OVERVIEW / NSF® TYPE / COMPLIANCE / WARNINGS / PRECAUTIONS / WIRING - PAGE 1 of 2
OVERVIEW
 This merchandiser's upper (service) section consists of
two (2) separate areas:
1. The upper two shelves are AMBIENT (non-refrigerated) only. It is designed to offer packaged or unpackaged non-hazardous product.
2. The deck area is convertible. Depending upon baffle
position, this area may be either AMBIENT or REFRIGERATED. In ambient mode, it is designed to merchandise packaged or unpackaged, non-hazardous product. In refrigerated mode, it is designed to merchandise packaged or unpackaged hazardous or non-hazardous product at 38 °F (3 °C) or less temperature.
 The lower (self-service) section is REFRIGERATED
only. It is designed to offer packaged hazardous or nonhazardous product at 38 °F (3 °C) or less temperature.
 Product must be pre-chilled at 38 °F (3 °C) or less prior
to being placed in refrigerated areas of case.
 Cases should be installed and operated according to this
operating manual’s instructions to insure proper performance. Improper use will void warranty.
NSF® TYPE
This unit is designed for the display of products in ambient store conditions where temperatures and humidity are maintained within a specific range.
 For NSF® Type 1 Conditions (most cases): ambient
conditions are to be at 55% maximum humidity and maximum temperatures of 75 °F (24 °C).
 For NSF® Type 2 Conditions: ambient conditions are to
be at 60% maximum humidity and maximum temperatures of 80 °F (27 °C).
 If unsure if unit is NSF® Type 1 or 2, see tag next to
serial label. See SERIAL LABEL LOCATION & INFORMATION LISTED / TECH INFO & SERVICE section in this manual for sample serial labels).
COMPLIANCE
 Performance issues when in violation of applicable
NEC, federal, state and local electrical and plumbing codes are not covered by warranty.

PRECAUTIONS
 Following are important precautions to prevent
damage to unit or merchandise.
 Please read carefully!
 See previous page for specifics on OVERVIEW, NSF
TYPE, COMPLIANCE and WARNINGS.
CAUTION
Fluorescent lamps have been treated to resist breakage
and must be replaced with similarly treated lamps.
CAUTION! GFCI BREAKER USE REQUIREMENT
If N.E.C. (National Electric Code) or your local code
requires GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection,
you MUST use a GFCI breaker in lieu of a GFCI receptacle.
WIRING DIAGRAM
 Each case has its own wiring diagram folded and in its
own packet.
 Wiring diagram placement may vary; it may be placed
near ballast box, field wiring box, raceway cover, or other related location.
CAUTION
CAUTION
CAUTION! ADVERSE CONDITIONS / SPACING ISSUES
 Performance issues caused by adverse conditions are NOT covered
by warranty.
 End panels must be tightly joined or kept at least 6-inches away from
any structure to prevent condensation.
 Unit must be kept at least 15-feet from exterior doors, overhead HVAC
vents or any air curtain disruption to maintain proper temperatures.
 Unit must not be exposed to direct sunlight or any heat source (ovens,
fryers, etc.).
 Tile floors, low ceilings or small rooms will increase noise level.
Whisper Cool compressor blanket or remote unit may resolve noise level issues.
 Keep at least 8-inch clearance above unit for air discharge
(self-contained units only).
CAUTION! CHECK CONDENSATE PAN POSITION & PLUG
Water on flooring can cause extensive damage!
Before powering up unit, check and confirm the following:
 Condensate pan must be DIRECTLY UNDER condensate drain.  Condensate pan plug must be securely plugged into receptacle.  Overflow pan must have plug connected to its box. Units with
optional Clean Sweep™ MUST HAVE 2 plugs connected.

INSTALLATION
Installation
: Units shown may not depict an exact representation of your particular unit being installed.
Note
1. Remove Unit From Skid
Caution: case must always remain supported or center of gravity will allow case to fall. Slide unit to rear of skid and carefully tip backward off skid.
2. Adjust Levelers
 After case is in proper position, adjust case so it is level
and plumb by adjusting levelers.
 You may need to remove front and/or rear Toe-Kick to
access levelers.
 Adjust levelers with 1” open-end wrench. It may be
necessary to use a Pry Bar to do so.
 Do not use Pry Bar on Toe-Kick.  Do not use Pry Bar on End Panel.  Use Pry Bar ONLY on Base Frame to avoid damaging
case.

START-UP AND OPERATION
Merchandiser Start-Up
 Turn main power on. Remove rear grille cover if
installed. Switch is up and under rear raceway on right side of case. The Temperature Controller will illuminate.

Coil fans should turn on. From inside of case, check

for discharge air from front baffle, to confirm that the fans are functioning properly. When the case is in a start up mode or has been

idle for a long period of time, unit will require 75 minutes to pull-down temperature. Turn lights on. All lights should come on at the same

time. First time lighting may require a short warm up period for the bulbs. Slightly dim or a flickering of new bulbs is normal. If lights do not turn on, check that all of the light plugs are in. The lighting is wired
in series so all lights must be plugged in or receptacles capped in order for the case to light. It is recommended that the self contained

refrigerated cases maintain front airflow clearance of approximately twelve inches and rear airflow clearance of approximately six inches.
 Obstruction or restriction of air voids warranty.
The interior case temperature reaches 2 °C / 35 °F

to 5 °C / 41 °F, Note: Case temperature is set at
the factory, as determined by the case size. The temperature is controlled by a thermostat. If a temperature setting change is required, refer to the
instructions for the TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER PROGRAMMING section of this
manual.
Note: Set point should be –8 °C / 18 °F to –7 °C /

20 °F. This will maintain the product temperature range. Settings lower than this can cause food items to freeze

Baffles: Ambient vs. Refrigerated
Certain sections of the case can be either ambient or refrigerated (depending upon type of product being displayed).
A Dual-Purpose Baffle is provided to facilitate desired condition. It is accessible through rear doors.
The Baffle will prevent (or allow) refrigerated air from circulating through the display area and returning through the Air Return Grille.
1. For Ambient (Non-Refrigerated) conditions, Baffle must be positioned to block air flow. See photo #1 at top right. Note
: Depending upon model, options and features chosen, photos may not exactly reflect every aspect of your particular case.
2. To switch from Ambient to Refrigerated condition, lift Baffle up and out of air chamber. Rotate 90 degrees so arrows on the tag point down and tag is to the rear of the case. Lower Baffle, with slots facing up, back down into the air chamber. See photo #2 at mid-right.
3. For Refrigerated conditions, Baffle is positioned to allow air to circulate through display area and return through Air Return Grille. See photo #3 at lower-right.
 Note: To clean, remove Baffle from case,
brush out crumbs or residue from Baffle. Wipe down with clean rag dipped in mild soap and water solution.
