2. Trays
Attach the document tray.
Insert the paper tray into the back of the machi ne as shown.
Pull out the original document support and th e outpu t tray.
Note: When receiving faxes , copying or printing, do no t
let a large numbe r of pages accumulate in the output tray.
This may obstr uc t the outlet and cause paper jams.

Handset
Connect the handset as shown and pla ce it on th e handset r est.
♦ The ends of the handset lead are identical, so they will go into
either socket.
Make sure the
handset cord goes
into the unmarked
socket on the side
of the machine!
Use the handset to
make ordinary phone
calls, or to transmit
and receive
documents manually.

Para lle l cabl e
Connect the Sharp Color MF P to your computer wit h a parallel cable.
♦ If you do not have a parallel cable, you can purchase one from
your dealer or any computer store.
♦ Make sure the cable is IEEE 1284-compliant. We recommend a
shielded cable no longer than 2 meters.

Make sure your computer is turned off
and the Sharp Color MFP is
unplugged.

Connect one end of the cable to the
port on the Sharp Color MFP. Snap
the clips on each side of the port onto
the cable connector to secure it.

Connect the other end of the cable to
the parallel port on the back of your
computer.
Note: The parallel port mode of your compu te r must be set to Nibble mode
or an equivale nt m ode such as Compatible, PS/ 2, Standard, Normal or Traditional mode. Not e that ECP, EPP, By te , and Bi dir ecti ona l mode s ma y not
allow corre ct ope rat io n. To chec k or c han ge t he para ll el port mod e, run
your computer’s setup (BIOS) program after powe rin g on your compu te r.
(Refer to your com puter documentat io n for m ore informatio n).

Power le a d
Plug the power lead into a 230-240 V, 50 Hz, earthed (3-prong) AC
outlet.
♦ Caution: When disconnecting the fax, unplug the telephone line
cord before unplugging the power lead.
♦ Caution: The mains outlet (socket outlet) should be installed near
the equipment and be easily accessable.
Connections
The machine does not
have a power on/off switch,
so the power is turned on
and off by simply plugging
or unplugging the power
lead.
Note: If your area experiences a high incidence of lightning or
power surges, we recommend that you install surge protectors for the
power and telephone lines. Surge protectors can be purchased at
most telephone specialty stores.
Moving your fax and reconne c ting
Should it be necessary to move your fax to a new location, first
disconne ct the telephone li ne cord before disconnecti ng the pow er
lead. When reconnecting, it is necessary to connect the power lead
before connecting the telephone line cord.

Insert one end of the telepho ne l in e cord in to t he adapt er. Insert the
other end of the line cord into the socket on the back of the fax marked
TEL. LI NE. Plug the adapter into the telephone socket on the wall.

Note: The Sharp MFP is set for tone dialling. If you are on a pulse
dial line, you must set the Sharp MFP for pulse dialling. Press the

If desired, you can connect an extension ph one to the TEL. SET
socket on the fax.

answering machines wil l respond to incoming ring ing when conn ected
to the extension socket of the equipm ent.

4. Installing a Print Cartridge
We recommend that you
Your Sharp Color MFP
uses either a
color print cartridge or a
FO-21BC black print
cartridge.

Note: If you receive a fax when a color print cartridge is installed,
the fax will be held in memory and printed out when a black
cartridge is installed.
CARTRIDGE key
keep a black cartridge
installed for normal use,
and change to a color
cartridge only when you
need to print a color job.

Press the CARTRIDGE key.
•• The cartridge carrier will move to the centre of the print
compartment.

Open the front cover of the Sharp Color MFP.
Note on changing cartridges:
When you need to change a print
cartridge, remove the currently
installed cartridge a fte r Step 2 above.
Remove the cartridge by pu ll ing the
knob on the cartridge toward you until
you hear a click.
If the cartridge is still useable, insert it
into the cartridge holder on the back of
the machine. Push back on the
cartridge until it snaps in to pla ce.
Installing a Print Cartridge
•• To preven t the used print cartridge
from drying out, be sure to store it
in the cartridge holder.

Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging.
