Sony SEL1655G Specifications

SEL1655G
E 16-55mm F2.8 G lens
A compact, large-aperture APS-C standard zoom for users who want a small, lightweight system that provides advanced control as well as outstanding image quality. This 16-55mm (24-82.5 mm full-frame equiv.) standard zoom lens weighs in at only 494g. The advanced G lens design suppress abortion, reections, are and ghosting, while the 9-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh. It incorporates the same XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motor technology found in the Fullframe G Master series to obtain fast, precise, quiet autofocus and tracking
Key Features
Premium G Lens optical design
This 16-55mm (24-82.5 mm full-frame equiv.) standard zoom lens weighs in at only 494g. The advanced G lens design includes two Advanced Aspherical and two Aspherical elements to suppress abortion and three ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass elements and Nano AR coating to suppress reections, are and ghosting. The 9-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh while the XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motor oers fast, precise, quiet AF and tracking
F2.8 max aperture
9-blade circular aperture contributes to gorgeous bokeh
The 9-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light. Conventional aperture blades have at sides that create unappealing, polygonal-shaped defocused points of light. Alpha lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.
Two AA (advanced aspherical) elements and two aspherical elements
Two AA (advanced aspherical) elements and two aspherical elements suppress aberration for outstanding corner-to-corner G Lens resolution. These four specially shaped “aspherical” elements restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and ultra-wide angles, achieving impressively high resolution that fully satises expectations for the G Lens brand.
XD Linear Motor for fast, precise, quiet AF
Sony’s advanced XD (extreme Dynamic) linear motor technology - the same type used in G Master series lenses - focuses on and tracks even fast-moving subjects with outstanding speed and precision. Operation is also quiet, allowing videographers to take advantage of the constant F2.8 aperture.
Three ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass elements
Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements take axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration due to dierences in magnication out of the picture, maximizing resolution and bokeh while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration, while signicantly reducing are and ghosting.
Nano AR coating suppresses reections, are and ghosting
Sony’s original Nano AR Coating technology minimizes are and ghosting, for dynamic range that achieves lifelike detail and gradation with advanced camera sensors. This precisely dened regular nano-structure allows accurate light transmission, contributing to high-quality images, even more so than with lenses that use coatings with an irregular nano-structure. The reection suppression characteristic of the Nano AR Coating is superior to conventional anti-reective coatings, providing a notable improvement in clarity, contrast, and overall image quality.
Focus hold button, programmable for multiple functions
The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing, but can be customized to a number of other functions depending on your needs. In addition to Focus Hold, these custom functions include: Eye AF, AF On, Aperture Preview, Shot Result Preview or Bright Monitoring.
Linear Response MF
Linear Response MF realizes precise manual focus control, closely equivalent to mechanical manual focus, which enables linear focus transition to ring rotation angle for repeatable and accurate manual focus that is especially desirable for MF control during video capture.
Instant auto/manual focus selection
Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you, or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you chose.
Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability
1
The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures1.
Flourine coating
The front lens element features a uorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe o any contaminants that do become attached to the lens surface.
Close-up shooting
Get a unique perspective through close-up, shooting. The combination of high close-up capability with a minimum focusing distance of 13” (0.33m) and a max. magnication of 0.2x to produces unique expression with dramatic perspectives and beautiful background bokeh.
