Thank you for choosing the SteelSeries Merc Stealth. This keyboard has been designed by
SteelSeries, a leading manufacturer of gaming peripherals and accessories, including headsets,
keyboards, mice, software and gaming surfaces popular in more than 75 countries. This manual is
designed to familiarize you with all aspects of the keyboard from setup to usage. We hope that you
will find it helpful.

ABOUT MERC STEALTH

The SteelSeries Merc Stealth gaming keyboard features 34 dedicated gaming terrain keys, making it
easier and more intuitive than ever to walk, run, jump, crouch and move directionally in games. The
gaming terrain keys, tilted at an 11° angle, are ergonomic and comfortable even during long gaming
sessions. The keyboard features 3 different illumination colors (blue, red and purple), which can be
set to 4 different illumination modes (subtle, ambient, intense and off).

SteelSeries Merc Stealth supports simultaneous keystrokes and features a number of hotkeys for
multimedia, navigation and other one-click controls. The keyboard features two USB 2.0 ports, gold­plated microphone and headset jacks all connected through a gold-plated USB connector. All keys
on the keyboard can be programmed with the powerful SteelSeries Z Engine software, allowing for
programmable keys and easy to use drag-and-drop macro creation.

SteelSeries Merc Stealth - Setup and Installation

SETTING UP YOUR STEELSERIES KEYBOARD

1.

Plug your keyboard into an available USB port in your computer. The keyboard also comes with built
in headset and microphone jacks, located above the Function keys. To use these audio features,
ensure that the keyboard’s headset and microphone connectors are plugged into the appropriate
sockets of your computer.

Download and install the latest software version for your keyboard which can be found in our product
download section at www.steelseries.com/downloads.

After installation is complete a green “Z” tray tool icon will appear in your System Tray and you will
now be able to customize your keyboard and make use of the multimedia controls and one-click
actions on the numpad.

Open SteelSeries Z Engine software.

Set your headset or speaker volume to the desired level.

Mute the sound coming from your headset or speakers.

Rewind and fast-forward or go to the previous / next song, movie or picture.

Play or pause songs, movies and slideshows.

Stop songs, movies and slideshows.

Bind any of 3 hot keys to launch your favorite games or applications.

Switch between 3 backlight color variations - blue, purple and red.

Adjust the backlighting intensity - subtle, ambient, intense and off.

ILLUMINATION & ILLUMINATION CONTROLS

The illumination on SteelSeries Merc Stealth was designed to give gamers greater visibility of all keys
in low-light conditions. There are four levels of backlighting (subtle, ambient, intense and off) and 3
color variations (blue, red and purple) that can be customized to your preference through two keys
located on the top of your keyboard to the right of the hotkeys. See page 5 for further instructions on
how to use these controls.

MEDIA KEYS AND ONE-CLICK CONTROLS

On the top of your keyboard you will find a set of media keys allowing you to easily control your
music, movies and pictures. A set of frequently used commands (find, home, show desktop etc.) can
also be accessed on the numpad. To use the regular numpad simply hit Num Lock and all one-click
controls will be deactivated.

USB HEADSET AND MICROPHONE PORTS

On the back of your keyboard you will find two USB 2.0 ports and one headset and microphone port
allowing you to easily plug in your headset and mouse to get your desktop up and running quickly.

ERGONOMICS

To support the unique requirements of gamers, SteelSeries products are developed with the utmost
focus on precision ergonomics that promote long-term comfort and support.

Two split folding keyboard legs unfold from the bottom of the keyboard. These legs allow you to
adjust the tilt of the keyboard to your choice of three angles which you can set to your preference.
Furthermore the gaming terrain keys on the left side of the keyboard have been tilted to an 11° angle
to facilitate a natural and comfortable position for the arm.

UTILIZING STEELSERIES Z ENGINE

Complete with pre-defined user layouts (key mappings) for the biggest games, advanced
customization and remapping abilities, multi-device support, robust content and updates, and other
in-development add-ons; SteelSeries Z Engine software is your Gaming companion.

To access the Z Engine Software from the System Tray icon, double-click or right-click on it and
choose the appropriate option. This will open the main window of the software. There are other ways
to open the software such as Start ¨ Programs, or pressing the key labeled ‘Z’ on the Merc Stealth.

For full help and details on the Z Engine software please refer to the Z Engine Software User Guide
which can be found under the ‘Help’ section of the Z Engine Software.

SOFTWARE UPDATES

We recommend that you regularly check www.steelseries.com/downloads for the most recent
software updates to your keyboard. The SteelSeries Z Engine software gets updated frequently with
profiles for the latest games.

Should you experience any problems with your keyboard visit www.steelseries.com/support and
submit a support request that will be answered promptly by our customer support team. This includes
regular product support as well as RMA (Return Materials Authorization).
