INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing a RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote. Your remote lets you control up to eight home entertainment devices with one easy-to-use, compact unit.
After installing batteries (see next section), you can immediately use the RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote to control Sony home entertainment devices, and a Dish Network satellite receiver. To control other brands, perform the instructions in Programming a Device. For best results, please read and perform all the remaining instructions. Also, keep this guide for future reference.

INSTALLING BATTERIES
Yo u r RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote requires four AAA batteries (not supplied) for power.
Battery Use And Safety
• Use only fresh batteries of the required size and
recommended type.
• Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of
batteries (that is, standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities.
CAUTION: If you do not plan to use the remote for an extended period, remove the batteries. They can leak chemicals that can damage electronic parts.
WARNING: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury them.
To Install Batteries:
1. Open the battery compartment cover (located on
the back of the remote).
2. Place the AAA batteries in the compartment and
match the + and - polarity symbols inside.
3. Replace the cover. NOTE: The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote will not
lose any setup configurations, even when it loses power.

SETTING THE LANGUAGE
Before using your RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote, you must set the default language (either English or Spanish). You cannot use your remote control until you have set the language. To set the language for your remote control for the first time, perform the following steps:
1. After the remote powers up, the LCD displays
English OK or .
2. Press OK for English or press until Spanish is
displayed. Press OK.
3. The LCD displays Success and returns to normal
operation. To change the language after the initial setup, perform
the following steps:
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or . The remote is
now in the programming mode.
2. Use the or keys to scroll through the LCD
display until Language is displayed.
3. Press OK once.
4. To set the language to English, press OK once. To set
the language to Spanish, use the to scroll to
Spanish. Press OK to select Spanish as the remote
control’s language.
5. To exit this menu, press EXIT once, or use the
key to return to the previous menu.
SETTING THE CLOCK
To set the clock on your remote control, perform the following steps:
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or . The remote is
now in the programming mode.
2. Use the or keys to scroll through the LCD
until Clock set is displayed.
3. Press OK once.
4. The LCD displays the time as previously set, if any.
The first set is the hour. The second set is the
minutes. In the position following the numbers,
the LCD displays A or P for A.M. or P.M.
5. While the number for the first digit is flashing, use
the or keys to select the correct digit. You can
also change the time by pressing the number keys
on your remote control’s keypad.
6. Use the key to change to the next digit, until the
last digit is set. Use to go back to the previous
digit.
7. After you have set the correct time, use the key to
cursor over to A or P.

8. Use the or keys to select either A or P.
9. Press OK once.
10. The LCD displays Success.
11. The LCD displays a day of the week. Use the or
keys to change the day if it is not correct.
12. Press OK once. The day is now set.
13. The LCD displays Success. NOTE: The LCD does not display the clock on the
screen during normal operation. To view the current time, press and hold the Light bulb key until the LCD displays the time. The clock is used for timed macros. For more information on timed macros, see “Setting Time Macros” on page 22.
PROGRAMMING A DEVICE
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote comes pre­programmed to operate Sony TVs, VCRs, DVD players, and audio devices, as well as a Dish Network satellite receiver. To control devices other than these default brands, follow these steps; otherwise, skip this section.
Before proceeding, find the codes for the devices you want to program in Manufacturer's Codes and write them down or highlight them.
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote offers three methods for programming a device. You can program a device by selecting its brand (for the top 25 brands only), by manually entering its ID code into the remote control, or by searching for the code.
Programming a Device by Selecting Its Brand
1. Turn on the device (for example, DVD player) and,
if needed, load media (for example, a DVD).
2. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or .
3. Press OK.
4. The LCD displays Brand.
5. Press OK. The LCD displays Press Mode or
.
6. Select the mode on the remote that you would like
to set (for example, TV).
7. The LCD displays Setup CBL. Use the  keys
to scroll through the different types of devices to
set up. Press OK.
8. Select the brand of device you want to control (for
example, Sony), by using the  keys to scroll
through the brand list. You can also select your
brand by using your keypad like the keys on a cell
phone, to jump from letter to letter (for example,
press 2 repeatedly to select either A, B, or C). Press
OK.

9. Aim the remote control at your device (for
example, TV). Press any key but OK , , ,  or
EXIT to test that the remote control works with your
device. Use the  keys to select a different code
within the same brand, if any. Press OK to save.
10. The LCD displays Success.
11. The LCD displays Edit Text. This option allows
you to change the default display for this mode
from the brand of the device (for example, Sony) to
a personalized display (for example, My TV). Press
OK to edit text, or press  to exit without text
editing. See steps 4-5 of “Using Text Edit” on
page 25.
Programming a Device by Manually Entering Its Code
1. Turn on the device (for example, DVD player) and,
if needed, load media (for example, a DVD).
2. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or .
3. Press OK once. The LCD displays Brand.
4. Use the  keys to scroll through the
LCD display until it displays ID Set.
5. Press OK.
6. The LCD displays Press Mode OK or .
Press the mode on the remote for the device you
want to program (for example, TV).
7. The LCD displays Enter ID. Press OK. Enter the
first five-digit code for your device. As you enter
the code numbers, each number displays on the
LCD from right to left.
8. Press OK to confirm the code. NOTE: If you do not press OK, the remote does not

Programming a Device by Searching for Its Code
If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed for your brand, or if your brand is not listed, try searching for your code. For example, to search for a code for your TV:
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or .
2. Press OK.
3. Use the key to scroll through the LCD display
until the LCD displays Search.
4. Press OK once.
5. Press the mode key on the remote for the device
you want to program (for example, TV).
6. The LCD displays Setup CBL. Use the  keys
to select the device type you want to set up.
7. Press OK.
8. The LCD displays Press Test Key. At this point,
press the test key you would like the remote to
transmit every time it moves to the next code
during the search.
9. The remote displays the next code in the list. Use
the  keys to scroll through the codes. The LCD
displays the code for the current devices (for
example, 10000) and transmits your test function.
10. If the TV responds to your test function (for
example, POWER), press OK. The LCD displays
Success. NOTE: The remote transmits the test key you pressed
in step 8 every time the or key is pressed. If desired, within each code, any function key except the arrows, OK, and EXIT can be used for testing also.
11. The LCD displays Edit Text. This option allows
you to change the default display for this mode
from the code of the device (for example, 10000) to
a personalized display (for example, My TV).Press
OK to edit text, or press  to exit without text
editing. See steps 4-5 of “Using Text Edit” on
page 25.
12. To search for other device codes, repeat steps 1 to
12, substituting the appropriate device key.

USING MY SYSTEM MODE
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote includes a custom Home Theater mode. After the My System key is programmed, it will allow you to access four groups of remote control keys without having to change device modes.
Control Organization About Control Groups
For Home Theater programming, the remote control’s keys are grouped by type of control into the following four control groups:
Playback Group: Transport Controls
(Rewind, Play, Fast Forward, Stop, Pause, Record, Skip Forward, and Skip Back)
Audio Group: VOL, VOL, and
MUTE
Channel Group: CH, CH, TV/
VCR, Keypad (0 – 9), FAV Scan, ENTER, LAST, SLEEP, and INFO
Menu Group: Cursor Controls (Up,
Down, Left, and Right), SELECT, PAGE+, PAGE-, MENU, INFO, GUIDE, and EXIT
About Device Modes
Moreover, the above Control Groups can be used in all modes.
Factory Default Settings
At the factory, the Control Groups are assigned the following modes as default settings:

If the default settings fit your needs, you can skip programming this mode. Otherwise, perform the steps in the following section to assign device modes to the Control Groups.
PROGRAMMING MY SYSTEM MODE
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays

7. Press the mode key for the device you want to
control transport (for example, VCR). The LCD
displays Success VCR.
8. The LCD displays Menu Nav OK or . Press OK.
9. Press the mode key for the device you want to
control menu navigation (for example, CBL/SAT).
The LCD displays Success SAT.
10. When programming is complete, the LCD displays
Complete and exits the My System setup.
USING LEARNING
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote includes a Learning feature so you can add functions that are unique to your home entertainment devices (e.g.,VCR T
racking Up or Down). However, there are some
considerations
Learning Precautions
Your original remote controls must be in working
order for learning to work properly.
Learned keys are mode-specific, so each one can
store a unique function for each mode.
Learning capacity is approximately 34 to 50 keys,
depending on the code being learned.
Some keys cannot be learned: Mode keys (for
example, TV), P, and the Light bulb key.
Certain device functions are not learnable,
including multi-frequency types, some high frequency ones, and other unusual formats.

For optimum learning, avoid high levels of ambient
light such as natural sunlight or energy-efficient fluorescent lights.
NOTE: Please have your original remote controls
handy before programming learning.
Programming a Learned Key
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or  . Use the 
keys to scroll through the LCD display
until Learn is displayed. Press OK.
2. The LCD displays Add Learn OK or . Press OK.
3. The LCD displays Press Mode or .
4. Press a mode key once (i.e., TV, VCR , PVR, CBL/SAT,
CD, DVD, AUX, or AUDIO) to assign a mode to learn
onto.
5. Place the RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote head-to-
head (about 2" apart) from your original remote
control. Also locate the key (on your original
remote control) that you want the RadioShack 8-
in-1 LCD Remote to learn.

6. Press the key on your RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD
Remote that wish to assign learning.
7. On the original remote, press and hold the key.
Continue holding the key on the original remote
until the RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote’s LCD
displays either Success or Learn Fail. NOTE: Immediately after you have pressed the key
that will learn, the LED flashes rapidly and the LCD displays Learning. The remote times out after five seconds and returns to step 6.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 for another mode and/or
key or press EXIT to exit programming. Repeat
steps 5 through 7 if learning failed.
Deleting a Single Learning Key

his process returns the key to its original programmin
g for the mode you select. You can also delete learned programming by teaching a different function to the key (see “Programming a Learned Key” on page 17).
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or  . Use the  keys to scroll through the LCD display
until Learn is displayed. Press OK.
2. Use the  keys to scroll through the
LCD display until Dlt Learn is displayed. Press

Deleting All Learned Keys in a Specific Mode
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays

until Learn is displayed. Press OK.
2. Use the  keys to scroll through the LCD
display until Dlt Learn is displayed. Press OK.
3. The LCD displays Press Mode or .

SAT, CD, DVD keys for that mode.
5. The LCD displays DLT Key. Press  until the
LCD displays DLT All. Press OK.
6. The LCD displays Are U Sure OK or . Press OK.

8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 for another mode.

USING KEYMOVER
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote includes a Key mover feature that allows you to map (or copy) keys from one mode (i.e., source mode) to another mode (i.e., destination mode).
PROGRAMMING KEYMOVER
For example, if your DVD player does not have volume control, you can map those keys (i.e., VOL, VOL,
and MUTE) from the TV mode to DVD mode as follows:
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays
Code Set OK or . The remote is now in the programming mode.
2. Use the or keys to scroll through the
LCD display until Key Mover is displayed. Press OK.
3. The LCD displays Move Key. Press OK.
4. The LCD displays Press from Mode.
5. For the source mode, press a desired device key
once (i.e., AUX, CBL/SAT, CD, TV, DVD, AUDIO, VCR, or PVR). For this example, press TV once.
6. The LCD displays Press From Key. For the source

The remote allows you to store a list of up to 10 favorite channels, in any order, that are immediately scanned when you press FAV (SCAN).
NOTE: You can only store channels from one device
for Favorite Channel Scan.

CHANGING VOLUME LOCK
The RadioShack 8-in-1 LCD Remote comes preset to allow independent volume control of each selected device (Global Volume Unlock). However, you may change the Volume Lock setting to Global Volume Lock so that one device's volume controls volume in all other modes. After that, you can perform Individual Volume Unlock on a selected device to set its volume control for independent operation.
Locking Volume Control to One Mode (Global Volume Lock)
1. Press and hold P until the LCD displays

TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM: LED does not blink when you press a key. SOLUTION: Replace batteries with four (4) new AAA
alkaline batteries. PROBLEM: LED blinks when you press a key, but device
does not respond. SOLUTION: Make sure the remote is aimed at your device
and is not more than 15 feet away.
PROBLEM: LED blinks one long blink. SOLUTION: An entry error has occurred (for example,
wrong key). Try entry sequence again. PROBLEM: Remote does not control devices or
commands are not working properly. SOLUTION: Try all listed codes for the device. Make sure
the device operates with an infrared remote control.
PROBLEM: No volume on a second TV. SOLUTION: See Changing Volume Lock.
PROBLEM: Channels do not change properly. SOLUTION: If the original remote control required you to
press Enter to change channels, press Enter on this remote after entering the channel number.
