SIMRAD SX90
Simrad high denition sonars will provide a 360 degrees picture of the immediate surroundings
Simrad is a division of Kongsberg Maritime AS. For more than sixty years, Simrad has developed and manufactured professional sonar systems for the world’s most sophisticated shing vessels. Our sonar systems are also extensively used by several nation’s coast guards and naval patrol vessels.
The Simrad SX90 is an “off the shelf” commercial sonar. Due to the low price and short delivery time, the SX90 sonar has quickly become an alternative to high cost naval sonars. The SX90 comes with a choice of three different hull units capable of handling vessel speeds up to 24 knots, or it may be supplied for xed installation in a streamlined dome.
The compact hull unit and transceiver requires a minimum of space in the sonar room, and can be adapted to most existing sonar installation trunks.
The installation is simple, and may be done in a matter of hours. The hull unit and transceiver are installed in the sonar room, while the operating panel and the processor unit are installed in the operation room. A commercial display can be used. The only required interfaces for the sonar are information from GPS and Gyro. Speed log and motion reference (MRU) inputs are optional. The sonar’s internal clock can be synchronized from the GPS.
The SX90 is designed for operation in shallow waters where
This screen capture shows the sonar echoes using a reector target
with TS=-15 dB at 20 meters depth, bottom at 140 meters
Wreck detection at 4500 meters: This screen
capture shows a long range detection of a sunken
35.000 ton cargo vessel. You can see it at 10° port side, it is marked with target tracking triangle. The wreck lays at about 100 meters depth. The other echoes are shallow banks in the area. The sonar is operated at 23 kHz using “FM Auto” and “Narrow Beam”. The position of the vessel and time and date is indicated in the lower right hand corner of the presentation.
sonar conditions are difcult due to temperature layers, bottom or other conditions. Typical applications include:
• Coastal patrol
• Anti submarine warfare
• Navigation and obstacle avoidance
• Diver monitoring
• Underwater ROV and AUV positioning
• Submarine rescue
• Iceberg detection
• Whale detection
