Of all the many important details that must be addressed when properly servicing a driveshaft,
overlooking one small detail can cause big problems: Corrosion caused by electrolysis.
Electrolysis will occur when two dis-similar metals are used in close proximity and moisture is
present. Using a u-joint kit with steel bearing caps in a driveshaft assembly with aluminum
yokes will result in electrolysis. When the time comes to service or repair the driveshaft, the ujoint and yoke will have “welded” together making replacement impossible.
To prevent this from occurring, use Spicer
coating to prevent electrolysis.
