Congratulations
Congratulations on your decision to purchase the Statim Cassette Autoclave. Your Statim has been manufactured with skill and care from the finest materials and will give you years of reliable, efficient and fast sterilisation procedures.
It is important, however, to use the Statim according to the instructions for use (in the operators manual) and we hope this supplemental guidance document will also be helpful.
General Usage
Opening and closing the Cassette
Place your thumbs on the thumb pads, push down, pulling up with forefingers until the lid opens.
3
Set up Waste Bottle
Fill this bottle with water to the minimum level and set it on, or close to the floor or inside the cabinet. If enclosed in a cabinet the humidity will rise due to condensation. Ensure sufficient length of tubing for easy mobility of the bottle.
1
Level your Statim
To ensure the unit drains properly, adjust leveller feet so that the level indicator is in the front right quadrant (4 o’clock position) of the target...not in the centre.
This will increase removal of moisture from the chamber and enhance drying.

Inserting the Cassette
If you are going to run a sterilisation cycle immediately, gently push the cassette inward until you hear a click: then select the cycle. Never force or slam the cassette into the Statim – this could damage the interior components. If not running a cycle immediately, insert the cassette until it is secure but does not ‘click’ (see Statim S picture below).
Hold the cassette handle in one hand and support the cassette with the other. Gently place the end of the cassette into the Statim unit.

Statim 2000S
Statim 5000S
Hold the cassette handle in one hand and the carry handle in the other. Gently place the end of the cassette into the unit and drop the carry handle into its closed position.
Plate positions for full load (10 bags)
Plate positions for half load (5 bags)
Loading pouched instruments
When loading pouched instruments it is important that: pouches are placed with the transparent plastic side up, that they do not touch each other and they do not touch the walls of the cassette tray.
STAT-DRI Plates (Statim 5000S only) – use of the aluminium Stat-Dri plates will dry pouches much faster; they should be ‘clicked’ onto the stainless steel grid within the cassette. Pouch ends may overlap.

Validation
Following the recent Dental Hygiene Guidelines (2006) from the RKI in Berlin, SciCan recommends the following procedure for the daily validation of the Statim Cassette Autoclave.
At the beginning of each day it is recommended to include the test Helix (only a Statim Helix, 01-108341, should be used) in an empty cycle without drying. The most challenging cycle should be selected: hollow, wrapped cycle of 3.30 minutes at 134ºC. This will provide peace of mind that hollow instruments, such as handpieces, are being sterilised internally and externally. If the result shows that sterilisation has been achieved it is then only necessary to include an emulator with each successive cycle during that day. This process is repeated daily.
Should the result of this initial daily Helix test be negative, it should be repeated. If it is still negative, the instruments should be quarantined and a service call out should be made.
Similarly, should an emulator in any successive cycle show a negative result, the instruments should not be used and a service call should be made.
Statim Cassette Autoclaves and loads have been microbiologically tested according to EN14937. These tests show that semi-critical and critical instruments such as dental handpieces, ophthalmic phaco handpieces and rigid endoscopes can be sterilised wrapped or unwrapped.
Please note:
Statim units manufactured before mid 2004 are not suitable to be validated daily with the Statim Helix. Please check with your local SciCan dealer whether they could be retrofitted.

Wrapped instruments
For optimal drying performance of wrapped instruments, the maintenance of clean microbiological and compressor filters as well as the use of Stat-Dri plates (Statim 5000S only) and spray are recommended.
Drying performance
Coat cassette
After cleaning and drying the cassette, the interior surfaces of the tray and lid should be sprayed with Stat-Dri Plus every five to six cycles. This reduces surface tension and enhances the evaporation process.
Unwrapped instruments
Instruments dry due to evaporation within one or two minutes after being removed from the cassette.

Unwrapped Cycle
This cycle is used to sterilise light loads of solid or hollow instruments which are suitable for steam sterilisation at 134ºC. Pressing the Unwrapped Button (see icon below) several times will select the desired programme and automatically save it for the next cycle.
Understanding the Statim Cycles
Wrapped Cycle
This cycle is used to sterilise solid or hollow instruments which are suitable for steam sterilisation at 134ºC and have been sealed in paper or paper and plastic autoclave bags manufactured in accordance to EN868. To select this cycle, press the Wrapped Cycle button, then press the START button.
Rubber and Plastics Cycle
This cycle is used to sterilise solid or hollow unwrapped instruments which are not suitable for sterilisation at above 121ºC. Pressing the Rubber & Plastic Button (see icon below) several times will select the desired programme and automatically save it for the next cycle.
Air Drying Cycle
If pouched instruments are still wet at the end of the selected cycle, the Air Drying Cycle can be selected for additional drying time. To select this cycle, press the Air Drying Cycle button, then press the START button.

Easy to use and maintain
Very simple keypad operation and helpful LED display prompts makes Statim S-cycle cassette autoclaves easy to use and user friendly. Statim is also selfdiagnosing – if a problem occurs it will immediately be indicated on the electronic display panel... very reassuring.

Ophthalmology Guideline
Proper wrapping or pouching of surgical
instruments will reduce their exposure to any
process residues during the sterilisation cycle.
Drain the reservoir at the end of each day, leave
empty, and refill it with fresh distilled water at the
start of the next workday.
Cassette • May be cleaned daily with washing up liquid and a scrub pad. Then rinse with clean water before use
Water Reservoir • It is advisable to replace water daily. Always use steam distilled water
• For Ophthalmic use, drain at the end of every workday, leave empty, and refill at the start of the next workday
Waste Bottle • Empty the waste bottle every time you refill the water reservoir
• Fill the bottle with water, up to the MIN line marking. You may also add some chlorine-free disinfectant
Cassette • Wash the interior of the cassette with dishwashing soap or a mild detergent that does not contain chlorine
• Scrub the inside with a soft cleaning pad
• After removing all traces of the detergent, treat interior surfaces of the cassete with the Stat-Dri Plus drying agent to enhance the drying process.
Water Reservoir • Check the water reservoir filter every week and clean if necessary. Filter* (01-109300S) (Replace only if necessary)
Biological Filter • Replace every 500 cycles or six months (whichever is first) or it will (01-102119S) affect airflow and drying performance. Call for service if wet.
Cassette Seal • Replace every 500 cycles or six months (whichever is first), or 01-100028S (2000S) whenever necessary 01-101649S (5000S)
Compressor Filter ** • Replace every 500 cycles or six months (whichever is first) (Statim 2000S only) 01-100207S (2000S) 01-101652S (5000S prior to 2005)
* This filter is fitted to Statim autoclaves manufactured from October 2006 only. It can be retrofitted to older models by ordering 01-101783S. ** Also Statim 5000S units manufactured before 2005.
