When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including:
Read all instructions.
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons do not immerse
cord, plugs, or other electric parts in water or other liquids.
Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by or near children.
Always unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool
before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. For service information see warranty page.
The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Focus Electrics may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.
Do not use this appliance outdoors.
Do not let cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
Always plug cord into wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “OFF,” then
remove plug from wall outlet.
Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance while hot.
Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming
entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
Longer extension cords are available, but care must be exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, ensure that the marked electrical rating of the extension cord is equal to or greater than that of the appliance. If the plug is of the grounded type, the extension cord must be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. To avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement, position the extension cord so that it does not hang over the edge of the counter, table or other area where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
2
Do not use an outlet or extension cord if the plug fits loosely or if the outlet or extension cord feels hot.
Avoid contact with moving parts.
Keep hands and utensils out of collection bowl while making cotton candy.
Use only cotton candy cones for collecting cotton candy.
For household use only.

3. With the “ON/OFF” switch set in the "OFF" ( O ) position, plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC electric outlet only.
4. Set the “ON/OFF” switch to “ON” ( l ) and let run for a minimum of 5 minutes to preheat. The extractor head will be spinning.
5. When preheated, set the “ON/OFF” switch to “OFF” ( O ) and wait until the extractor head comes to a complete stop. Add one level tablespoon of sugar to the center well of the extractor head. To level sugar in the extractor head, gently tap the flossing rim a couple times. Do not use a heaping tablespoon, over fill chamber, or get sugar on the top of the extractor head. Note: Be sure that you have the bowl assembly assembled to the heating base before heating or attempting to extract floss.
6. Set the “ON/OFF” switch to “ON” ( l ). Some sugar may be ejected from the extractor as it spins.
7. When you begin to see a web of cotton candy forming around the flossing rim, begin collecting it with a cotton candy cone. This is best achieved by:
A. Hold the cone vertically and rotate
the cone while circling the bowl.
B. Once some cotton candy is collected,
hold the cone horizontally then roll the cone while going back and forth over the rim. Be careful not to touch the spinning extractor head with cone or collected candy.
8. When all sugar has been dispensed, set the “ON/OFF” switch to “OFF” ( O ) and let the extractor head come to a complete stop. If more candy is desired, repeat steps 4 - 7. Candy will be extracted more quickly during this cycle. If no more candy is desired, unplug and let appliance cool completely before cleaning.
A small amount of smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.
Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.
H
ELPFUL HINTS
Regular granulated sugar can be used as well as flossing sugars made specifically for cotton candy. Flossing sugar will produce the best results.
Artificial sweeteners or sugar-free candies cannot be used for making cotton candy. Artificial sweeteners burn in the extractor head and do not floss.
Hard candies can be used to create cotton candy. Crush candies finely and use in place of sugar in the extractor head. Do not use more than 1 tbsp. crushed candy to make cotton candy.
Flavor extracts (like those used to make candies) can be used to produce flavored floss. Add no more than tsp. flavor extract to the sugar in the extractor head chamber then, follow steps to make cotton candy.
Pre-sweetened drink mixes may be mixed with sugar to create flavored floss. Avoid drink mixes sweetened with artificial sweeteners. These will burn and clog the extractor head. Use ½ tsp. drink mix with 2 ½ tsp. sugar to make cotton candy.
4
Never use extra fine granulated or “free flowing” sugars in your cotton candy maker. These sugars will clog the extractor head.
When collecting cotton candy, rest the cone against the flossing rim while you turn it. This will help collect candy without touching the extractor head.
The Cotton Candy maker must be preheated for a minimum of five minutes before use. If it is not preheated, the sugar will not melt and your extractor head will clog.
Clean the cotton candy maker after 2 or 3 cycles to keep the extractor head from clogging and to ensure optimal results. If extractor head is not cleaned every couple cycles, it will stop producing floss and results will be poor.
Between cycles, use a cone or wooden spoon to push any unspun sugar down into the collection bowl. This will prevent the cotton candy getting stuck along the rim before it can be collected.
C
LEANING YOUR COTTON CANDY MAKER
1. When done making cotton candy, or to clean between batches, unplug the
cotton candy maker and let it cool for 15 minutes.
2. Remove extractor head and soak in hot, soapy water. Rinse and spin by
hand to remove as much water as possible, towel dry exterior. If necessary, use a dish cloth to remove any sugar stuck on the extractor head. Do not use any abrasive scrubbers, as damage to the finish may occur.
3. With dry hands, plug appliance into wall outlet, place extractor head back
on heating base, set the “ON/OFF” switch to “ON” ( l ), and let spin for 1520 seconds. Set the “ON/OFF” switch to “OFF” ( O ), unplug, and remove extractor head again, towel dry exterior and set aside. This removes most excess water from inside the extractor head.
4. Remove the bowl assembly from the heating base. Wash in warm, soapy
water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Reassemble appliance. Bowl assembly parts can be washed in a dishwasher, top rack only. Do not place the extractor head in the dishwasher. Do not place the heating base in water or any other liquid.
This appliance has no user serviceable parts.
