Product Software CD Version 2.5
(CSA8000 and TDS8000 Series Instruments)
This CD contains the files needed to install, reinstall, or upgrade your instrument’s
product software, application software, and online help files. Product Software
Version 2.x (and above) is designed to be installed on instruments running the
Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.
NOTE. You can perform the installation procedures using either the
touchscreen or a mouse.
NOTE. If you are using this CD to update your current installation of
software and applications, verify that your current installation is older
than the version contained on this CD. To determine the current version
of product software on your instrument, select About in the Help menu.
Software Installation
NOTE. If you are upgrading the product software from version 1.X, you
must first upgrade your instrument to the Windows 2000 operating
system. Contact Tektronix or visit the Tektr onix Web site for instrument
upgrade information.
Tektr onix provides new software releases for the CSA8000 and TDS8000
instruments on a frequent basis. Visit the Tektronix W eb site to check for
newer software releases before installing the included software.

Product Software CD
1. If you are rebuilding the entire contents of the hard drive, you must restore the
Windows operating system before using this CD. Use the Windows 2000Operating System Restore CD (063-3705-XX) that shipped with the
instrument before proceeding to step 2.
2. Turn on the instrument and wait for Microsoft Windows to start.
3. Insert the Product Software CD into the CD drive on the rear panel of the
instrument. The installation program starts after about 15 to 30 seconds.

NOTE. If the installation program does not start, open My Computer and
double click the CD drive. The InstallShield Wizard should start
automatically. If it does not, browse the CD and double click the
Setup.exe file to start the InstallShield program.
4. The install menu presents you with four choices:
a. Install Software requires that you select the software you want to install.
H TDS/CSA8000 Application and TekVISA Analysis and Connectivity
Software installs the instrument firmware and the TekVISA software.
TekVISA allows third party software applications to communicate with
the instrument application. This selection is available only for installing
on the instrument.
H Tektr onix Oscilloscope Analysis and Connectivity Software installs the
TekVISA software. This selection is available for both the instrument
and a PC.
H Tektr onix VXI Plug & Play Instrument Driver is the VXI Plug and Play
standard instrument driver for CSA8000 and TDS8000 series instruments. This selection is available for both the instrument and a PC.
H 80SJNB Application is the Advanced Jitter, Noise, and BER Analysis
Software for the CSA/TDS8000 series instruments. This software requires the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system and a minimum of

512 MB of instrument RAM. See page 5 for more information about
the 80SJNB software. This selection is available only for installing on
the instrument.
b. Browse CD-ROM opens an explorer window to view the CD-ROM
contents.
c. Product Update takes you to the Tektronix Web site for instrument
upgrades. This requires an internet connection.
d. Exit Menu closes the installer window.
5. Click the software you want to install.
6. Follow the instructions given by each install program. If any version of the
selected software is currently installed, it will be uninstalled. If asked to remove
shared files, select Yes.
7. If prompted to restart the instrument, select Yes. The instrument begins the
software installation after the restart.
8. To install remaining programs, either:
H Eject and reinsert the Product Software CD into the CD drive to start the
InstallShield.
H Browse the CD and double click the Setup.exe file to start the InstallShield.

Analysis and Connectivity Software
After installation of the Analysis and Connectivity Software, be sure to read the
Oscilloscope Analysis and Connectivity Made Easy document and check out the
powerful new features. You can also access On-line help files and a Quick Reference Guide in the Start > Programs > TekVISA folder.
Y ou may also want to install the analysis and connectivity software on your
personal computer, especially if you plan to control your instrument with a
Microsoft Windows-compatible computer. Refer to the TekVISA Readme file for
installation instructions located on the Product Software CD.
To access the Readme file on the Product Software CD:
1. Open My Computer either through Windows Explorer or My Computer.
2. Open the CD-ROM drive icon to browse its contents. Open the TekVISA
folder and open the file Readme.html and read the TekVISA installation
instructions.
80SJNB Software
The 80SJNB software can be installed on any instrument running the
Windows 2000 operating system and has at least 512 MB of memory installed.
The software requires a software key (purchased separately) to unlock the software
for unlimited use. Without the key, the software provides seven free trials. Once
the trials are used, the software will no longer start.
