This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to prevent
damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a safety alert
symbol, notices referring only to property damage have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are
graded according to the degree of danger.
Danger
indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken.
Warning
indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken.
Caution
with a safety alert symbol, indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken.
Caution
without a safety alert symbol, indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken.
Notice
indicates that an unintended result or situation can occur if the corresponding information is not taken into
account.
If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest degree of danger will
be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol may also include a warning relating to
property damage.

1.2 Further documentation
SMfit ACT® Basics
The Instruction Manual for the "SMfit ACT® Basics" software is provided on the CD supplied,
along with the program itself.
Perfect, safe and reliable operation of the display assumes that it has been professionally
transported, stored, mounted and installed as well as careful operator control and service.
The unit must only be used for applications for which displays are normally used. The
technical specifications of the product must be observed.
For the sake of safety, the following precautions must be observed:
Danger
There is a danger to life if the warning information is not observed. Severe personal injury or
damage to property may occur.
Do not open the unit yourself
Certain components inside the unit are at high-voltage, i.e. touching these components
presents a danger to life!
Only use a perfect line cord
A damaged line cord may result in a fire or electric shock. When disconnecting the line cord,
always do so by holding the plug.
Do not insert any objects into the housing
Objects inserted into the housing (e.g. through the ventilation slots) may result in damage to
the unit or personal injury.
2
Do not place any objects on top of the units
Penetrating liquids may result in a fire or electric shock.
Connecting
No contact to a patient must be possible when handling the connection cables.
Caution
Incorrect installation may result in extensive damage to property.
Installation must be carried out by specialists:
1. When installing your medical electrical system with our products in an environment with
patients, please observe the safety requirements of
EN 60601-1-1 (IEC 601-1-1) "Specifications for the safety of medical electrical systems"
in order to prevent injury to patients and users of your systems.
2. Use appropriate measures to ensure that the leakage currents in particular remain below
the necessary limits. Appropriate measures are:
– Separators for signal input or signal output unit
– Use of a safety isolating transformer
– Use of the additional protective conductor connection
3. Only use video cables with BNC connectors and interface cables specified by the system
manufacturer for the installation.
4. The serial interface cable must have a female Sub-D connector at the computer end.
5. Use line cords with contactor contact. Only insert into sockets with contactor contact.
6. For certain applications, the video ground can be connected to the protective ground via
the additional protective conductor in the plug panel. Observe EN 60 601-1-1 (IEC 601-1-
1).
7. Close the plug panel using the provided cover, and lock with the screw.
8. Mounting information:
The stability of the display must be ensured following mounting of the stand/holder. The
mounting screws must only have the defined length and the defined strength.
All these requirements are satisfied when using the original stand. These requirements
must be observed when using customer-specific mounting solutions. In addition, the
country-specific regulations regarding steadiness must be observed.
9. Note for users:
The closed connection panel must not be opened by users.
10. Servicing information:
If housing components have to be removed for servicing, this must not be carried out in
the presence of patients, users, or other persons not involved with servicing. Displays
with a VESA mounting surface must only be connected to the power supply with the
VESA board screwed on.
11. The following applies to installations in the USA and Canada:
Molded power supply connectors must comply with the requirements for "hospital grade
attachments" CSA Std. C22.2 No. 21 and UL 498.

Caution
Failure to observe the warnings may result in substantial damage to property.
Do not subject unit to impermissible shocks
Take care when transporting! Use the original packaging! The panel in particular should be
protected against shocks.
Notice
When touching the panel surface, the mechanical contact or an electrostatic discharge may
cause a brief disturbance in the picture quality.

SMD 18101 D Order no.: 6GF6221-2CD14
is approved for medical diagnostics according to IEC 60601-1.
The display is available in the following versions: ceiling suspension (CS), ceiling suspension
with integrated protective glass (CP = CS + protective glass) and desktop (D). It complies
with the safety standards UL 2601 and EN 60601-1.
3.3 Important features
The display has the following features, which permit a wide range of applications:
Compact design
Low weight and short overall depth are important advantages of the flat panel display
compared to conventional CRT monitors.
Perfect picture reproduction thanks to LCD technology
Distortions in the image geometry are not present because of the use of LCD technology.
The flat panel display provides a flicker-free picture even with low refresh rates (60 Hz). The
display thus fulfills even the strictest ergonomic requirements.
Modification of gray scale setting
In medical applications (e.g. for x-rays, scanners and nuclear spin tomography), where
pictures are usually displayed in shades of gray, the gray values can be adapted to the
user's eye using an on-screen display (OSD) menu. In the delivered state, several
adjustment curves can be selected. Further curves can be set using the SMfit ACT®
calibration software and a Siemens photometer (Siemens Serial Spot Meter or Siemens
Universal Serial Luminance Meter).
Screen resolution
The display is equipped with an active 18" TFT display module, which provides a very wide
viewing angle. The picture resolution is 1280 x 1024 pixels.
RGB input
The display can be connected to the computer system using BNC sockets. The display is
adapted to the signal using an OSD menu.

Description
3.3 Important features
DVI input
The display is connected to the computer system via the DVI-I input. Because of the digital
signal transmission, no adaptation using the OSD is required.
Video inputs
The display has two additional analog video inputs and can thus be operated with standard
analog video signals (PAL/NTSC). The RGB/DVI input and the two video inputs can also be
simultaneously connected to signal sources.
Protective glass
The SMD 18101 CP has anti-glare protective glass fitted over the top of the LCD panel to
protect the surface of the panel against bumps and scratches. The space between the
protective glass and the panel is sealed against dust so that the internal surfaces cannot get
dirty.
Ventilation slots are located on the housing base, the rear panel and the side panels.
The distance at the rear must be at least 10 cm from a wall or 15 cm from other units.
Observe the permissible ambient temperature range
The unit must not be operated outside the permissible ambient temperature range.
Installation on a desk
The unit must be screwed onto a stand and installed on a hard horizontal surface (unit stand
for SMD 18101 CS/CP can be ordered separately). Only the stands recommended by the
manufacturer may be used.
4
Avoid reflections on the screen
The display has an anti-glare surface which is only effective with a clean, grease-free
screen. If the screen surface is dirty, clean it using a suitable microfiber cloth.
The display should be positioned so that reflections from lights, windows, furniture with shiny
surfaces or light-colored walls do not appear on the screen.
In order to reduce mirroring on the unit, only use non-dazzling reflector lights for the ceiling
lighting.
Change of environment
If the unit is brought into a warm environment from a cold one, condensation may form in the
unit. The unit should not be switched on until all the condensed water has evaporated,
including that inside the unit. This may take several hours, depending on the conditions.
Caution
All information and warnings for this product must be observed in order to guarantee
operation free of danger.
The unit is designed for a point-to-point connection to a graphics card.
Caution
Observe shielding measures
All shielding precautions contained in the corresponding EMC guidelines must be observed.
If these guidelines are not observed, interference signals could penetrate and disturb the
display operation.
