About the NEX-5T

The NEX-5T is equipped with all the functions of the NEX-5R. This section, “About the NEX-5T,” describes the added functions of the NEX-5T, the procedure for using them, and the differences between the NEX-5R and the NEX-5T. For shared functions among the NEX-5R and the NEX-5T, refer to sections other than “About the NEX-5T.” Also, refer to the instruction manual of the NEX-5T and the flyer “Wi-Fi Connection/ One-touch (NFC) Guide.”

Added functions of the NEX-5T

The following functions have been added to the NEX-5T compared to the NEX-5R.

Renamed functions on the NEX-5T

On the NEX-5T, the following functions have been renamed from the NEX-5R, but the features are the same. To search for these functions in this handbook, use the NEX-5R function names.

One-touch sharing (Sending an image to a Smartphone)

With just one touch, you can connect the camera and an NFC-enabled Android Smartphone, and send an image displayed on the camera screen directly to the Smartphone. Download and install the application “PlayMemories Mobile” from your Smartphone’s application store. If “PlayMemories Mobile” is already installed on your Smartphone, be sure to update it to the latest version. For details on “PlayMemories Mobile,” refer to the support page (http://www.sony.net/ pmm/).
To send images to an iPhone, or to an Android Smartphone without the NFC function, refer to “Sending images without using the NFC function”.

• If you cannot find an N mark on the Smartphone, confirm the touch-point referring to the instruction manual of the Smartphone.
• You can select an image size to be sent to the Smartphone from [Original], [2M] or [VGA]. To change the image size: For Android, select [Image quality] from the “PlayMemories Mobile” menu, and for iPhone, select the setting menu t “PlayMemories Mobile” t [Image quality].
Notes
• When the camera plays back images in index mode, you cannot send images us ing One-touch sha ring.
• When [Airplane Mode] is set to [On], you cannot connect the camera and the Smartphone. Set [Airplane Mode] to [Off].
• RAW images are converted to JPEG format when they are sent.

Set the image selection mode and then send images to a Smartphone. Download and install the application “PlayMemories Mobile” from your Smartphone’s application store. If “PlayMemories Mobile” is already installed on your Smartphone, be sure to update it to the latest version. For details on “PlayMemories Mobile,” refer to the support page (http://www.sony.net/ pmm/).
Connecting the camera and a Smartphone using One-touch connection
1 MENU t [Playback] t [Send to Smartphone] t desired mode.
• When you press (Send to Smartphone) on the camera, proceed to step 1 of [Select on This
Device].
Select on This Device Selects images to be sent to the Smartphone from the camera.

Smart Remote Embedded

You can use a Smartphone as the remote controller for the camera, and shoot still images. Still images shot via remote control are sent to the Smartphone from the camera. Download and install the application “PlayMemories Mobile” from your Smartphone’s application store. If “PlayMemories Mobile” is already installed on your Smartphone, be sure to update it to the latest version. For details on “PlayMemories Mobile,” refer to the support page (http://www.sony.net/ pmm/).
To send images to an iPhone, or to an Android Smartphone without the NFC function, refer to “Launching [Smart Remote Embedded] without using One-touch remote.”
Launching [Smart Remote Embedded] using One-touch remote
With a one-touch operation, you can connect the camera to an NFC-enabled Android Smartphone, and operate the camera and shoot still images remotely using the Smartphone as a controller (One-touch remote).
1 Activate the NFC function of the Smartphone.
2 Switch the camera to shooting mode.
3 Touch the Smartphone to the camera,
aligning both N marks.
The Smartphone and the camera are connected, and “PlayMemories Mobile” launches. On the camera, [Smart Remote Embedded] launches.

Check the composition of the image on the Smartphone screen, and then press the shutter button (A) on the Smartphone to shoot an image.

Notes
• [Smart Remote Embedded] is available when the shooting mode is s et to [Intellig ent Auto], [Scene Selection], [Manual Exposure], [Shutter Priority], [Aperture Priority] or [Progra m Auto]. When the shooting mode is set to a mode other than the modes above, it is automatically switched to [Intelligent Auto].
• [Smar t Remote Embedded] is not available for movie shooting.
• When [Quality] is set to [RAW] or [RAW & JPEG], it is automatically changed to [Fine].
• If a memory card is not inserted in the camera, you can shoot still images and send them to a Smartphone. However, the images shot will not be saved on the camera.

One-touch(NFC)

You can call up a desired application from the application menu of the camera by touching an NFC-enabled Android Smartphone to the camera. If the application you call up has a feature that works with the Smartphone, the camera and the Smartphone will be connected via Wi-Fi. To use this function, register the desired application in advance.
1 MENU t [Setup] t [One-touch(NFC)] t desired application.
2 Switch the camera to shooting mode.
3 Touch an NFC-enabled Android Smartphone to the N mark on this
camera for more than two seconds.
• “PlayMemories Mobile” launches on the Smartphone, and the application you have registered in Step 1 launches on the camera.
Notes
• When the camera is in playback mode, the registered application will not launch even if you touch the Smartphone to the camera.
• When you call up an application with one touch, even if that application does not work with a Smartphone, “PlayMemories Mobile” on Smartphone launches. Exit “PlayMemories Mobile” without performing a n operation.

Airplane Mode

When you board an airplane, etc., you can turn off all Wi-Fi and NFC functions temporarily.
1 MENU t [Setup] t [Airplane Mode] t desired mode.
• If you set [Airplane Mode] to [On], an (airplane) mark will be displayed on the screen.

Troubleshooting

Wi-Fi/NFC
Cannot find the wireless access point to be connected.
• Wireless access points may not be displaye d on the camera due to signal conditions. Place the camera closer to the wireless access point.
• Wireless access points may not be displayed on the camera depending on the access point sett ings. Refer to the instructi on manual of the wireles s access point.
[WPS Push] does not work.
• [WPS Push] may not work depe nding on the access point settings. Check the SSID and password of the wireless access p oint, and perform [Access Point Settings].
[Send to Computer] is canceled halfway.
• Wh en the battery remaining level of the camera is low, [Send to Computer ] may be canceled halfway. Charge the battery pack and try again.
Cannot send movies to the Smartphone.
• For movies, only MP4-format file can be sent to the Smartphone. To record MP4-format movies, select MENU t [Image Size] t [File Format ] t [MP4].
[Send to Smartphone] is canceled halfway.
• When the battery remaining level of the camera or Smartphone is low, [Send to Smartphone] may be canceled halfway. Charge the battery pack and try again.
The shooting screen is not displayed smoothly./The connection between the camera and the Smartphone is disconnected.
• Data communication between the camera and the Smartphone may fail du e to signal condi tions. Place the camera closer to th e Smartphone.

Cannot connect the camera to a Smartphone using the One-touch function.
• Place the N mark on the Smartphone and the N mark on the camera as close as possible. If there is no response, move the Smartphone a few millimeters or move the Smartphone away from the camera, wait more than 10 seco nds, and then touch them together again.
• If you cannot make a connection, do as the following:
– Launch “PlayMemories Mobile” on your Smartphone, and then move the Smartphone slowly
toward the N mark of the camera. – If the Smartphone is in a case, remove it. – If the camera is in a case, remove it.
• Make sure the strap isn’t coveri ng the N mark on the camera when touching the Smartphone to the camera.
• [Airplane Mode] is activated. Set [Airplane Mode] to [Off].
• When the c amera plays back images in index mode, you cannot connect the camera and the Smartphone with one touch.
• Check whether the NFC function is activated on your Smartpho ne. For details, refer to the instruct ion manual of the Smartphone.
• Do not plac e any metal objects other than a Smartphone near the N mark.
• Do not contact two or more Smartphones to the camera at the same time.
• If another NFC-based applica tion is running on your Smartphone, terminate that application.
Cannot download applications using the camera’s Wi-Fi.
• I f the IP address of the camera is fixed, you cann ot download appli cations using Wi-Fi. Select MENU t [Setup] t [Access Point Settings] t access point to be connected, then set [IP Address Setting] to [Auto]. Or connect the camera and the computer using a USB cable, and then download an application via the computer.

• You can adjust the LCD screen to an easily viewable angle and shoot from any position.
• You can adjust the LCD screen upward by about 90 degrees.
NEX-5R:
• You can adjust the LCD screen to an easily viewable angle and shoot from any position.
• Tilt the LCD screen upward about 180 degrees when you take a self-portrait. The 3-second delay self-timer is automatically selected in the default setting (page 141).
• When storing the LCD screen after Self-portrait shooting, lower the LCD screen completely until it fits against the camera body, then slide the LCD screen upward until both the bottoms of the LCD screen and the camera body are aligned.

• Use this when using an AC-PW20 AC Adaptor (sold separately). Insert the connection plate into the battery compartment, and then pass the cord through the connection plate cover as shown below.
