Notes on the battery pack

• Charge tile battery pack (supplied) betore using

tile camera Ior tile first time.

• You can charge the baltery pack even if it is nol completely discharged. In addition, even if tile battel T pack is not hilly charged, you can use lhe parlially charged capacily of lhe bauery pack

as is.

• If you do not intend to use the battel T pack lot a long tinle, use up the existing charge and

rclnove it I]_Ollltile camera, then store it in a cool. dry platy. This is to mainlain the bauery

pack lunctions.

This section describes the hasics so you can enjoy the camera. It tells you how to use

various camera functions such as the HOME screen (page 36X and the menus (page 38).

Hints for preventing blur

Cause

E_en though tile camera is steady, tile subject moves during the exposure so tile subject looks blulTed when tile shutter button is pressed.

Notes

The anti-blur lunction is enabled in tile lactory delault settings so that tile camera shake is reduced automatically. However, this is not ellective lor subject blur.

Besides, canlera shake and subject blur occur lrequently under low-light or slow shuoer speed condl ions, such as hose encoun ered m _ lTwlhgh ) or m /Twdlgh Por rm ) mode. In ha ca_,

shool wilh lhe above tips in mind.

What you can do to reduce the blurring

• Select I_O (High Sensitivity) mode in Scene

Selection.

• Select a higher ISO sensitivity to make the shulter speed lasler, and press the shulter buoon

belore the subject moves.

ISO sensitivity (Recommended Exposure Index)

Tile expusure is automatically set tu tile pruper value in the Auto Adjustment

mode. However, you can adjust it manually using tile functions below.

Adjusting EV:

Alluws you tu adjust the exposure determined by the camera (page 51).

Metering Mode:

Allows you to changethe part oftile subject to be measured tu determine the exposure (page 49).

Adjusting ISO Sensitivity (Recommended Exposure Index)

IS() sensitivity is a speed rating for recording media that incorporates animage sensor that receives light. Even when the exposure is the same, images differ depending on the ISO sensitivity. To adjust the ISO sensitivity, see page 50.

High ISO sensitivity

Records a bright image even in dark locations while increasing shutter speed to reduce blur. However. the image tends to become noisy.

Low ISO sensitivity

Records a smoother image. However. when the exposure is insufficient, the image may become darker.

The color tones are atliusted automatically in the Auto A(/iustmeut mode. However, you can ac[iust color tones manually with [White Balance] (page 58).

the image is displayed in fine detail. "Image size" is shown by tile number of pixels. Although you cannot see the differences oil the screen of the camera, the fine detail and data processing

time differ when the image is printed or displayed on a computer screen.

The"Red-eye phenomenon"

Pupils hecome dilated in dark environaleats. Flash light is ret]ected off tile hlood vessels at tile back of the eye (retina), causing the "red-eye" phenomenon.

How can the "Red-eye phenomenon" be reduced?

• Set [Red Eye Reducfionl to IOn] (page 60).

• Select I_'O (High Sensitivity)* mode in Scene Selection (page 42). (The flash is turned oil automatically.)

• When the eyes of the subject turn OllI red, correct the image with [Retouch] on lhe viewing menu

(page 68) or with the supplied software "Picture Motion Browser".

The"White circularspots"

This is caused by particles (dust, pollen, etc.) floating close to the lens. When they are accentuated by the camera's flash, they appear as white circular spots.

• When the item you v_,ant to set is not on the screen, touch A/V/'_/P," to change the pa_ze.

• You can return to the previous screen by touching [BACK] or Ix].

• Touching [OK] advances to the next screen.

• To operate the touch panel, press it lightly with your finger or the supplied paint pen.

• Do not press the touch panel with any pointed object other than the supplied paint pen.

• Do not press against the LCD screen more than necessary.

• If you touch the top right of the screen during shooting, the buttons and icons will momentarily disappear. The buttons and icons will reappear when you take your finger off

the screen.

Touch [DISP] on the screen to change to tile display selection screen.

• Settings <)tiler than [LCD Brighlness] should be

• In index mode. you can set lhe number of images displayed !page 30),

This sets whether or not to display the buttons air0 icons on the screen.

• During playback, touching t;;_0FF during [Normall or [Simplel mode temporarily

rcsulls in an [Image Onlyl display. To make file touch panel butlons reappear, touch the

center. During [Image Only] mode, touching the

center lemporarily results in a [Normal] display. Touch _]0FF 1o display in [hnage Onlyl again.

• When shooting or playing back in the 16:9

aspect ratio, setting [Image Onlyl is usefld because il fills file entire screen,

[Display Histogram]

This sets _xhether or not to disphly the histogram on the screen.

[)ark Bright

A hist()gram is a graph showing tile brightness of an image. Tile graph display indicates a bright image when skewed to the right side, and a dark image when

skewed to the left side. O Number of pixels

• The hislogram also appears when playing back a single image, but you cannol adjusl the exposure.

Usingthe internalmemory

The camera has approximately 15 MB ef internal memory. This memery is not removable. Even when there is no "Memory Stick Duo" inserted in tile camera, you can record images using this internal memory.

• Movies with the image size _t to [640(Fine)] cannot be recorded using the internal memory.

When a "Memory Stick Duo" is inserted

To copy (back up) data on a "Memory Stick Duo"

Prepare a "IVlemory Stick Duo" 'aith sufficient free capacity, then perform tile procedure explained in [Copy] (page 82).

To copy (back up) data on a hard disk el your computer

Perform tile procedure on pages 103 to 108 without a '%1emery Stick Due" inserted in tile calnera.

• You cannot use this lunction when using tile digital zoom,

shooting in _C_ (Close focus enabled) mode or in I::A8Y (Easy Shooting) mode.

It yon shoot a still image of a subject that is difficult to focus on

• Tile shortest shooting dist_mc_ is _q_proxinlately 8 cln (3 1/4 inches) (W h 80 cln (31 1/2 inches) (T) (fi'om

the lens). Shoot in the Close locus nlode when you shoot a subject closer than tile shooting distance.

• When the camera cannot locus on the subjecl automatically, the AE/AF lock indicalor changes to flash slowly and the beep does nol sound. Recompose the shot and locus again.

Focusing may be difficult in the following situations:

It is dark and tile subject is distant. The contrasl between tile sut_iecl and tile background is poor. Tile subjecl is seen through glass.

The subjecl is moving quickly. There is refleclive ligla or shiny sullaces.

Tile subjecl is backlil or there is a flashing ligbl,

EASYUsingEasyShootingmode

Touch tbe sbooting mode setting button, tben select EASY (Eas> Sbeoting) --+ [OK]. The text size increases and indicators become easier to see.

The camera sheets images with the optimum settings, so tbe only settings that you can cbange are hnage Size (Large/Small) (page 52), Flasb (Auto/Off) (page 52) and Self-Timer (10 sec/ Off) (p_ge 27).

Slide the zoom (W/T) lever to the T side to zoom and slide to the W side to return.
