These Operating Instructions describe how to sign up
for the WebTV® Classic service and how to use your Sony
Internet Terminal.

Note to the CATV Installer

attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for

Smart Card Slot
Your Sony Internet Terminal is equipped with a Smart Card Slot. To
avoid damaging your Internet Terminal, do not insert foreign
objects into the slot.

Internef Terminal. Record the serial number in the space provided
below. Refer fo these numbers whenever you call upon your Sony
dealer regarding this product.

Congratulations on your purchase of the Sony Internet Terminal. To
access the Internet with this product, you need to subscribe to the
Microsoft® WebTV Network Classic service (referred to in these
Operating Instructions as the "WebTV® Classic service"). Becoming
a subscriber is easy (see "Signing Up" on page 9).
This chapter reviews package contents and battery requirements.
^ The WebTV Classic service is constantly expanding. For instructions on using the
WebTV Classic service, refer to the on-screen help or to "Your guide to using
WebTV".

Introduction
Batteries for the Remote Control .
Insert two size A A batteries (supplied) into the remote control as
shown.
Be sure to match the + and - marks on the batteries with the + and ■
marks inside the battery compartment.
Under normal conditions, batteries will last up to six months. If the remote control
is not working properly, the batteries may be worn out. When replacing batteries,
replace both batteries, and do not mix different brands and types. After you replace
batteries, you may need to reprogram the remote control. See "Programming the
Remote Control" on page 19 for details.
About these Operating Instructions
These Operating Instructions describe how to connect to the
Internet via the WebTV Classic service. Once you're connected to
the WebTV Classic service, you can use the on-line instructions and
take a tour. To get additional help on using your Internet Terminal,
and using the WebTV Classic service, refer to "Your guide to using
WebTV".
Using the Remote Control and Basic
Functions
Although the Internet Terminal's remote control is preset to operate
Sony brand TV's, you can program the remote control to operate
other manufacturer's TV's. This will enable you to operate your TV
when viewing regular broadcast TV using the remote control. For
information, see "Programming the Remote Control" on page 19.
