ThismanualdescribestheinstallationoftheSimradPI50.
Themanualisintendedfortechnicalpersonnel;qualiedmaintenanceengineersand technicians.Itisassumedthatthepersonnelisconversantwiththegeneralprinciplesof maritimeelectronicequipment,inparticularsonar,echosounderandcatchmonitoring systems.Thepersonnelmustalsobefamiliarwithcomputerhardware,signalprocessing, interfacetechnologyandtraditionaltroubleshootingonelectronicandmechanical products.
Theinstructionsmustbefollowedcarefullytoensureoptimalperformance.Asaguide, installationproceduresarepresentedintheordertheyaretobeperformed.Successful completionofeachprocedureistobeconrmedbycheckingoffthecorrespondingbox.

Systemdescription

TheSimradPI50isdesignedfortheprofessionalsherycommunityimplementingthe latestinnovations.Thecatchmonitoringsystemallowsyoutostayinfullcontrolofthe gearanditsbehaviour.Thesystemisdesignedtobeequallyusefulforallshingtypes. Bottomtrawlers,pelagictrawlers,purseordanishseiners-whateverkindofgearyou use,allvesselscantakeadvantageofthefunctionalityprovidedbythePI50.
TheSimradPI50comprisesthefollowingunits:
•Colourdisplay
•ProcessorUnit(ThePI50MarineComputermaybeprovided)
•SensorReceiver
•Hydrophone
Thehydrophoneismountedunderthevessel’shull.
Thesystemfurthercomprisesanumberofsmallandrobustsensorsmeasuringthe conditionsonyourshinggear.TheSimradPI50canreceiveinformationfromsix sensorssimultaneously.
Oneormoresensorbatterychargersarealsorequired.
Thesensorsarepoweredbybuilt-inrechargeablebatteries.Theyarehousedintitanium casings,anddesignedusingadvancedshockabsorbingmaterials.Theinformation collectedbythesensorsaresentthroughthewatertothehydrophonebymeansofcoded soundwaves.TheSensorReceiverampliesanddecodestheinformation,convertsitto digitalformat,andsendsittotheProcessorUnit(computer).Thecomputerinterpretsthe information,andnallypresentsittoyou.

Generalsupplyconditions

ThefollowingsupplyconditionsareapplicabletothisSimradPI50delivery.

Equipmentresponsibility

Theshipyardperformingtheinstallationand/orequipmentdealerbecomesfully responsiblefortheequipmentuponreceiptunlessotherwisestatedinthecontract.The durationofresponsibilityincludes:
•Theperiodoftimetheequipmentisstoredlocallybeforeinstallation.
•Duringtheentireinstallationprocess.
•Whilecommissioningtheequipment.
•Theperiodoftimebetweencommissioningandthenalacceptanceoftheequipment
bytheenduser(normallytheownerofthevesselwhichtheequipmenthasbeen installed).
Unlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadeinthecontract,theSimradPI50guarantee period(asspeciedinthecontract)beginswhentheacceptancedocumentshavebeen signed

Receipt,unpackingandstorage

Uponacceptingshipmentoftheequipment,theshipyardand/orthedealershouldensure thatthedeliveryiscompleteandinspecteachshippingcontainerforevidenceofphysical damage.Ifthisinspectionrevealsanyindicationofcrushing,dropping,immersionin wateroranyotherformofdamage,therecipientshouldrequestthatarepresentative fromthecompanyusedtotransporttheequipmentbepresentduringunpacking.
Allequipmentshouldbeinspectedforphysicaldamage,i.e.brokencontrolsand indicators,dents,scratchesetc.duringunpacking.Ifanydamagetotheequipmentis discovered,therecipientshouldnotifyboththetransportationcompanyandKongsberg MaritimesothatKongsbergMaritimecanarrangeforreplacementorrepairofthe damagedequipment.
Onceunpacked,theequipmentmustbestoredinacontrolledenvironmentwithan atmospherefreeofcorrosiveagents,excessivehumidityortemperatureextremes.The equipmentmustbecoveredtoprotectitfromdustandotherformsofcontamination whenstored.
Formoreinformation,seetheappendixrelatedtoequipmenthandling.

Generalinstallationrequirements

ThefollowinginstallationrequirementsareapplicabletothisKongsbergMaritime delivery.
Approvalbyclassicationsociety
TheSimradPI50hydrophoneinstallationmustbeapprovedbyDetNorskeV eritas (DNV)oranotherclassicationsociety.Theshipownerandshipyardperformingthe installationareresponsibleforobtaininginstallationapproval.

Supplypower

Thesupplyvoltagetotheequipmentistobekeptwithin±10%oftheinstallation’s nominalvoltage.Maximumtransientvoltagevariationsonthemainswitchboard’s bus-barsarenottoexceed-15%to+20%ofthenominalvoltage(exceptunderfault conditions).

Compassdeviation

Oncetheinstallationiscomplete,thevesselmustbeswungwiththesysteminboth theoperativeandinoperativemodes.Theshipownerandcaptainareresponsiblefor updatingthedeviationtableaccordinglywithregardtothevessel’snationalregistryand correspondingmaritimeauthority.

Noisesources

Thevessel’shull,rudder(s)andpropeller(s)shouldbethoroughlyinspectedindrydock priortoinstallation.Roughnessbelowthewater-linedeformitiesintheshellplatingand protrudingobstaclescancreateunderwaternoise.Thesesourcesofturbulencemustbe smoothedorremovedasbestaspossible.Itisespeciallyimportantthatthepropeller(s) isnotpittedordamaged.

Drydocking

Makesurethatampleclearanceunderthesonartrunkand/orprotectionblisteris providedwhendrydockingthevessel.Avoidlocatingsupportingblocksorstructuresin thevicinityofthisequipment.

Thelocationofthehydrophoneand/orprotectionblistermustbenotedonthevessel’ s dockingplanforfuturereference.
