Operating Instructions
Before operating the unit, please read this manual thoroughly and retain it for future reference.
The model number is located at the front and bottom and the serial number at the bottom. Record the serial number in the space provided below. Refer to these numbers whenever you call upon your Sony dealer regarding this product.

INFORMATION
This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy and if not installed and used properly, that is, in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, may cause interference to radio and television recep tion. It has been type tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B computing device in accordance with the specifications in Subpart J of Part 15 of FCC Rules, which are designed to provide reasonable protec tion against such interference in a residential installa tion. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular Installation. If this equip ment does cause interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

Precautions
• Do not open the casing. Refer serving to qualified personnel only.
• Operate the unit only on 9 V DC. For AC operation, use the supplied AC power adaptor. Do not use any other AC power adaptor. For car battery operation, use the Sony DCC-E190L
car battery cord (not supplied). Do not use any other car battery cord.
• Disconnect the AC power adaptor from the wall
outlet when the unit is not to be used for an extended period of time.
• Do not place the unit in a hot place or in a place
subject to excessive dust or vibration.
• Avoid rough handling.
• Clean the unit with a soft cloth slightly dampened
with a mild detergent solution. Never use strong solvents, such as thinner or benzine, as they may damage the finish.
• When the unit is exposed to a sudden change of
temperature, moisture condensation will occur inside. In this case, leave the unit In a dry place for a while before use.
On LCD
• Do not press the LCD screen forcibly, as it may
cause poor picture and damage to the unit.
• Use the unit within a temperature range of 0°C to
45°C (32°Fto 113°F).
• When you use the unit in a cold place, double images or delayed images may occur but this is not a malfunction.
On the AC power adaptor
• One blade of the plug is wider than the other for the purpose of safety and will fit into the power outlet only one way. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, contact your dealer.

Power Sources
Using on House Current (120V AC)
Use only the supplied AC power adaptor or DCC-E190L car battery cord. Do not use any other AC power adaptor or car battery cord.

Polarity of the plug
When the unit is not to be used for a long period of time,
remove the batteries to avoid unit damage caused by battery leakage and corrosion.
Using on the Alkaline Batteries
Insert six size C (LR14) batteries (not supplied).
Insert the batteries with correct polarities.
Reinstall the lid.
To remove the batteries
Pull the ribbon. The batteries will come out of the
compartment.
Battery replacement
When the batteries become weak, the unit’s protective function will automatically cause the picture to disappear.
In this case, replace all the batteries with new ones.
Battery life
You can continuously use for approximately 8 hours on the alkaline batteries, or approximately 2.5 hours on the manganese batteries. The batteries will last shorter in cold places.
using on Car Battery
You can use the unit only in a 12 V DC car. You need the Sony DCC-E190L car battery cord (not supplied).
Using as a Monitor
You can use the unit as a color monitor for your VCR or video camera recorder. Connect your VCR to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jack. Before connection, turn off the unit and the VCR.
If the picture is distorted or noisy, move the unit away from the VCR. When watching TV, disconnect the plug from the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jack.

When an external antenna is connected, the SIGNAL BOOSTER switch does not function.

To indicate the current channel
Press the CH (channel) CALL button. The line (green for VHF, red for UFIF) appears at the position of the current channel.
To improve the receiving condition

Set to LOW where the radio wave is strong. Set to FIIGFf where the radio wave is weak.
To turn off the TV
Set the POWER switch to OFF, and fold the antenna.
If the channel changes
If the power is momentarily lost because of a mechanical shock, or if the unit has passed through a tunnel, the channel may change. If this happens, tune in the desired channel again with CFfANNEL +/-.

Troubleshooting
Symptom Check and Adjust
The unit does not operate (No picture nor sound)
Sound is heard, but there is no picture. The picture disappears soon after the power is turnde on.
No coior Snow and noise

Dotted lines or stripes
• The polarity of the batteries is incorrect.
• The batteries are exhausted.
• The AC power adaptor is not firmly connected.
• Battery operation is attempted while the AC power adaptor or car battery cord is still connected to the DC IN 9 V jack.
• The batteries are exhausted.
• The program is not in color.
• The VHF or UHF band is not selected correctly.
• The SIGNAL BOOSTER switch is to LOW.
• The channel is not tuned in accurately.
• Adjust the antenna.
• Often caused by inter ference from neon signs, hair dryers, etc. Move the unit to another spot.
Notes on the built-in small fluorescent lamp
When the picture becomes dim or goes out soon after you turn
on the unit installed with new batteries, the built-in small
fluorescent lamp (used in the internal lighting unit) has to be replaced with new one. When replacing, consult the nearest Sony dealer.
• The life of the lamp is about 2 years when you use the unit two hours a day.
• When the batteries are run down, the lamp goes out.
• If the unit is used in a cold place, the lamp may become dim. But as the temperature of the lamp goes up, it will be as bright as in a normal condition.
