CHASSIS
A4 series tractors are made with
three different chassis sizes.
A74, A84 and A94 are equipped with Small chassis
and 3 cylinder engines. A104 and A114 are with Medium size
chassis and 4 cylinder engines, and A124 and A134 are with
Large chassis and 4 cylinder engines.
Different chassis sizes are made to ensure that you will
always get a right size tractor for your work.

Valtra A series transmission has
12 + 12 gears in two working ranges.
Having 6 gears in one working range
minimizes the need of two gear lever
changes when working.
Optional Super Creeper available when
the slowest speeds are required down
to 140 m/h* or even to 90 m/h**,
making the transmission 24 + 24 gears
with excellent overlapping over the
gears. See the example of the available
speeds.
In HiTech models you can change the driving
direction without using the clutch pedal. Just use
the power Shuttle lever under the steeting wheel. You
can also use clutch pedal if you prefer.

Before starting the tractor, please make sure that daily
maintenance checks are done. Daily maintenance check
points are:
1.
Check the engine oil from dip stick
Engine oil stick is situated on the right side of the engine.
Make sure that engine oli level is between the lower and upper mark.
If necessary, add oil through the oil ller cap.
2.
Check coolant level
Make sure that the coolant level in the coolant expansion tank is above the
uid level mark for cold uid. Coolant expansion tank is located under the
engine hood
3.
Visual check: tyres, oil leaks, radiators.
Clean front grill & radiators if needed.
4.
Check oil level in the transmission and hydraulic system
The oil level must be between the minimum and maximum lines of the oil
level gage. Gage is located at the rear of the tractor, next to PTO shaft. If
the leakage oil reservoir for the quick couplings is full, remove the oil and
discard it.
5.
Check Fuel and AdBlue levels

STARTING TO DRIVE
1.
Push down the clutch pedal and start the engine.
2.
Select the the speed range (A or B) and suitable gear.
Rememeber to select a gear low enough to manage the
start.
3.
If you start to drive on a slope, push down the brake
pedals to keep the tractor stopped.
4.
Move the power shuttle lever to the forward or reverse
position.
5.
Release the clutch pedal.
6.
Adjust the driving speed with the accelerator pedal and
change gears when necessary (see next page)

Creeper gear.
Lever (A74-A94) in lower position equals creeper ON. In A104A134 use the rocker switch. Tortoise down means creeper ON.
Always use clutch pedal and stop the tractor before
engaging / disengaging the creeper.
CHANGING THE GEARS
In A4 series tractor you have 6 main gears and 2 range
gears. Optionally you can have also super creeper gears
which are used for very low speeds.

In HiTech models you don’t need to press the
clutch pedal while chancing gears. You can
use the HiShift clutch button in main gear
lever instead.
Easy shuttling with HiTech Power Shuttle lever.
No need for clutch.
HITECH
Tip You can adjust sensitivity the power shuttle
with the adjustment knob for engaging speed
on the dashboard. This feature will adjusts
the smoothness of direction changes.

AutoTraction is a standard option with A4 HiTech models.
AutoTraction minimizes the use of Clutch pedal as you can
stop the tractor only by using the brakes.
AutoTraction is always active.
AutoTraction disengages the clutch if:
• both brake pedals are pressed
• the driving speed is less than 20 km/h
• the accelator pedal and clutch pedal have not been pressed
• the power shuttle lever is towards the same direction as the current driving direction
When you raise the brake pedals again, the traction will be re-engaged. So you can
do stop-and-go work without using clutch pedal. Note that you just need to have a
low-enough gear selected to make restarting possible.

With the engine speed memory you can easily use
a certain engine speed for example in PTO-use. You can
control the engine speed memory with the
button on the right side panel.
Setting and using engine RPM memory
1.
Choose required engine RPM with accelator pedal or hand throttle
2.
Press the engine RPM memory button for 3 seconds
You will hear a sound and a symbol in instrument panel will light up.
3.
Turn the RPM memory on and off by pressing the
engine RPM memory button for 1 second

In A4 series tractors you have an open centre hydraulics with
up to three auxiliary valves. The maximum hydraulic ow
is 65 l/min in models A74-A94 and 98 l/min in models
A104-A134.
1.
Valves can be locked easily
- for constant ow or in neutral.
2.
Additionally you can select an option of two
electronically controlled valves for front loader.
3.
In models A104-A134 you get the maximum ow up to 98 l/min
by combining the ow of two pumps by a rocker switch in B-pillar.
Tip the tractor can be completed with a ow control valve. This valve will be controller
from the rear and it regulates the amount of oil available from the brown valve.
The remaining oil ow can be used at same time to power lift or other services.
With this device you can adjust the speed of a hydraulic motor or/and use
two functions simultanously. See number 2 in page “rear controls”.

A series tractor can be equipped with 2 speed PTO (all models)
or with 3 speed PTO (A 104-A134) according what is specied.
The PTO speed can be read always on the performance
monitor.
1.
Rear PTO is turned on and off via rocker switch in right console.
2.
In A74 – A94 speed selection is done with external control lever
and electrically from right console in bigger models.
3.
In A104 - A134 the speed selection is done electrically from right side panel.
PTO SWITCH USE IN VALTRA A SERIES MODELS
• PTO Engaged – Push yellow lock button in front of switch.
• Disengaged – Neutral middle Position: power is cut but PTO shaft
free to rotate. Use this for machine run down and
implement attachment
• PTO Braked – Switch moved to rear. This position prevents PTO shaft rotation.
NOTE: PTO brake is not to be used to stop implement rotation!

Push down the clutch pedal and start the engine.

Select the right PTO speed from
right hand console (A104-A134) or external lever (A74-A94).
3.
Turn on PTO with a switch on right console
4.
Set the speed you need with hand trottle or accelerator pedal,
PTO speed can be read in instrument panel.
5.
Save engine revs into engine RPM memory
6.
Set hand throttle to minimum (a Tip below)
7.
Select the right gear and start working
Tip You can control your engine revs between idle and
working just with RPM memory button since you have set it.

FRONT LOADER

WITH ELECTRONIC CONTROLS
1.
Push down the clutch pedal and start the engine.
2.
Switch on the front loader (safety switch on side pillar)
3.
Switch on the SoftDrive if needed
4.
Combine the hydraulic ow from two pumps
to increase the hydraulic ow
Tip To attatch and release implements, use hydraulic implement lock.
Push the rocker switch on B pillar and at the same time upper button
in joystick and move it to left or right.
Tip Remember the AutoTraction and power shuttle start features and
minimise your clutch pedal use.
Tip If you need long time oating position, e.g. in snow plowing, use
FL1. If you need only short times oat position, switch FL2 on. Then
you can engage oat with joystick’s lower button and disengage with
upper button.

TIPS FOR DRIVING VALTRA A4
HiShift – Changing gears without a clutch pedal. With A4
HiTech models you can change the gears without having to
press the clutch pedal. Simply press the HiShift button on gear
lever when changing the gears. No need for moving your leg!
Standard Auto-Traction - a feature that revolutionised the
tractor driving. With A4 tractor you need the clutch pedal only
when starting the engine.
Otherwise you need only brakes and drive pedal for controlling
the tractor. The drive is declutched simply by pressing the
brakes and clutched again by releasing them. The most
intuitive and easy way to drive a tractor in the
market!
Hydraulic ow as needed – A104-A134 is tted with double
hydraulic pump. Whenever you need more hydraulic ow
for implement operation or for front loader, just combine
the hydraulic ows from both pumps simply with a click of a
switch.
