When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:
Read all instructions, including these important safeguards and the care and use instructions in this manual.
Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or a heated oven.
Do not leave unit unattended while plugged into electrical outlet.
The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Focus Electrics may
result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
The lid must be correctly in place during use and the spout must be free from obstruction.
Do not operate if the appliance is not working properly or if it has been damaged in any manner. For service information see warranty page.
Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.
For household use only.
To prevent burns, personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.

Do not move an appliance containing hot foods or hot liquids.
Do not use this appliance on the stovetop, under broiler, in the oven, in the
refrigerator or freezer.
Do not refill the water reservoir while the appliance is on. Turn the machine off and allow to cool before refilling with water.

2
To prevent electrical shock, personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.

ELECTRICITY PRECAUTIONS

To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or other electric parts in water or other liquids.
Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug.
Do not use this appliance outdoors.
Do not plug cord into electrical outlet unless power switch is in “OFF” position.
Always switch unit to “OFF” position and unplug from electrical outlet when not in
use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
Always ensure kettle is switched to “OFF” position before removing from the power base.
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled by children or tripped over.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
Do not use an outlet or extension cord if the plug fits loosely or if the outlet or extension cord feels hot.
Keep the cord away from hot parts of the appliance and hot surfaces during operation.
3
To prevent burns or other personal injuries to children, read and follow all instructions and warnings.
Close supervision is always necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
Do not allow children to operate or be near the Kettle, as the outside surfaces are hot during use.
Do not allow cord to hang over any edge where a child can reach it. Arrange cord to avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement.

USING YOUR KETTLE

First Use: Remove all packaging from the kettle and the power base. Before using
wash all loose parts in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry. NOTE: We recommend that the kettle be boiled two to three times and emptied after each occasion, to remove any residues from the manufacturing process.
1. Place appliance on dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from any edge.
2. With switch in the “OFF” position, plug cord into a 120 volt AC electric outlet
only.
3. Fill the kettle, taking care not to splash the electrical contacts on the bottom of
the unit, and observing the MIN and MAX levels. If the electrical contact area of the kettle is splashed, it should be dried or left to dry before use.
4. Make sure the water filter is in place in the kettle pour spout.
5. Fit the kettle onto the power base and depress the switch into the “ON” position.
The blue power indicator will illuminate. When the kettle has finished boiling, the automatic cut-off system will switch the kettle to the “OFF” position.
Always ensure the water fill does not exceed the MAX level and is above the
MIN level as indicated on the inside of the kettle body.
Only use the kettle for boiling water.
Do not operate the kettle dry. Always use with water.
The kettle body can only be used with the complementing po wer base, and vice
versa: These parts cannot be interchanged with other types or brands of kettles available.
Ensure the power is switched off before removing the kettle from the base.
Use extreme caution when pouring as boiling water can cause scalding.
Some smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of
manufacturing oils – this is normal.
4
Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and
cooling – this is normal.
Your kettle is equipped with a self-resetting boil-dry protector: If the kettle is
accidentally switched on with less than the minimum level of water, the boil-dry protector will operate to safely cut-off the power. For continued use, switch the kettle to “OFF” position and allow the kettle and control system to cool down before re-use.

CLEANING YOUR KETTLE

1. Switch kettle to “OFF” position, unplug from electrical outlet and allow the entire
unit to cool completely before cleaning. Do not immerse the kettle, base, cord, plugs or other electric parts in water or other liquid.
2. The exterior of the kettle can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
3. The water filter can be removed for cleaning, but should be put back in place
before next use. To remove filter, grab tab with finger and thumb, pull filter slightly towards the pour spout and lift out. To replace filter, slide back into place.
4. Decalcify the Kettle periodically. See the “Decalcifying Your Kettle” section.

DECALCIFYING YOUR KETTLE

Over time, mineral deposits build up on internal parts and effect the operation of the appliance causing the need for your kettle to be decalcified periodically to maintain performance. The frequency of decalcification depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the kettle. Indications that decalcifying is necessary are:
o Increased noise during pr oduction
Excessive steaming
o
Longer heating times
o
If usage is regular, decalcifying should be carried out as follows:
o With soft water, decalcify once per year o With medium water, decalcify every quarter year o With hard water, decalcify once a month
We recommend the use of vinegar for decalcifying.
1. Fill kettle to the MAX level mark using ½ white household vinegar and ½ water.
2. Plug unit into electrical outlet, switch to “ON” position and allow the kettle to fully
heat and shut off automatically. Dispose of “vinegar” when complete.
3. Follow the same step as above except using clear cool water to rinse any
remaining traces of the vinegar from the system. Rinse twice using clean cool water each time.
