Precautions
• For best viewing conditions sit at least 18"
from the ViewPanel.
• AVOID TOUCHING THE SCREEN WITH
YOUR FINGERS. Oils from the skin are
difficult to remove.
• NEVER REMOVE THE REAR COVER. The
ViewPanel contains high-voltage parts. You
may suffer serious injury if you touch these
parts.
• Avoid exposing the ViewPanel to direct
sunlight or another heat source including an
open flame. The ViewPanel should be facing
away from direct sunlight to reduce glare.
• Always handle your ViewPanel with care
when moving it.
• Place your ViewPanel in a well ventilated
area. Do not place anything on the ViewPanel
that prevents adequate dissipation of heat.
• Ensure the area around the ViewPanel is clean
and free of moisture.
• Do not place heavy objects on theViewPanel,
video cable, or power cord.
• If smoke, abnormal noise, or strange odor is
present, immediately switch the ViewPanel
offandcallyourdealerorViewSonic.Itis

Quick Installation
1 Connect video cable
Make sure both the ViewPanel®and
computer are powered OFF.
Connect the VGA analog video cable to the
computer then to the ViewPanel. Both
analog and digital (DVI-D) ports are
available on the back of the ViewPanel for
your convenience. The DVI-D cable
requires a DVI-D video card in your
computer.
Macintosh users: Models older than G3
require a Macintosh adapter. Attach the
adapter to the computer and plug the video
cable into the adapter.

2a Connect power cord
Connect the power cord from the ViewPanel
to a properly grounded AC outlet.
2b Optional - Connect audio cable
Connect the supplied audio cable to the
Audio Out port on your computer sound
card.
3 Power-ON ViewPanel and
computer
Power-ON the ViewPanel, then power-ON
the computer. This sequence (ViewPanel
before computer) is very important.
NOTE: Windows 95, 98 or 2000 users may
receive a message asking them to install the
VP201m/VP201mb INF file.
4 Install display optimization files
(INF and ICM files)
(1) Insert theViewSonic Wizard CD-ROM
into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
NOTE: If your computer does not have a
CD-ROM drive, see Customer Support in
this user guide.
(2) Wait for the CD-ROM to auto-start.
NOTE: If the CD-ROM does not autostart: double-click on the CD-ROM icon in
the Windows Explorer, then double-click
on install.exe.
(3) Follow the on-screen instructions.
5 Windows users: Set the timing
mode (resolution and refresh
rate)
Example: 1600 X 1200 @ 60 Hz.
For instructions on changing the resolution
and refresh rate, see the user guide for your
computer's graphics card.
Installation is complete. Enjoy your new
VP201m/VP201mb ViewPanel.

Landscape/Portrait Modes
The VP201m/VP201mb ViewPanel can operate in either Landscape or Portrait
mode. Follow the instructions that accompany the Perfect Portrait software.
Note: Before using the portrait
display mode, first install the Perfect

software included with

To switch from Landscape (default) to Portrait mode, do the following:
From the front, gently raise the ViewPanel to allow more clearance.

Pull the bottom of the ViewPanel outward and away from the base.

Manually rotate the VP201m/VP201mb clockwise 90 degrees as shown

above.
To Raise and Lower the display
You can easily raise and lower the display panel (the head) manually. As you
face the front of the display, take hold of each side of the head and pull up or
down. The panel should move easily.

Installation of Wall Mount (Optional)
To obtain a wall-mounting kit, contact ViewSonic or your local dealer. Refer to
the instructions that come with the base mounting kit.To convert your
ViewPanel from a desk-mounted to a wall-mounted display, do the following:

a towel or blanket.
Pull the back plate away from the

head of the ViewPanel. Let the
plate hang on the neck of the
ViewPanel as shown on the left.
