Risk of fire, explosion, and electrical shock.
Heater service and repair must be performed by a qualified
installer, service agency, or the gas supplier.
NOTICE: Be sure that you don’t move the heating coil or condensate evaporator during this operation. If you do move either
of them, you must open the combustion chamber and reposition
them. Call Sta-Rite Customer Service before attempting this.
Location
The Coil/Tubesheet O-Rings are installed on the ends of the
heating coil tubes, between the heating coil and the manifold
adapter.
Function
The Coil/Tubesheet O-Rings seal the ends of the heating coil
where they meet the manifold adapter.
Installing Coil/Tubesheet O-Rings
1. Turn off the filter pump and all electrical power to the
heater. Close the external Manual Gas Valve.
2. If the heater is below the water level of the pool, close the
isolation valves to avoid draining the pool.
3. Remove the drain plug under the manifold and drain the
heater.
4. While the heater is draining, remove the upper left and
upper right jacket halves.
5. Remove the switch covers on the sides of the manifold
and unplug the Automatic Gas Shutoff, the High Limit
Thermostat, and the Thermistor. Mark the wires for correct
re-connection.
6. Disconnect the water pressure switch.
7. Disconnect the gas pipe back to the external manual gas
valve to allow the heater to move enough to provide
working room.
8. Disconnect the inlet and outlet unions and move the
heater enough to allow removal of the manifold. On older
heaters, remove the manifold adapter and the inlet/outlet
manifold as a unit.
9. Unscrew the bolts that attach the manifold (or manifold
adapter) to the tube sheet and remove the manifold/
adapter as a unit.
10. Remove the old O-rings from the tube sheet and clean the
tube sheet.
11. Install new O-Rings. Lubricate the O-Rings with Parker
O-Ring Lube for easy installation.
NOTICE: Be sure that you don’t move the heating coil or
condensate evaporator during this operation. If you do
move either of them, you must open the combustion
chamber and reposition them. Call Sta-Rite Customer
Service before attempting this.
12. Reinstall the manifold. Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross
alternating sequence to a torque of 125-150 in-lbs. Do not
overtighten.
13. To complete installation, reverse steps 1 through 8 above.
14. Check for water leaks at unions and at manifold flange
(where it joins the tube sheet).
15. Use a soapy water solution to test for gas leaks before
starting the heater.
Safety Precautions:
Fire or explosion hazard. Disconnect all
power to the heater and close the external manual gas
valve before starting this procedure. Check for gas leaks
with a soapy water solution after reassembly.
