SIM card

The SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card, which you get from your network operator, contains information about your subscription. Always turn off your phone and detach the charger and the battery before you insert or remove the SIM card.
You can save contacts on the SIM card before removing it from your phone. You can also save contacts in the phone memory. See Contacts on page 23.
PIN code (SIM card lock)
The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code is a SIM card lock that protects your subscription, but not the phone itself. If the card is locked, you have to enter the PIN code when you turn on your phone. To change your PIN code, see SIM card lock on page 42. Each PIN digit appears as *, unless it starts with emergency number digits, for example, 112 or 911. You can call an emergency number without entering a PIN.
If you enter the wrong PIN three times in a row, PIN blocked To unblock it, you need to enter your PUK (Personal Unblocking Key).

Charge the battery

Your phone battery is partly charged when you buy it.
It may take 30 minutes for the battery icon to appear on the screen.
Using the USB charger
To connect the charger and charge the battery (The illustrations are for guidance only and may not accurately depict the actual phone
1 Connect the USB cable (you can get instruction for three conditions from

illustration. The USB cable is supplied with your phone.
2 Connect the USB cable connector to your phone. Press a key to view
the charging status on the screen. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully cha rge the battery.

To remove the charger
1 Charge your battery until the battery icon indicates a full charge. 2 Tilt the USB charger connector upwards to remove it.
Note:
1 If there are two USB cables in the kit (USB cable for charging and USB
cable for data transferring. See the illustrations as below), then the USB cable for charging is only intended for charging your phone. Do not use it for transferring data. The USB cable for the USB charger is only intended for connection to the AC adapter to charge your phone. It must not be used for
connection to a PC. It can only be used for charging your phone. Never use it for charging accessories.

4 Sony Ericsson strongly recommends that you use only
Sony Ericsson branded original batteries, the part of power supply device in accordance wi th YD/T 1591-2006 speci fications of Communications Industry Standards of P. R. China and the USB cable supplied with your phone to charge the phone. The use of third-
party products may decrease the performance of your phone and/or pose a risk to your health or safety.
You can charge the battery for more or less than 2. 5 hours. Interrupted charging will not damage the ba ttery . Performance depends on temperatures, signal strenth, usage patterns, features selected and voice or data transmissions. The stand-by time for this battery is up to 300 hours.
Use only Sony Ericsson branded original batteries intended for use with your mobile phone. If you use other batteries you may not be able to charge your phone.

Memory Stick Micro™

Your phone supports Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™). A memory card more storage space to your phone, for ex ample, music, ringtones, clips and pictures. You can share your saved information by moving or copying it to other memory card compatible devices.
To insert Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™)
Open the cover and insert the memory card (with the gold-coloured
contacts facing down)

Turning on the phone

To turn on the phone
1 Press and hold down . 2 Enter your SI M card PIN,
if requested.
3 Select Yes to use the setup
wizard.
If you make a mistake when you enter your PIN, you can press
to delete numbers from the screen.
Standby
After you have turned on the phone and entered your PIN, the name of your operator appears on the screen. This is called standby. You can now make and receive calls.
To turn the phone off
Press and hold down .
In your phone cannor turn on, attach the charger and charge the phone for 2.5 hours.
If your phone turns itself off when being transported, turn the automatic keylock on. This prevents things in your pocket or bag from activating the on/off key accidentally.

Network coverage
Network coverage
The network bars show the strength of the GSM network in your area. Move to another location if you have problems calling and network coverage is poor. No network means you are n ot in rang e of a network.
