TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Action
Dispenser does not turn on (backlit area not lit and no display in LCD)
Follow through the steps described below to isolate the issue. Repair defect or replace parts as required.
1. Check to ensure that the wall outlet is functioning.
2. Check that all external power cords are completely and securely connected at all points.
3. Verify that the retaining nut on the power feed-through on the back of the unit is fully installed. (If the nut has backed off it may prevent full connector engagement.)
4. Check that the door cable is completely and securely connected by opening the door and pulling gently on the wire at the bottom of the door.
Note: Do not put weight or place objects onto the opened door.
5. Verify supply functionality - remove the power cord jack from the back of the unit and verify that there is 12 VDC coming from the power supply by probing the connector jack. If 12 VDC present, re-connect to machine.
6. Verify main internal power cable connections - remove a pump at the rear of the unit and measure the voltage across the test points on the rear end of the pump connector PCB (dogbone PCB) as shown below and confirm that there is 12 VDC across them. If there is no voltage go to step 7. If there is voltage go to step 8.
7. Partially remove drawer assembly (see Drawer Assemblysection on page 11) and ensure that the power cable connection at the power entry PCB at the rear of the machine to the drawer is fully connected on both ends and that the door connector is fully connected.
8. Verify power at door connector – open door, remove door connector and confirm that voltage across pins 1 (or 2) and 4 (or 5) is 12 VDC (see diagram on the next page). If there is power on the cable connector but

the door does not function when properly connected, then the door may require replacement.
Note: attachments to multi-meter probes may be required to access connector contacts.
Dispenser Resets intermittently (goes through power-up sequence)
Intermittently resetting of unit is usually an indication of a faulty connection somewhere between the power supply and the control PCB. To find the fault:
1. Check all connections in line with door power (see “Dispenser does not turn on” troubleshooting section above) and verify that they are completely and securely connected. Repair or replace any defective parts as appropriate.
2. If all connections are secure and symptoms re-cur without any connections being compromised then the issue is likely to be either a faulty power supply or an intermittent connection on the PCB in the door.
3. If possible, replace the power supply with one that is known to function properly and verify that intermittency disappears. If it is still present then the intermittency is likely in the door and it may need replacement (see Page 14).
Pump Vibrates during dispense
If a pump vibrates excessively during operation the screws that fit into the keyhole may be loose. To repair:
1. Remove pump.
2. Tighten screws on the back of the pump very slightly to reduce the screw head clearance (see Figure 9 on Page 12).
3. Replace the pump and dispense to verify correction.
4. Repeat if required.
Backlit Area is lit but LCD display is blank
1. Reset the unit by unplugging and re-connecting power. If LCD is still blank continue to next step – if ok then a part of volatile memory in the program may have become corrupted and resetting the unit has corrected the issue.
2. If the problem persists check to see if the pumps are operating by priming and/or dispensing from at least one. If the pumps operate normally, then a part of non-volatile memory or the LCD may be corrupted.
3. If the pumps operate normally, re-program the unit using a FOB and verify that the issue has been corrected (see Page 26).
4. If the problem is still not corrected then the issue is likely to be a defective PCB (which includes the LCD) and the door may have to be replaced (See Page 14).
Button panel locks up or functions erratically
1. Reset the unit by unplugging and re-connecting power. If problem persists then continue to next step.
2. Verify through “Program Mode” (if possible) that: a. all selected buttons are active (LED should be lit) for all active
buttons in “Buttons” page. Correct as required.

b. the dispense amount is correct (and not zero) in “Target Adj” page.
Correct as required.
3. If this is not the issue and the problem persists the unit should be reprogrammed using a FOB (see page 26).
4. If the problem is still not corrected then the issue is a likely to be a defective PCB and the door may have to be replaced (see page 14).
Dispenser does not dispense flavor from a particular pump
1. Ensure that unit is set up correctly: a. Unit is properly installed including power connections (LCD is lit). b. Product selections made correctly – including ‘dispense’ pressed. c. Cartridge properly installed, primed (with piston in contact with
cartridge plunger) and not empty.
d. Delivery tube extends below the dispense block.
2. If “Not Available” message appears in the LCD when trying to dispense, refer to “Not Available” section in trouble-shooting guide.
When attempting to dispense: If the pump motor strains but nothing comes out:
3. Verify that tube end has been cut off (above the heat seal).
4. Verify that product delivery tubes not kinked, pinched or otherwise blocked.
5. Remove cartridge and verify that pump activates and the plunger tip does not rotate during dispense. If plunger tip does rotate then the anti-rotation nut is damaged or missing and the pump must be replaced (see Page
12). If tip does not rotate continue to next step.
6. Ensure that the piston moves with other functions such as prime or
retract (see owner’s manual). If there is no movement either way then the
drive system may be damaged and a new pump may be required (see Page 12 for pump replacement).
If the pump motor appears to be operating normally but nothing comes out:
7. Examine the piston during a dispense cycle. If it rotates while the motor is running then the anti-rotation nut or other critical pump component is broken and the pump must be replaced.
If there is no indication that the pump is working at all:
8. Reset the unit by unplugging and re-connecting power. Try to dispense again – if it doesn’t work continue to next step – if it works properly then a part of the program may have become corrupted and resetting the unit has corrected the issue.
9. Verify that other pumps function correctly. If no other pumps function or pumps on just one side or the other function then the fault likely resides in the dogbone interconnect PCB and it will need examination, repair or replacement (See page 24).
10. Verify through “Program Mode” that: a. all required buttons are active (LED should be lit) for all active
buttons in “Buttons” page. If any required buttons are inactive then activate as appropriate.
b. the dispense amount is correct (and not zero) in “Target Adj” page.
Correct targets as required.
11. Try switching the pump in question with one that has been confirmed to function correctly (see Page 12). If replacement pump works then the issue resides with the pump and the defective one must be replaced. This can be further confirmed by trying the defective pump in a location that is known to function correctly.
12. If the issue is not in the pump then the issue likely resides in the dogbone and it may need to be replaced (see Page 21).

Dispense amounts are incorrect
1. Check that the flavor cartridge is securely positioned on the pump and primed.
2. Ensure the product delivery tubes are not twisted, kinked, pinched off or blocked.
3. Ensure dispense block is clean and tube protrudes below the dispense block and that heat sealed end is cut off.
4. Ensure that there are no signs of leakage. If leakage is found correct as required (see “Dispenser is leaking flavor” section above).
5. Ensure that the dispense target amount is set correctly. (Go into “Program Mode – Target Adj.” page (See page 27) and check amount shown. If incorrect then adjust accordingly.
Dispenser is leaking flavor
1. Open the dispenser and check all flavor cartridges for obvious signs of leakage.
2. If no obvious signs are found: a. Check that all flavor cartridges are loaded correctly (fully engaged
and locked in pump, tubes routed correctly, tubes fully inserted into
the dispense block). b. Check to see if any delivery tubes are damaged. c. Verify that the dispense block area is clean and that the flavor tubes
all protrude from the bottom of the dispense block.
3. Clean all signs of spill anywhere it is accessible. Cleaning the top of the pump where cartridges are installed is particularly important as the flavor is slippery and may prevent replacement cartridge(s) from locking into pump securely.
4. Replace any leaking cartridges in accordance with the Operations Manual.
5. If no leaking cartridges are found then it is likely that the leakage came from a cartridge that has already been replaced and no further action is necessary.
Not Available” message appears on the LCD when attempting to dispense
This is an error message that occurs when there is a failed communication between the main controller in the door and the selected flavor pump. For the following trouble-shooting process remove flavor cartridge(s) as convenient.
1. Determine whether the error is systemic or isolated to a single pump by dispensing from another pump - try dispensing from all pumps or until at least one is found to function correctly.
If any other pumps function correctly:
2. Remove the suspect pump, clean the dogbone contacts and pump connector contacts as thoroughly as possible. Replace pump and try dispensing again.
3. Confirm that power LED is on’ in pump (through pump body – see page 12 for LED location and description). If LED is not visible then the pump is likely defective and may need to be replaced.
4. If the power LED is visible and the message persists then it is possible that the driver software in the pump is corrupted. To correct this, re-load the driver code from the door and try dispensing again (see page 28 for Driver Download instructions).
5. If the error message persists then swap the suspect pump with one in a location that has been confirmed to work correctly. If the error message has changed to the new position then the fault is with the pump and the pump may need to be replaced. If the fault remains at the original location then the fault is likely with the dogbone connector itself and the dogbone may need to be replaced (see page 21).
ACFC-10 FlavorShot SureShot Technical Assistance Center: 1-888-777-9990 or 902-865-9602
7
If the error message is observed on all pumps then there is either a short circuit / defective connection in the communication system or a failed power connection. A common cause of this symptom is spilled flavor on either of the dogbones or their end connections.
6. Remove all the pumps and clean the “dogbones thoroughly (and end connections if there is evidence of spillage there – see page 21 for instructions on dogbone removal and page 24 for dogbone interconnect PCB removal if required).
7. Replace the pumps one at a time confirming correct functionality for each one as they are added. If at least one pump functions correctly then the fault is isolated to the pump(s) for which the error message is observed and that pump may need to be replaced. If none of the pumps function correctly then the short circuit is with the main dispenser.
8. Confirm that the power LED is ‘on’ in pumps (through pump body – see page 12 for LED location and description). If not ‘on’ then fault resides in the power system whereas if the LED is visible then the fault is likely with the communication system.
9. If the fault has been identified to be in the power system then the issue is likely limited to a broken circuit in either the dogbone(s) or the dogbone interconnect PCB (since the door power is present and the connections are in series). In that case remove the suspect parts, examine them for defects and repair or replace as required.
If the issue has been determined to reside in the communication system the fault can be either a short circuit anywhere in the communication system or a broken communication line between the dogbone and the door controller.
10. Remove one dogbone at a time (see page 21) and test a pump in the remaining dogbone. If the pump works with one of the dogbones removed then there is a short circuit in the removed dogbone and it may need to be replaced.
11. If the problem persists then the fault could be either: a short circuit in:
the dogbone interconnect PCB any of the cables; or
a break in a communication conductor in:
the dogbone interconnect PCB the door cable
the door controller PCB. To track down these faults either do continuity testing on the suspect parts or replace the parts one at a time with replacement parts that are known to function correctly. Repair or replace defective parts as appropriate.
Flavor, Cup Size or Beverage Type button does not appear to function (LED does not light and there is no beep when button is pressed)
1. Ensure that the LCD reads (Select Beverage or Select Flavor before testing the functionality.
2. If it appears not to work then go into Program -> Buttons Mode and make sure that the button in question it is turned on (See page 28).
3. Go into ‘Program -> Target Adjust Mode’ and make sure that the dispense target(s) is set appropriately for that flavor/cup size combination (See Operations Manual).
Note: If the LED indicator works on the button but the beep does not sound for any button, then the Door PCB may be faulty and the door may need to be replaced. Also, if the beep sounds when the button is pressed but the LED doesn’t light up then the door PCB may be faulty and the door may have to be replaced.
