5. Overview and use
Refer to the illustrations on page 2 of this manual. Front panel
1 input volume control: turn clockwise to increase the volume of the corresponding source. 2 CHIME switch: press to turn on the chime. The chime function can only be activated if a switch is
connected between the Priority terminals [15]. The audio signals from AUX IN are then muted. 3 SIREN switch: press to turn on siren 4 ECHO control: adjust the output signal echo 5 AUX/CD volume control: turn clockwise to increase the volume of the corresponding source. 6 MASTER control: control main power 7 POWER switch: turn the device on or off. 8 PL LED: turns on when power is switched on [7] 9 Signal LED: gain setting – turn up the channel gain [1] of the corresponding channel until the
signal LED starts flashing.
10 PEAK LED: turns on when a clipping condition occurs. 11 AM/FM + MEDIA PLAYER (only on model PAA02)
See table below for description.
Rear panel
12 AC SELECT: select the applicable input voltage (115V/230V). 13 AC IN: Power cord connection with fuse. Only replace the fuse with a fuse of the same rating. 14 DC 12V/3A: battery terminals. Connect an external 12Vdc battery (not incl.) to keep the amplifier
working during a power outage.
15 PRIORITY: connect a switch (not incl.) b etween these terminals; when pushing this switch, audio
signals from AUX IN are muted.
16 Speaker binding post terminals. As with all speaker wiring, care must be taken to ensure no wires
can present short-circuit to the amplifier. Speaker wires carry high voltages. Therefore, care should
be taken to ensure no bare wires can be touched as this may result in an electric shock.
Refer to illustrations A through I on pages 3 and 4 for possible speaker connection schemes.
17 FM antenna (PAA02 only): connect an FM antenna for FM signal reception 18 AM antenna (PAA02 only): connect an AM antenna fro AM signal reception 19 INPUT JACK (AUX/MIC 2/MIC 1): use these jacks for unba lan ced input signals 20 AUX input: connect a device with a high-level output signal, e.g. AM/FM tuner, CD player... to the
“left” (white) and “right” (red) RCA input connectors. Control the volume with the AUX/CD volume
control [5]. Refer to illustration J on page 4.
21 CD/AUX switch: for low input signals, set to AUX, for high signals e.g. from CD player, set to CD.

6. Troubleshooting
The amplifier stops working.
Turn the volume knobs of both channels to zero, switch off the amplifier and disconnect from the mains. Check the front panel, the fuse and all input and output connections. Replace the fuse with a fuse of the same type and ratings.
No sound when power LED is switched off.
The power supply is not connected or the amplifier has a blown fuse. Check the power connections and switches, or replace the fuse located below the power input.
No sound when power LED is switched on.
No or low input, or faulty speakers. Check if the input is connected and if the LED shows the presence of a signal. Gently increase the volume level and check the speakers and speake r connections.
Hum or buzz.
Power supply noise is picked up in the signal path or earth problem. Only use good quality, shielded signal cables and ensure they are kept away from the power cables and other AC-powered equipment. Use a mains tester to ensure the mains outlet has a good earth.
Distorted sound.
There is an excessive signal level or damaged signal cables . Check the LED to ensure the input level to the amp is at the correct level. Only use good quality, shielded signal cables and protect them from damage.
Sound cuts out.
The signal cables are damaged or the connectors are not properly inserted. Check all cables and connections.
7. Maintenance
Regularly wipe the amplifier with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
Ensure that liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through the ventilation openings.
Contact your HQPower™ dealer if your amplifier needs servicing.
