Case History
AireShareTMventilators enhance performance and comfort of split system air handlers
Harbor View Windows, Heating and Air, Inc., based in Brookings, Oregon, has installed ductless split system heating/cooling for years and is a top producing dealer. Ductless systems offer high-energy savings, but can also have comfort challenges if an air handler is not installed in each room. Rooms without air handlers are subject to being too hot or cold. On a recent multi-family project using ductless systems, Harbor View was able to overcome this problem by installing an average of two AireShare room-to-room ventilators per five-room townhouse. The ventilators, made by Tjernlund Products, effectively distribute conditioned air to rooms without air handlers.
“We thought it might be a great solution to a long term problem…to flip a switch and be able to draw air conditioned or heated air out of the main rooms into the small rooms and it’s working perfectly,” said Pat and Sherry Nied, Harbor View’s owners.
The Nieds believe a cost-effective way has finally been found to make ductless systems deliver comfort in a wide range of residential applications. “We think AireShare son with the ductless system, fills a gap that has persisted.”

Quick Comfort Calculation:
Multiply the Length x Width x Height of uncomfortable room (in feet) and then divide by 75 to determine the number of minutes needed to bring the uncomfortable room to nearly the same air temperature as adjacent room.
Example: 15 ft x 15 ft x 8 ft = 1800 Cubic. Ft ÷ 75 = 24 minutes
Uncomfortable room dimensions:
L_________ x W_________ x H_________ ÷ 75 = _______minutes
This calculation relates to air temperature and makes certain basic assumptions. It is recommended that the AireShare be operated for an extended period so that objects within the room such as walls and furnishings also equal the air temperature.
