Battery installation

Install the battery as shown below.

Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset

battery compartment, matching the color-coded label. Place the battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up and the wires

inside the battery compartment. Align the cover ﬂat against the battery compartment, then slide it towards

the center of the handset until it clicks into place. Charge the handset by placing it in the telephone base or charger. The

CHARGE light is on when the handset is charging.

If the handset will not be used for a long time, disconnect and remove the

• battery to prevent possible leakage.

Battery charging

Once you have installed the battery, the handset LCD display indicates the battery status (see the table below).

For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base or

• charger when not in use.

The battery is fully charged after 16 hours of continuous charging.

• If you place the handset in the telephone base or the charger

• without plugging in the battery, the screen displays No battery.

When it is fully charged, you can expect the following performance:

* Operating times vary depending on your actual use and the age of the battery.

** Handset is not charging or in use.

Battery has no or very little charge. The handset cannot be used.

After you install your telephone or power returns following a power outage, the handset will prompt you to set the date and time. To skip setting the date and time, press OFF/CANCEL or BACK.

Add and register a handset

You can add new handsets (DS6401, purchased separately) to your telephone system, but each handset must be registered with the telephone base before use. When ﬁrst purchased, each expansion handset shows Put handset on BASE to register after a battery is installed. You may need to charge the handset before registering it to the telephone base. For more details on battery charging, see the table on page 3.

To register a handset:

Place the handset in the telephone base. The handset displays Registering handset...

2. on the handset and the red IN USE light on the telephone base turns on. It takes about 90 seconds to complete the registration process. The handset displays HANDSET X Registered (X represents the registered handset number). The IN USE light on the telephone base turns off and you hear a conﬁrmation tone from the handset when registration completes.

If registration fails, the system will automatically try to register again. If registration fails after the third try, the handset displays Registration failed then Put handset on BASE to register and the telephone base beeps. This may take up to ﬁve minutes to occur.

To reset the handset, remove it from the telephone base. When the handset displays Put handset on BASE to register, try the registration process again.

You cannot register a handset if any other system

• handset is in use.

Deregister handsets

If you want to replace a handset or reassign the designated handset number of a registered handset, you must deregister all handsets. Then register each handset you wish to use individually.

To make deregistration easier, read all of the instructions on this page before you begin.

To deregister all handsets:

Make sure that all handsets are out of the

1. telephone base and handset chargers before you begin deregistration.

Press and hold /FIND HANDSET on the

2. telephone base for about 10 seconds until the IN USE light ﬂashes.

Quickly press /FIND HANDSET again. You

3. must press /FIND HANDSET while the IN USE light is still ﬂashing. The IN USE light ﬂashes for about ﬁve seconds. If the light stops ﬂashing, start again with Step 1 above.

4. hear a confirmation tone when deregistration completes. The deregistration process takes about 10 seconds to complete.

If deregistration fails, you may need to reset the telephone and try again.
