W h a t Y o u N e e d B e f o r e Y o u B e g i n
You will ne ed a ctive ADSL and Internet se rvice from yo ur local tele pho ne compa ny or Internet Se rvice Provide r (ISP) be fore you try to g o on the Internet. You may also need the follo wing from yo ur ISP:
VPI/VCI va lues
ADSL stand ard (mo dula tion)
Encapsulation mo de
Authentication (PAP or CHAP) for PPP co nnec tions
Your user name a nd pa ssword, if they were assig ned b y y our ISP.
S t e p 1 . C o n n e c t M i c r o f i l t e r ( i f i n c l u d e d o r r e q u i r e d b y y o u r I S P )
A microfilter remo ve s interference betwee n vo ice a nd DSL sig nals . Your ISP will de termine if a microfilter is nece ss ary. If a mic rofilter was not included with the ga teway, you may want to as k your ISP if yo u need to p urchase one o r more o f them.

To install a microfilter, p lug ea ch d evice (phone, fax ma chine , o r other telephony d ev ice ) into the microfilter, and then plug the microfilter into the telep hone wall jack. Do not ins tall a microfilter o n the cable that co nnects yo ur ADSL g ateway to the telephone ja ck unless your microfilter has a co nnection for b oth the gateway and the phone.
S t e p 2 . C o n n e c t t h e A n t e n n a a n d C a b l e s
To configure the ga teway, you will initially use the sup plied ye llo w Ethernet cable to connect it to the co mp uter. You can set up a wirele ss co nnection later in the installa tion p roc es s, once the ga teway is co mmunicating with the Internet.

To mak e the nee ded connec tions, follo w these s teps:
A. Attach the antenna to the back o f the gatewa y.
B. Connect one end o f the telep hone ca ble to the telep hone port on the back o f yo ur ga teway (labe led ADSL) . Connec t the other end to the tele pho ne wall jack.
C. Connect the yellow Ethernet cab le. Although you ca n co nnec t up to four sy stems this wa y, you should co nnec t ad ditional de vices only a fter the initial se tup is complete. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the po rts on the back o f the gatewa y (labele d 1, 2, 3, and 4 ) . Connec t the other end to the Ethernet po rt on your computer’s network interface card.
D. Plug the AC power ad apter into the 9 VDC jac k o n the back of your g ateway. The n plug the AC p ower ada pter into a standard wall o utlet. If the LED o n the front pa nel is no t lighted, pre ss the p owe r switch o n the b ack of the gateway.
Not e: This pro duct is intend ed to be s upp lied by a UL Listed Direct Plug- in Power Unit ma rked Class 2 a nd rated 9V DC, 1200 mA.
The g ateway starts up after y ou turn on the power. This may take one to two minutes.
E. On the front panel, see if the and a ny o f the indicators LEDs are lig hted. If they are not, s ee the tro ub lesho o t ing se ct ion.

1. Insert the U.S. Robotics installation CD- ROM into your computer’s CD- ROM drive. T he installa tion should start automa tically. This pro ce ss may take a few moments.
If the installation doe s not start automatically, yo u ca n start it manually.
Windows Vist a users: Click St art , then Co mp ut er and browse to y our CD- ROM drive. O pen the set up .e xe file o n the CD- ROM.
Windows users: Click St a rt a nd then Run, then typ e D:\s et up .exe in the dialo gue b ox a nd click O K. (If your CD drive use s a d ifferent letter, type that le tter in
pla ce o f D.)

Linux users: Ope n the CD- ROM, browse to \p lat f o rms \li nux, and d ouble - click on inst all.b in.
2. Select your preferred lang uag e and click O K.
3. If yo u are using Wind ows, the installe r runs a qualifica tion test to v erify that your s ystem me ets the minimum req uirements for installa tion. When d one, a Result s scre en displa ys green flags ne xt to sys tem c ompo nents that me et requirements and red flags nex t to a ny that d o not. If your sy stem passes the qualificatio n, click Next . If any o f yo ur system compo nents do not mee t the req uireme nts, click View Re p ort to ide ntify them.
Setup now ins talls the EasyConfigurator.

If yo ur co untry or ISP do es not appe ar in the lis t, se lect Ot her and manually enter the se ttings p rov ide d by your ISP.
You ma y ne ed to enter your ISP- sup plied use r name and pass word after ma king y our sele ctions. Click Apply to continue.
3. EasyConfigurator no w co nfigures yo ur gateway b ased o n your ISP selection or manually- entere d settings.
At this point, the system attempts to a cc es s the Internet. This may take a few minutes, until the follo wing status p age app ea rs.

If the s tatus is CO NNECT ED T O THE INT ERNET, you have successfully co nfigured your Internet co nnection. If it does no t say CO NNECT ED T O THE INTERNET , go to the T roubles hoo ting section of this installation guid e.
S t e p 5 . S e t U p t h e W i r e l e s s C o n f i g u r a t i o n
In wireles s c ommunications, de vic es communicate with each o ther via radio waves rather than ca bles . The g ateway can co mmunica te wireles sly with any de vic e that has a wireless network ad ap ter that me ets wirele ss networking s tanda rds .
To set up wireless communications, click St at us at the top of the EasyCo nfigurator s creen (if it is not a lrea dy o pe n). T hen click C onf ig ure Wire less . Log in if the software as ks yo u to (use a d min as the user na me and p asswo rd). This ope ns your We b browser to a pa ge for se tting up security on your wireless network. U.S. Robotics strong ly reco mme nds that yo u secure your network as d irected on this pa ge.

You ca n use the ga teway ’s Web use r interface (WUI) to enable o r disable wireless communications a nd to se t the ne twork name, broadcast status, a nd se curity op tions. T he Web use r interface is the main tool for configuring and using the ga teway. Click here to find out how to run the WUI.
