4. Design and function
4.1 Description
The prevailing pressure is measured at the sensor element through the deformation of a diaphragm. By supplying
power, this deformation of the diaphragm is converted into an electrical signal. The output signal from the pressure
transmitter is amplied and proportional to the prevailing pressure.
GB

5. Transport, packaging and storage
5. Transport, packaging and storage
5.1 Transport
Check the submersible pressure transmitter for any damage that may have been caused by transport.
Obvious damage must be reported immediately.
GB
5.2 Packaging
Do not remove packaging until just before mounting.
Keep the packaging as it will provide optimum protection during transport (e.g. change in installation site, sending for
repair).
5.3 Storage
Permissible conditions at the place of storage:
Storage temperature: -30 ... +80 °C
Mount the protection cap for storing the submersible pressure transmitter, so that the diaphragm will not be damaged.
Avoid exposure to the following factors:
■
Direct sunlight or proximity to hot objects
■
Mechanical vibration, mechanical shock (putting it down hard)
Store the submersible pressure transmitter in its original packaging in a location that fulls the conditions listed above.
If the original packaging is not available, pack and store the instrument as described below:
1. Wrap the instrument in an antistatic plastic lm.
2. Place the instrument along with shock-absorbent material in the packaging.
3. If stored for a prolonged period of time (more than 30 days), place a bag containing a desiccant inside the packaging.
WARNING!
Before storing the instrument (following operation), remove any residual media. This is of particular
importance if the medium is hazardous to health, e.g. caustic, toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive, etc.

6. Commissioning, operation
6. Commissioning, operation
WARNING!
Observe the working conditions in accordance with chapter 3 “Specications”.
CAUTION!
Prior to commissioning, the submersible pressure transmitter must be subjected to a visual inspection.
■
Leaking uid is indicative of damage.
■
Only use the submersible pressure transmitter if it is in perfect condition with respect to safety.
6.1 Mechanical mounting
The protection cap protects the internal diaphragm from damage. Remove the protective cap if the medium is viscous
or contaminated.

6.2 Electrical mounting
6.2.1 Connection assembly
■
Use the submersible pressure transmitter with shielded cable and ground the shield on at least one end of the lead,
if the lines are longer than 30 m or leave the building.
■
When the shield of the cable is being connected, no potential dierences should exist between the medium, the
vessel and the ground connection of the junction box or the control cabinet.
■
Make sure that no moisture enters at the cable end.

6.2.3 Setting up a voltage supply
The power supply for the pressure transmitter must be made via an energy-limited electrical circuit in accordance with
section 9.3 of UL/EN/IEC 61010-1, or an LPS to UL/EN/IEC 60950-1, or (for North America) class 2 in accordance with
UL1310/UL1585 (NEC or CEC). The power supply must be suitable for operation above 2,000 m should the pressure
transmitter be used at this altitude.
■

Current output (3-wire): ≤ (power supply - 3 V) / 0.02 A - (cable length in m x 0.14 Ω)
Voltage output (3-wire): > 100 kΩ
6.3 Functional check
The output signal must be proportional to the prevailing pressure. If this is not the case, this may indicate a damaged
diaphragm. In this case, see chapter 8 “Faults”.

7. Maintenance and cleaning
7. Maintenance and cleaning
7.1 Maintenance
This submersible pressure transmitter is maintenance-free.
Repairs must only be carried out by the manufacturer.
7.2 Cleaning
CAUTION!
■
Prior to cleaning, switch o and disconnect the submersible pressure transmitter from the voltage
supply.
■
Clean the instrument with a moist cloth.
■
Wash or clean the dismounted instrument before returning it, in order to protect persons and the environment from exposure to residual media.
■
Residual media in dismounted instruments can result in a risk to persons, the environment and
equipment. Take sucient precautionary measures.
■
Do not use any pointed or hard objects for cleaning, as they may damage the diaphragm of the process
connection.
For information on returning the instrument see chapter 9.2 “Return”.

Strictly observe the following when shipping the submersible pressure transmitter:
All submersible pressure transmitters delivered to WIKA must be free from any kind of hazardous substances
(acids, bases, solutions, etc.).
When returning the instrument, use the original packaging or a suitable transport package.
To avoid damage:
1. Wrap the instrument in an antistatic plastic lm.
2. Place the instrument along with shock-absorbent material in the packaging. Place shock-absorbent material evenly
on all sides of the transport packaging.
3. If possible, place a bag containing a desiccant inside the packaging.
4. Label the shipment as carriage of a highly sensitive measuring instrument.
5. Mount the protection cap.
Information on returns can be found under the heading “Service” on our local website.
9.3 Disposal
Incorrect disposal can put the environment at risk.
Dispose of instrument components and packaging materials in an environmentally compatible way and in accordance
with the country-specic waste disposal regulations.
