Precautions for users of implanted cardiac pacemakers
Cardiac pacemakers ( applies only to digital cord less telephones):
Wireless Technology Res earch, LLC (WTR), an independent res earch entity, led a multidiscipli nary evaluation of the inter ference between portable wireless telephon es and implanted cardiac pacemakers. Suppo rted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, W TR recommends to physicians that:
Pacemaker pat ients
• Should keep wireles s telephones at least six inches from the pac emaker.
• Should NOT place wirel ess telephones directly over the pacemaker, such as in a breast po cket, when it is turned ON.

About cordless telephones
Privacy: The same features that m ake a cordless teleph one convenient create some limitations. Telephone c alls are transmitted
between the teleph one base and the cordless handset by radio waves, so the re is a possibility that the cordless te lephone conversations could be intercepted by r adio receiving equipment within r ange of the cordless handset. For this reas on, you should not think of cordless teleph one conversations as being as private as those on cor ded telephones.
Electrical p ower: The telephone base of this cordless teleph one must be connected to a working electri cal outlet. The electrical o utlet should not be contro lled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made from th e cordless handset if the telephone base i s unplugged, switched off or if the electric al power is interrupted.
Potential TV in terference: Some cor dless telephones operate at f requencies that may cause interferenc e to televisions and VCRs. To minimize or prevent such interferen ce, do not place the telepho ne base of the cordless telephone near or on to p of a TV or VCR. If interference is exp erienced, moving the cordless teleph one farther away from the TV or VCR often reduce s or eliminates the interference.
Rechargea ble batteries: Exercise c are in handling batterie s in order not to create a short circuit with cond ucting material such as rings , bracelets and keys. The bat tery or conductor may overheat and cause harm. O bserve proper polarity betwe en the battery and the batter y charger.
Nickel-me tal hydride rechargea ble batteries: Di spose of these batteries in a safe
manner. Do not burn or punctur e the battery. Like other batteries of t his type, if burned or punctured, they cou ld release caustic material which could cause i njury.
