Web setup interface)”, page 3).
WAN provides access to the unit’s automatic setup (see “See Automatic installation and setup (via TFTP)”, page 8) and allows the unit to be connected to an IPBX, a VoIP gateway or an IP operator.

INSTALLATION AND MANUAL SETUP (VIA THE WEB SETUP
INTERFACE)
When you do not have many units to set up, it is recommended to set up the ATA through the Web interface. This setup mode allows you to set up your Sagem Fax ATA 101S simply and quickly.
Note
This method is recommended when installing and setting up 1 to 10 units.
Accessing the Web setup interface
1. Connect the LAN RJ45 connector located at the rear of the unit
directly to your computer via a crossed cable, or to a Hub/Switch via a straight cable.
Important
Make sure to use a Hub/Switch that is not connected to your computer network. This will avoid any IP address conflicts.
2. Set up your network card so that it is located in the same IP
network as the LAN connection socket of your Sagem Fax ATA 101S. You can use the following default IP settings:
• IP address: 192.168.134.10
• Sub-network mask: 255.255.255.0
• Default gateway: blank

• Password: user
You can then assign an IP address (fixed or dynamic via a DHCP server) to the Sagem Fax ATA 101S WAN port via the Web setup interface.
Manual setup of the Sagem Fax ATA 101S
Step 1 - Basic > LAN/WAN Setup menu
eth0 setting
These settings do not need to be changed as they are the settings of the Sagem Fax ATA 101S "LAN" interface, i.e. the interface that allows you to access the ATA unit setup interface.
4 Sagem Fax ATA 101S
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 5 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
vif0 setting
This setting allows you to assign an IP address to the WAN interface of your Sagem Fax ATA 101S so that you can connect it to your computer network, or more specifically to your VoIP architecture.
1. Check Select on the line corresponding to vif0.
2. Click on Configure interface.
3. Two options are then proposed:
Dynamic IP address from DHCP server: select this mode if
you want your network’s DHCP server to automatically assign an IP address to the WAN interface of your Sagem Fax ATA 101S (this option is activated by default).
Static IP address: select this mode if you want to manually
define the fixed IP address of the WAN interface of your Sagem Fax ATA 101S.

VoIP administrator, fill in the Outbound proxy, Registar proxy and SIP domain fields.
User guide 5
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 6 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
Step 3 - SIP Configuration > SIP general > Tel to IP routing table menu
If you do not use a proxy, you can set up the routing tables via this menu. The routing tables of the Sagem Fax ATA 101S allow you to create a routing of type "Tel to IP".
Route the call coming from the analog terminal connected to the Sagem Fax ATA 101S to a specific IP terminal (IPBX, VoIP gateway, IP telephone, IP fax machine, etc.) according to the dialled number prefix.
1. To create a routing table click on Add.
The following window is displayed:
1. In the Speed dial field, enter the code used to detect the routing
table to be used when the user dials a number starting with this code. This code can contain one to three digits.
2. In the User name and IPv4 addr fields, enter the information
relating to the VoIP peripheral to which the call is to be routed. You can also define the communication port (the ATA default port proposed is the port normally used by the SIP protocol).
3. To validate, click on Add.
The new routing rule is then created.
6 Sagem Fax ATA 101S
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 7 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
Step 4 - SIP Configuration > SIP Phone menu
ENG
The User name and Display Name settings must always be entered, whether you use a SIP proxy or not. The Auth. user name and Auth. password settings should be entered if you connect the ATA to a SIP proxy requiring authentication. In all cases, the information communicated by the network administrator must be entered.
The Preferred codec setting lets you choose the codec to be used to compress voice. Your infrastructure must support at least one of the following codecs:
• G711 PCMA
• G711 PCMU
•G729
The Fax Mode setting lets you choose your fax transfer mode. You can choose between two technologies:
Note
You must define the technology supported by your VoIP infrastructure. In doubt, choose the T.38 option.
Fax pass-through (only via the G.711 encoder): in this mode,
the VoIP infrastructure considers a fax to be an ordinary voice call.
User guide 7
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 8 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
T. 38 : in this mode which is specifically adapted for fax transfers,
the signals are demodulated and their digital data are encapsulated in IP packets. This mode increases reliability and considerably lowers bandwidth needs compared with the "pass through" mode.
The Sagem Fax ATA 101S can support DTMF recognition, call transfer, putting on hold, VAD, etc.
If need be, you can contact our support department “See Customer Information”, page 17).
AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION AND SETUP (VIA TFTP)
To administer a large number of Sagem Fax ATA 101S, it is recommended to use the TFTP method. This mode allows a server to deploy firmware updating and setting up on the ATAs in the network.
Note
This method is recommended when installing and setting up more than 10 units.
Installing the TFTP server
You first have to install a TFTP server.
• If you already have an existing TFTP server, you can use it to remotely deploy the settings of your ATA units.
• If you do not have a TFTP server, you have to install one in your network before continuing.
Creating CLI command files
After installing your TFTP server, you have to create CLI command files. The server will load them into the ATAs which will then run them.
You have to create at least three files.
The first, so-called, entry file specifies the name of the up-to-date firmware (which the ATAs will download if need be), and the name of the setup file applicable to all the ATAs (see next paragraph).
The example below is the content of an entry file called "TFTPEntry.txt":
fw_filename = S3-SIP-PIT-1-26-355-1019.bin
common_config = common_parameters.txt
8 Sagem Fax ATA 101S
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 9 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
The second file includes the setup commands common to the ATAs (for example, SIP proxy, coder used, fax protocol used).
The example below is the content of the "common_parameters.txt" file (named as announced in the entry file). It defines "voipprovider.org" as domain, registrar and SIP proxy (for all the ATAs in the network):
sip
deregister all
confighost vif0 -o -useproxy yes -h
voipprovider.org -p 5060 -rtpmin 17000
-rtpmax 18000 -keepalive yes 20
configreg voipprovider.org
configproxy voipprovider.org
..
save
This CLI command file must be in ASCII format.
Note
To create the ASCII file, contact Sagem Communications or your dealer to obtain the ATA’s list of CLI commands.
ENG
The third file contains the setup commands specific to a given ATA, for example SIP account settings if the infrastructure uses proxy, or if not, a routing table.
The name of this file is suffixed by the MAC address of the ATA with which it is associated. There must be a corresponding file of this type for each ATA in your network.
User guide 9
Sagem_Fax_ATA101S.book Page 10 Jeudi, 21. février 2008 5:09 17
For example, for the ATA with a MAC address 00:60:4c:99:99:99 there is a corresponding file "Sagem_00604c999999.txt", the content of which (below) specifies the settings of the SIP account (user name, password, etc.) likely to be used with this ATA:
MACConfigversion = V1_01
sip/configphone 1 444719 -o -d Lecoq
sip/configauth 1 444719 MySecretPassword
save
sip/register all
These CLI command files must be in ASCII format.
Note
To create these ASCII files, contact Sagem Communications or your dealer to obtain the ATA’s list of CLI commands.
Loading files from the TFTP server
After creating the command files, you have to connect the ATAs to your company’s computer network. For this purpose, you have to use your ATA "WAN" port. Indeed, only this port has a DHCP client allowing the ATA to request an IP address from the DHCP server and also to receive the address from the TFTP server and the input filename. These must be defined at the DHCP server end, as options 66 and 67 respectively.
Important
Make sure not to use the ATA LAN port for the "automatic setup" mode, as you will encounter IP address conflicts.
As soon as it is connected to the network, each ATA automatically downloads the input file. If this file specifies a new firmware, this firmware is then downloaded. If not, the ATA downloads its two setup files (the common file then the customized file) to run their CLI commands.

Note

Etape 1 - Menu Basic > LAN/WAN Setup
