Safety Information

Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills and tools to perform these functions properly.
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.
Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on this product, until you have read and understood the operation, lubrication, maintenance and repair information.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the “Safety Alert Symbol” and followed by a “Signal Word” such as “DANGER”, “WARNING” or “CAUTION”. The Safety Alert “WARNING” label is shown below.
WARNING — This alert warns of a potential hazard which, if not avoided, can cause severe
injury.
The meaning of this safety alert symbol is as follows:
Attention! Become Alert! Your Safety is Involved.
The message that appears under the warning explains the hazard and can be either written or pictorially presented.
Operations that may cause product damage are identified by “NOTICE” labels on the product and in this publication.
Trimble® cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. The warnings in this publication and on the product are, therefore, not all inclusive. If a tool, procedure, work method or operating technique that is notspecifically recommended by Trimble is used, you must satisfy yourself that it is safe for you and for others. You should also ensure that the product will not be damaged or be made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair procedures that you choose.
The information, specifications, and illustrations in this publication are on the basis of information that was available at the time that the publication was written. The specifications, torques, pressures, measurements, adjustments, illustrations, and other items can change at any time. These changes can affect the service that is

given to the product. Obtain the complete and most current information before you start any job. SITECH dealers have the most current information available.
WARNING — When replacement parts are required for this product Trimble recommends
using Trimble replacement parts or parts with equivalent specifications including, but not limited to, physical dimensions, type, strength and material. Failure to heed this warning can lead to premature failures, product damage, personal injury or death.
CAUTION – Exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy is an important safety consideration. The FCC has adopted a safety standard for human exposure to RF electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC-regulated equipment as a result of its actions in General Docket 79-144 on March 13, 1986. Proper use of this radio results in exposure below government limits. Trimble recommends the following precautions:
l Do not operate the transmitter when someone is within 20 cm (7.8 inches) of
the antenna.
l Do not operate the transmitter unless all RF connectors are secure and any
open connectors are properly terminated.
l Do not operate the transmitter near electrical blasting caps or in an explosive
atmosphere.
l Do not co-locate the antenna with any other transmitting device.

This chapter provides an overview of the Trimble® SNR43x Radio Modem.
SNR43xUser Guide 9
1 Introduction

1.1 Overview

The SNR43x Radio Modem is designed for on-machine communications. It is ideal for use in machine guidance and precision grade control applications in construction or mining environments. It is used within the following applications:
l Trimble® GCS900 Grade Control System
l Trimble CCS900 Compaction Control System
l Trimble PCS900 Paving Control System
In this user guide, any reference to 'the system' refers collectively to all of the systems listed above.
Because the SNR43x Radio Modem is intended to be used within a system, the documentation for the SNR43x Radio Modem has been written as part of the system manual set. Each of the systems contain the following manuals:
l Operator's manual
l Site Supervisor's manual
l Reference manual
l Installation manual
To avoid repetition of this information, references are made to these manuals throughout the user guide.

1.2 Function

Both the SNR430 and SNR434 radio modems belong to the family of SNRx3x products which are available in the 220, 450, 900 and 2400 MHz bands. These products share a common housing and electrical interface, to simplify machine installation and integration.
The 430 MHz band radio modules receive GNSS correction data from a reference receiver, for precise machine positioning.
For information on the GNSS correction data format, refer to the:
Hardware Installation manual
