Introduction
The Siemens Building Technologies, Fire Safety Division MSI-30BC two-stage dual address intelligent manual station provides the markets’ most advanced method of address programming and supervision, combined with sophisticated control panel communication. Each MSI30BC manual station incorporates a new custom microcomputer chip. The MSI-30BC microcomputer chip technology, and its sophisticated bi-directional communication capabilities with the control panel, achieves the state of an “Intelligent Initiating Device.” Both the pull switch and the second stage key switch have their own addresses and are fully identifiable. Only one pair of wires is required by this pull station.
Description
The MSI-30BC is constructed of durable molded polycarbonate material which is matte finished in red with raised white lettering. The housing accommodates a “pull down” lever which, when operated, locks in position indicating the manual station has been activated. The pull down lever remains down and locked until the manual station
is reset. The manual station is reset only by opening the hinged housing cover with an Allen Key and then closing and locking the cover.
The MSI-30BC is designed for 2 stage applications. The pull station is designed such that the activation of the first stage of alarm is activated by pulling down the lever. The second stage alarm is activated when the key switch is turned on. The manual station’s microcomputer chip has the capacity of storing, in memory, identification information as well as important operating status information.
Fire Safety’s innovative technology also allows all MSI30BC intelligent manual station to be programmed by using a new accessory, the Model FPI-32 Programmer/ Tester. The FPI-32 Programmer/Tester is a compact, portable, menu driven accessory which makes programming and testing a manual station device faster, easier and more dependable than previous methods. The FPI-32 eliminates the need for the device’s mechanical addressing mechanisms, such as program jumpers, dip switches or rotary dials because the FPI-32 electronically sets the

pull station’s microcomputer chip’s non-volatile memory. Vibration, corrosion and other conditions which deteriorate mechanical addressing mechanisms are no longer a cause for concern.
The MSI-30BC is fitted with screw terminals for connection to an addressable circuit. The MSI-30BC can be either surface or semi-flush mounted. The MSI-30BC manual station operates with the MXL, MXLV and the IXL control panels. The IXL requires the use of the ICON module to interface to the MSI-30BC. The MSI-30BC manual station derives its power and communication over a single pair of wires.
The MSI-30BC intelligent manual station is Underwriters Laboratories of Canada listed.
Engineer and Architect Specifications
The addressable manual station shall be constructed of durable molded polycarbonate material which is matte finished in red with raised white lettering. The housing shall accommodate a “pull down” lever, which when operated, locks in position after releasing a spring loaded switch. To indicate the manual station has been activated, the pull down lever shall remain down and locked until the manual station is reset. The manual station shall be reset only by opening the hinged housing cover with an Allen key and then closing and locking the cover.
The addressable manual station shall be ULC listed. The addressable manual station shall be dynamically supervised and uniquely identifiable by the control panel.
The addressable manual station’s two addresses shall be programmed with the use of a portable programming accessory. The programming accessory shall be a Fire Safety FPI-32 Programmer/Tester. The portable programmer shall be menu driven.
Once the desired addresses are entered, the programmer shall set and verify the addresses. The programming accessory shall also be capable of testing the device’s functionality. The addressable manual station’s addresses shall be set by electronic means only. No mechanical means such as programming pins, dip switches or rotary dials shall be required to set the device’s address.
