+ Acoustic Glass Break) Detector

Operation Manual

The present operation manual is intended for studying
operation principle, running conditions, storage and technical
maintenance of dual channel detector Astra-621 (hereinafter
“detector”).
The manufacturer reserves the right to make alteration
regarding refinement of the product without prior notification.
All changes will be imported into new edition of the operation
manual.

1 Function

1.1 The detector is intended for:

- detection of unauthorized access into an
enclosed area, and generation of an alarm
notification by opening contacts of
dedicated alarm relay;

- detection of glass breaking of glazed
constructions of an enclosed area, and
generation of an alarm notification by
opening contacts of dedicated alarm relay.
Types of protected glass:

- conventional and protected by a polymer
film, thickness from 2.5 mm to 8 mm;

- armored glass, thickness 5.5 mm and 6
mm;

- figure glass, thickness from 4 mm to 7 mm;

- tempered glass, thickness from 4 mm to 6 mm.
Size of glass: area of at least 0.1 m2 (with one side of at least

0.3 m length).

1.2 Power supply of detector is performed from any direct

current source with nominal voltage 12V and pulsation
amplitude not exceeding 0,1V

2 Principle of Operation

2.1 Both IR and Acoustic (AC) detection channels are

activated independently and processed by two separate relay
outputs.

2.2 Operation principle of IR channel is based on registration

of thermal background change of the room occurring on
crossing sensitive zones by a man (Figure 2). Detector
sensitive zones are formed by Fresnel lens and bi-areal
pyroelectric radiation receiver. Pyroelectric receiver sends
electric signal to microcontroller, which in its turn generates an
“Alarm-IR” notification by opening of output circuit of
optoelectronic relay in accordance with pre-set algorithm.

2.3 Sensitive element of AC channel is an electret

microphone with integrated amplifier. Trasmitter modifies
acoustic vibrations into electric signals which are amplified and
sent to microcontroller. Microcontroller processes received
signal and in accordance with preset algorithm takes decision
about presence of glass breakage or low-frequency and high­frequency interference and generates corresponding
notification.

2.4 To connect the detector to an alarm loop (hardwired

zone) optic-electronic signaling relays are used.

5 Structure

Detector is designed as a unit consisting of a base and a
removable cover (figure 3). Installed inside the base is a
printed circuit board with radio elements and screw terminals
for wire connections

Installed on the board is a spring-type button (tamper switch),
which generates alarm notification at removing the cover by
opening TMP circuit contacts regardless of detector powering.
Installed on the board is a LED indicator intended for detector
operability check.
Fastened on the inside of the cover is a latch fixing the lens.
The pyroelectric sensor is equipped with a cap and a reflector
that form the short-range detection zone.
ATTENTION! DON’T OPERATE THE DETECTOR
WITHOUT THE CAP.

 The “Alarm memory” mode allows registering the
protected zone violation in both PIR-channel and GB-channel
by constant repeating alarm notification in 0,4s on LED until
power supply is switched off.The mode is set by jumpering of
the Mem plug.

“Alarm-IR” notification is displayed by LED in 1 min. after zone
violation, “Alarm-AC” – right after zone violation. Reset of LED

indication and the mode occurs at switching power off.
 "AC test" mode allows switching IR channel off for 8 min
and testing AC channel. On expiry of 8 min the detector
switches to stand-by mode automatically.

8 Installation and Pre-Starting Procedure

8.1 Works on installation, mounting, maintenance and

operation of detector should be performed by qualified persons
only.

8.2 After transportation in conditions differing from those of

operation keep detector unpacked under supposed operation
conditions for at least 4 hours.

8.3 Installation place

8.3.1 Recommended installation height is about (2.4±0.1) m.

Detector’s design allows its installation both on a wall and on a
ceiling.

8.3.2 Installation place should avoid exposure to sunlight.

8.3.3 Installation above a high-powered source of heat is not
allowed.

8.3.4 Avoid installation in presence of objects with rapidly

changing temperature (heating, radiators, air conditioners,
stoves, chimneys, etc.).

8.3.5 Wires of signaling zones and power supply circuits
should be located far from power cables.

8.3.6 It is not allowed to use the detector within a room with

high level acoustic interference (notifications “High-frequency
interference” or “Low-frequency interference” show the high

level of interference).

8.3.7 It is required to close all doors, air-vents, to switch off
fans, air-conditioners, wire-broadcast net loudspeakers and
other possible sources of intense air flows and acoustic
interferences in the room during protection period.

8.3.8 All parts of the protected glass must be within direct
visibility by the detector (within a sector of 1200).

8.3.9 The distance from the detector to the most distant point
of the protected glass surface should not exceed 6 m.

8.3.10 While installing the detector one should take into
account that in case of presence of such obstacles as curtains,
screens, large-scale objects, furniture, plants, etc. within
detection zone, non-sensitive zones (“blind zones”) behind
those obstacles are appeared, so that the detector may fail to
detect man moving through such zones.

8.3.11 Installation options (Figure 4):

8.4 Installation procedure

Step-1

Push out cover lock from base slot.
Remove the cover.

Step-2

Unbend hooks of the
base. Remove PCB.

Step-3

Squeeze out plugs from wire entry
holes. Make markings on installation
wall surface by applying the base at
an appropriate height.

Step-4

You may install the detector using a
bracket.

Note – Bracket is supplied
separately

Step-5

Lead wires from power supply
source and signaling zone (alarm
loop) through wire insertion hole on
the base.

Fix the base on the wall.

Step-6

Re-install the PCB by aligning the slots of
it with the guide tabs of the base. Push
the PCB until it stops (click)

Step-7

Fix the wires in appropriate screw terminals.

Step-8 Remove jumpers from Mem and
GB plugs (normal sensitivity of AC channel)

Step-9

Power up the detector and activate
"AC test" mode by shortly closing

Re-install the cover (until a click).

Step-11

Test AC channel by striking (non-destructive) the most distant

part of the protected glass:

1) place the probation steel ball with a diameter of 21-22 mm

and weight of 32-48 g suspended on a thread of 35 cm length
directly at the piece of glass, but not touching it;

2) without changing the point of suspension, deflect the ball

vertically in the plane perpendicular to the plane of the glass,
without sagging, at an angle of 3070 (Table 3) and release.
While blowing the investigator must not obstruct the detector

3) you may consider the detector as fine tuned if after the

blow the notification "High frequency interference" or "Alarm­AC" is issued by the detector;

4) if notification "High frequency interference" or "Alarm-AC" is

not issued by the detector after the test blow, sensitivity of the
detector should be increased by jumpering GB plug.

Attention! If necessary to test the detector operability at real
glass break, the glass must be necessarily fixed in the frame!

Breaking of not fixed piece of glass or a bottle doesn’t

guarantee issuing the «alarm» notification, as the detector is

designed and tuned for detection of breaking of a piece of
glass fixed in a frame or a wall!

Step-12

After the AC test is completed (on
expiry of 8 min), carry out IR
channel test. Simulate violator’s

moving through detection zone with
a speed of 0,3 m/s and 3 m/s. Make
sure the "Alarm - IR" notification is
issued with each pass.

Step-13

Remove detector’s cover. Install jumper on the Mem plug
depending on selected protection mode on-site.

Step-14

Re-install the cover

8.4 To provide fail-safe operation of the alarm system it is

recommended to carry out testing and maintenance of the
detector as follows:

- IR test (at least once per month):
Move across detection zone; make sure the "Alarm-IR"
notification is issued on the control panel and processed by
LED.

- AC test (at least once per 6 months):
Set AC test mode and check detector’s operability following
the instructions of p.8.4.

- Maintenance (at least once per 6 months):

inspect integrity of the detector’s body, reliability of wire

connections, detector fixation; clean detector from
contamination.

9 Labeling

On the label, pasted to the case, are specified:

– manufacturer’s trademark
– abbreviated name of the detector
– firmware version
– date of manufacture (year and month (last two digits)
– conformity mark (if certificate is available)

– bar code duplicating the textual information

10 EC Conformity Declarations

This product is in conformity with the provisions of:
EMC 89/336/EEC;
EN 61000-6-3:2005 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-3:
Generic standards - Emission standard for residential, commercial and
light-industrial environments;
EN 50130-4/1995 + A1:1998 + A2:2003 + Corrig. 2003 Alarm systems

- Part 4: Electromagnetic compatibility - Product family standard:
Immunity requirements for components of fire, intruder and social
alarm systems;
EN 60950-1: 2001+A11:2004+Corrig.2004 Safety of information
technology equipment.

11 Recycling

Detector is not dangerous for life and health of people and is safe for
environment, after termination of service life it should be recycled
without special environment protective measures.

12 Warranty

12.1 Quality Management System meets provisions of ISO 9001-

2011.

12.2 The manufacturer guarantees compliance of the alerter with the
technical requirements provided the customer observes the standards
of operation, transportation, storage and installation of the device

12.3 The storage warranty time is 5 years and 6 months from the date
of manufacturing.

12.4 The operation warranty time is 5 years from the date of operation
startup but no longer than 5 years 6 months from the date of
manufacturing.

12.5 The manufacturer commits to replace or repair the product
during the warranty period.

12.6 The warranty does not come into effect in following cases:

- operation manual is missing;

- mechanical damage of the product;

- repair of the detector by any other party except the manufacturer.

12.7 This warranty applies to the notificator only, not to equipment of
third part manufacturers used with the detector jointly.

The manufacturer bears no responsibility for death, injury,
damage of property or any other kinds of accidental or
premeditated damages, based on user’s statement that device
failed to implement its function.
