Never watch the DVD playback, or try to adjust settings while driving!
Doing so may case a traffic accident. To avoid such danger, be sure to stop the vehicle in a safe area before operating the unit.
How to handle the LCD panel
Do not press hard or jolt the LCD panel. It may cause the LCD panel glass to break and injury may occur. If the LCD panel is broken, make absolutely sure that you do not touch liquid in the panel. This may cause skin inflammation. If the liquid gets in your mouth, immediately gargle and consult with your doctor. Also, if the liquid gets in your eyes or touches your skin, consult with your doctor after rising for at least 15 minutes or longer in clean water.
PRECAUTIONS
The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing.
No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus.
Do not use where there are extremes of temperature (below 5°C or exceeding 35°C) or where direct sunlight may strike it.
Because of the DVD player’s extremely low noise and wide dynamic range, there might be a tendency to set the volume on the amplifier unnecessarily high. Doing so may produce an excessively large output from the amplifier which could damage your speakers.
Sudden changes in the ambient temperature may cause condensation to form on the optical lens inside the unit. If this happens, take out the disc, leave the unit for about 2 hours, and then proceed to operate.
Do not install this equipment in a confined space, such as a book case or built in cabinet.
Do not place the unit on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table to prevent it from falling.
Keep the unit away from strong magnets, heating sources, sunlight, excessive dust.
Do not place any object on the top of the unit. The cabinet of the unit warms up when it is used for a long time, but it is not a malfunction.
The rating label is located on the bottom of the unit.
Either the main unit or remote control can be operated. However, for convenience, this instruction manual explains operation using the remote control.

Before using the remote control
There is Lithium battery (CR 2025) in the remote control. Before using the remote control for the first time, pull out the plastic sheet from the bottom of the remote control.

To replace the battery
1. Hook your fingernail on (a) and (b) as in the diagram, and pull the battery holder out while pressing (a) in the direction indicated by the arrow.
2. Remove the old battery, and insert a new battery (Lithium battery, CR 2025) in the battery holder with the + side up.
3. Push the battery holder into the remote control.
Notes:
Under normal usage, the battery will last from 6 months to a year. However, the attached battery is for confirming operation of the remote control, so the battery life could be shorter. If it becomes difficult to operate, please replace the battery.
Remover the battery if the remote control is not to be used for a month or more. Battery left in the remote control may leak and cause damage.
When the battery has become discharged, it must be disposed of in a safe manner that complies with all applicable laws.
WARNING:
Keep battery out of the reach of children.
If a battery is swallowed, consult with a doctor immediately.
Do not heat, dismantle or throw a battery in a fire.
Do not short out a battery.
CAUTION:
Insert as indicated by the (+) sign.
Do not use a battery other than the one specified.
If liquid leaks out of the battery…
Wipe off the liquid well.
If the liquid touches your skin or clothes, wash off with plenty of water.
CAUTION:
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

POWER SUPPLIES
Before connecting the supplied AC adaptor or cigarette lighter adaptor, set the POWER switch of the unit to the OFF position first.
Using AC adaptor
Connect the supplied AC adaptor.
To an AC outlet.

Note:
If the unit will not be used for a long time, disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC outlet.
During use the AC adaptor becomes warm. This is not a malfunction.
CAUTION:
Use this unit only the supplied AC adaptor. Use with other AC adaptors could damage the unit.
Do not touch the AC adaptor with wet hands. Doing so is dangerous, as this could result in an electric shock.
Do not use with a voltage other than the power voltage displayed. This could cause fire, electrical shock, or damage.
If you need to replace the supplied AC adapter, the specified one is requested. In this case, please contact a Sanyo Authorized Service Station.
Using cigarette lighter adaptor
Connect the supplied cigarette lighter adaptor.

Traffic safety:
Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas.
You should use extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
CAUTION:
The unit’s cabinet may warp or the unit may otherwise be damaged if it is placed in direct sunlight, near heaters or in cars with the windows closed.
Caution on the cigarette lighter adaptor:
The supplied cigarette lighter adaptor is designed for use with vehicles that have a 12V, negative ground electrical system.
Use only the supplied cigarette lighter adaptor. Using other cigarette lighter adaptors could damage the unit.
When the inside of the cigarette lighter socket is dirty with ashes or dust, the plug section may become hot due to poor contact. Be sure to clean the cigarette lighter socket before use.
After use, disconnect the cigarette lighter adaptor plugs from both this unit and the cigarette lighter socket.
The cigarette lighter adaptor may cause interference with reception from the car radio or another radio inside the vehicle. If this is the case, disconnect the cigarette lighter adaptor from the cigarette lighter socket, or use the radio at a distance from the cigarette lighter adaptor.
Do not block ventilation holes.
Disconnect the cigarette lighter adaptor from the cigarette lighter socket after use.

Fuse replacement
When the cigarette lighter adaptor does not operate, check to see if the fuse has blown. If the fuse has blown, try to determine the cause, then replace the fuse according to the following procedure.
1. Disconnect the cigarette lighter plug from the cigarette lighter socket.
2. Turn the end portion of the plug and remove.
3. Remove the blown fuse.
4. Put in a new 1.5A fuse.
5. Turn the end portion of the plug and tighten.

Replace the fuse with one of the same rating.
If the fuse blows again after replacement, contact the store where you purchased the unit, or contact a Sanyo Authorized Service Station.

To charge the built-in rechargeable battery (Lithium Ion Battery)
1. Set the POWER switch of the unit to the OFF position first.
2. Connect the supplied AC adaptor or cigarette lighter adaptor. The CHARGE indicator lights.
After approx. 3 hours, the battery is fully charged. The CHARGE indicator goes out. The unit operates approx. 2 hours 20 minutes depending on the playing conditions.
Notes:
If the POWER switch is set to the ON position, the rechargeable battery is not charged.
When using the rechargeable battery for playback, disconnect the adaptor from the unit.
CAUTION:
This unit contains an internal Lithium Ion Battery. The battery or the unit should not be disposed of in a fire. The battery or the unit should not be thrown in the trash. The battery or the unit may require recycling in accordance with local laws. Contact your local regulatory authorities for more information.

ADDITIONAL CONNECTION EXAMPLES
Headphones socket ( )
Connect stereo headphones to the headphones socket ( ) for monitoring or for private listening. The built-in speakers are automatically disconnected when headphones are connected.
CAUTION:
High volume levels can create potentially dangerous situations by drowning out surrounding sounds. Do not use while operating a motorized vehicle. Do not play your headphones at a high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use.
Audio output socket (AUDIO)
Connect the audio plug (Black) of the audio/video cable (supplied) to the AUDIO socket of the unit, and then connect the audio plugs (Red, and White) to the audio input sockets of the audio/ video equipment. Please refer to your audio/video equipment’s owners manual.
Video output socket (VIDEO)
Connect the video plug (Yellow) of the audio/ video cable (supplied) to the VIDEO socket of the unit, and then connect the video plug (Yellow) to the video input socket of the audio/video equipment. Please refer to your audio/video equipment’s owners manual. Please select “NTSC” or “PAL” in “TV Type” on page 18.
Coaxial digital audio output socket (COAXIAL)
Connect the coaxial digital audio cable (not supplied) to the COAXIAL socket of the unit and other end to the digital audio input socket of digital amplifier (not supplied). Please refer to your digital amplifier’s owners manual.

PLAYABLE DISCS
The following types of discs can be played on this unit.

Region number (Regional restriction code) is built­in to the unit and DVD discs. There is a region number on the bottom of the unit. The same region number or region number “ALL” of DVD discs can be used on this unit.

Note:
Only the above types of discs can be played on this unit. DVD-Audio, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW (VR mode), CD-ROM, CVD, SACD, etc. cannot be played.
Some DVD-R, DVD-RW (Video mode), DVD+R, and DVD+RW discs can be played.

Notes on handling discs
Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight, high humidity or high temperatures for extended periods of time.
Discs should be returned to their cases after use.
Do not apply paper or write anything on the disc surface.
Handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the playing surface (glossy side).
Fingerprints and dust should be carefully wiped off the playing surface of the disc with a soft cloth. Wipe in a straight motion from the centre to the outside of the disc.
Never use chemicals such as record cleaning sprays, antistatic sprays or fluids, benzene or thinner to clean discs.

BEFORE OPERATION
DISC PLAYBACK
Turning the power on and off
Set the POWER switch to the ON position.
The POWER indicator lights. To turn off the power, set the POWER switch to the OFF position.
Adjusting the volume
Adjust the VOLUME control as desired.
Selecting the screen size
Press the SCREEN MODE button repeatedly to select the desired screen size. Note: This button doesn’t change the video output signal from the VIDEO socket.
Adjusting the display brightness
Adjust the BRIGHTNESS control as desired.
Important note:
Some DVD discs have different functions that may not be explained in this instruction manual. You may need extra instructions. In this case, please follow the instructions displayed on the screen or jacket or case of the disc.
The disc information takes priority in various setting.

” may appear on the screen during operation. This icon means that the function is not available on the disc now.
In this instruction manual, the language in on-screen display is English. If you changed the language, please follow the selected language in on-screen display.
The screen shown as an example in this manual may be different from the actual screen.
For improvement, on-screen displays subject to change without notice.
Preparations
1. Turn on the power.
2. Open the LCD panel with your thumb.
3. Slide the OPEN button to the right, and open the disc cover. “Open” appears on the screen.
Note: If you use the unit for the first time, remove the protection card.
4. Place the disc (label facing up) on the disc turntable, and push the disc gently until it is clicked.

5. Close the disc cover. “Loading” appears on the screen. Note: Some discs may start play automatically.

Starting play
Press the PLAY a button.
VARIOUS DISC PLAYING FUNCTIONS
If a menu appears on the screen...
Press the 4, a, 5 or b button (or the number buttons) to select the menu, then press the ENTER button (or the a OK button on the unit). Playback of the selected menu starts. Note: For more details, please refer to the jacket or case of the disc.
Stopping play
Press the STOP n button once. “Press PLAY Key to Continue” appears. When you press the PLAY a button (or the a OK button on the unit), play starts automatically from the point where you stopped. “a” appears briefly. Note: Some discs may not resume play.
Press the STOP n button twice. The unit stops completely. When you press the PLAY a button (or the a OK button on the unit), play starts from the beginning of the disc.
Removing a disc
1. Slide the OPEN button to the right, and open the disc cover.
Note: If the disc is rotating, wait until it stops.
2. Remove the disc.
3. Close the disc cover.
Either the main unit or remote control can be operated. However, for convenience, this instruction manual explains operation using the remote control.
“ ” may appear on the TV screen during operation. This icon means that the function is not available on the disc now.
Selecting a DVD menu [DVD]
1. Press the MENU button during play. “Root Menu” appears briefly. The DVD menu screen appears.
2. Press the 4, 5, b or a button (or the number buttons) to select the desired menu, then press the ENTER button. The selected menu play starts.
Note: Selecting a menu operation may differ depending on the disc used and may not be possible on some discs.
Return button (RETURN) [DVD]
Normally, it returns to the previous menu when the RETURN button is pressed during play. Note: The operation differs according to the content of the disc.
Chapter (Track) skip
Skipping forward
Press the SKIP+ e button (or the NEXT e button on the unit) during play to skip to the next chapter (or track). A chapter (or track) is skipped each time the button is pressed.
Skipping backward
Press the SKIP- f button (or the PREVIOUS f button on the unit) during play to skip back to
the beginning of the chapter (or track) currently played. Press the button again immediately to skip back to the beginning of the previous chapter (or track).

Chapter search [DVD]
Press the number buttons to enter the chapter number during play. Example: To select No. 6, press 0, then 6. To select No. 10, press 1, then 0.
Selected chapter number
Play starts from the selected chapter.
Fast play
Press the FF c or REW d button repeatedly to select the fast speed forward or reverse play during play. The display changes as follows:

Designated range repeat play (A-B Repeat)
Selecting the desired camera angle [DVD]
1. Press the A-B button during play at the beginning of the section you want to repeat (Point A). “
2. Press the A-B button again at the end of the section (Point B). “ The section between points A and B is played repeatedly.
3. To return to normal play, press the A-B button again. “Repeat Off” appears briefly.
Note: Repeat play or A-B repeat play mode may not work correctly with some discs.

Picture zoom [DVD]
1. Press the ZOOM button during normal/slow or still play.
Each time the button is pressed, the zoom
mode will be changed as follows:

3. Press the ZOOM button repeatedly to return to the original screen.
Note: Picture zoom may not work on some discs.
In the case of a DVD disc (multi angle) that contains scenes shot simultaneously from multiple camera angles, it is possible to select the desired camera angle.
Press the ANGLE button repeatedly during play until the desired angle appears. Example:

Selecting audio soundtrack language [DVD]
Hello!
This operation works only with discs on which multiple audio soundtrack languages are recorded.
Press the AUDIO button repeatedly during play until the desired language appears on the screen. Example:
Note:
When the desired language is not selected even if the button is pressed, the language is not available on the disc.
When the power is turned on or the disc is replaced, select the language again.
If the language is not recorded on the disc, only the available language on the disc will be heard.

Changing the audio channel output [CD]
During audio CD play, press the AUDIO button repeatedly to select an audio channel. “Left Mono”, “Right Mono” or “Stereo” appears.
Selecting subtitle language [DVD]
This operation works only with discs on which multiple subtitle languages are recorded.
Press the SUBTITLE button repeatedly during play until the desired subtitle language appears on the screen. Example:

Press the DISPLAY button to show the disc information (Title, Chapter, Title elapsed playing time, etc.). Each time the button is pressed, the display changes as follows:

Note:
In some cases, the subtitle language is not changed to the selected one.
When a disc supporting closed caption is played, the subtitle and the closed caption may overlap each other on the screen. In this case, turn the subtitle off.
When the desired language is not selected even if the button is pressed, the language is not available on the disc.
When the power is turned on or the disc is replaced, select the subtitle language again.
If the subtitle language is not necessary, press the SUBTITLE button to select “Subtitle Off”.

MP3 CD OPERATION
Before starting
This unit can play back the CD that has recorded music data, MP3 files.
The file system is ISO9660.
If the CD has both audio CD tracks and MP3 files, only MP3 files are played.
It would take 1 minute or more for this unit to read MP3 files depending on its structure.
This unit can recognize up to 256 files or folders per disc. The CD with 257 files or folders and over is not available to this unit.
MP3 CDs may not be played in the recorded order.
1. Please use the MP3 software with the
function that can record data alphabetically or numerically.
2. Please refrain from making many sub-
folders by preference.
However, some CD-R/RWs and MP3 CDs cannot be played back depending on the recording conditions. Before playing back MP3 files, please read the following.
MP3 CD
MP3 files must have the extension letters, “.MP3” or “.mp3”.
Standard, sampling frequency, and the bit rate: MPEG Audio Layer 3
44.1kHz, 48kHz 32kbps ~ 320kbps (constant bit rate or variable bit rate)
The recommend recording setting for a high­quality sound is 44.1kHz of sampling frequency and 128kbps of constant bit rate.
Limitations on display
Available letters for display are the following: capital or small alphabets of A through Z, “_” (underbar), “-” (hyphen), and numbers of 0 through 9.
Note:
The CD has no music data or non-MP3 files cannot be played back.
The WMA files cannot be played back.
MP3 CD play
1. Load the MP3 CD with the label facing up. (See “Preparations” on page 9.) A folder list appears on the screen. Example:

to display a table of contents in the selected folder.
To go back to the original folder from the
sub-folder, press the b button.

To stop play, press the STOP n button.
If the disc is mixed with MP3 and JPEG files…
If you start from the MP3 file, the unit plays MP3 files. The JPEG files are automatically skipped.
If you start from the JPEG file, the unit plays the JPEG files. The MP3 files are automatically skipped.

Press the PAUSE k button during play. “k” appears on the screen. Note: The sound is muted.
Press the PLAY a button to return to normal play.
File skip
Skipping forward

JPEG CD OPERATION
You can view digital images from JPEG files.
The file system is ISO9660.
If the CD has both audio CD tracks and JPEG files, only JPEG files are played.
It would take 1 minute or more for this unit to read JPEG files depending on its structure.
This unit can recognize up to 256 files or folders per disc. The CD with 257 files or folders and over is not available to this unit.
JPEG CDs may not be played in the recorded order.
JPEG files must have the extension letters, “.JPG” or “.jpg”.
JPEG resolution is up to 3072 x 2048.
JPEG CDs cannot be played back depending on the recording conditions.
JPEG CD play
1. Load the JPEG CD with the label facing up. (See “Preparations” on page 9.) A folder list appears on the screen. Example:

Press the PLAY a button to return to normal play.
Repeat play
Press the REPEAT button during play. Each time the button is pressed, the repeat mode changes as follows:

4. Press the ENTER or PLAY a button to start the slide show from the selected file.
The file list appears after the last file has displayed.
To stop the slide show, press the STOP n button. The thumbnail picture screen appears. Example:

Start the slide show.
“Help”:
It shows the function of the remote control.
b Prev”:
It skips to the previous thumbnail picture screen.
“Next a”:
It skips to the next thumbnail picture
screen. Press the direction (4, a, 5 or b) button to select the item, and then press the ENTER button.
To start the slide show again from the thumbnail picture screen, press the 4, a, 5 or b button to select the picture, and then press the ENTER or PLAY a button.
To return to the folder list, press the MENU button.
Pause
Press the PAUSE k button during the slide show. “k” appears on the screen. Press the ENTER or PLAY a button to resume the slide show.
File skip
Press the SKIP+ e or SKIP- f button (or the NEXT e or PREVIOUS f button on the unit) during the slide show. It skips to the next picture or previous picture. Note: You can skip only within the selected folder.
Repeat play
Press the REPEAT button during the slide show (or at the folder list). Each time the button is pressed, the repeat mode changes as follows:
“Repeat One”:
Repeat of the picture being played
“Repeat All” or “Repeat Folder”:
Repeat all pictures
“Repeat Off”:
Repeat off mode
Picture zoom
1. Press the ZOOM button during the slide show or pause mode. “ZOOM 100%” appears.
2. Press the FF c or REW d button repeatedly. “ZOOM 200%” ~ “ZOOM 50%” appears (6 steps).
Press the 4, a, 5 or b button to select the
zoom point (at “ZOOM 125% ~ 200%”).
3. To return to the original screen, press the ZOOM button again.
If the picture appears upside down or sideways...
1. Press the PAUSE k button, if necessary.
2. Press the 4, a, 5 or b button repeatedly as desired.
b: “Rotate Counterclockwise” appears. a: “Rotate Clockwise” appears. 4: “Invert” appears. 5: “Mirror” appears.
Changing how to display pictures
Press the DISPLAY button during play or pause mode. Each time the button is pressed, the display method changes.

INITIAL SETTINGS
Once the initial settings have been completed, the unit can always be operated under the same conditions. The settings will be retained in the memory until they are changed, even if the power is turned off.
In this instruction manual, the language in on-screen display is English. If you changed the language, please follow the selected language in on-screen display.
For improvement, on-screen displays subject to change without notice.
TV Display
(When connecting to your TV, and setting for your TV screen size)
Normal/PS (Panscan): Select when a conventional TV set is connected. When the wide screen disc is played, it displays pictures cropped to fill your TV screen. The left and right edges are cut off.

Setting “General Setup Page”
1. Press the SETUP button. The setup screen and “General Setup Page” appear. Note: To close the setup screen, press the SETUP button.
2. Press the ENTER or 5 button. “SPDIF Output” is highlighted.
3. Press the 5 or 4 button to select the menu.
SPDIF:
(Digital audio output signal from the COAXIAL socket)
SPDIF/OFF: No signal from the COAXIAL socket
SPDIF/RAW: When connecting to an Amplifier with Dolby Digital Decoder
SPDIF/PCM: When connecting to a Digital Amplifier
Normal/LB (Letterbox): Select when a conventional TV set is connected. When the wide screen disc is played, the black bands appear at the top and bottom of screen.
WIDE: Select when a wide screen TV set is connected. Played in “FULL” size. (Setting the wide screen TV to “FULL” mode is also necessary.)
Note:
The screen size may differ depending on the DVD discs.
If you select “WIDE” to get rid of the black bands on screen when wide screen disc is played, picture may be slightly distorted.
In some discs, even if “Normal/PS” is selected, the black bands may remain on the screen.

TV Type:
When connecting the TV for PAL system to the VIDEO socket of the unit, select “PAL”. (In Europe, TV for PAL system is commonly used.) The colour screen appears on the TV. The LCD (screen) of the unit is changed to Black & White, and may be distorted when selecting “PAL”. This is not a malfunction. Switch to “NTSC” when using the LCD of the unit.
Angle Mark:
Display the angle mark when a DVD disc (multi angle) is played back.
OSD Language:
Select on-screen display language.
Memory:
If you open the disc cover during playback, and close the disc cover, this function (Memory: ON) resumes playback from the point where you stopped. Note: If the POWER switch is set to the OFF position, the memory is released.
4. Press the a button to select the sub menu.
5. Press the 5 or 4 button to select the item of the sub menu (highlighted) as desired.
6. Press the ENTER button.

WARNING:
For your personal safety, before proceeding with any maintenance or cleaning, set the unit as follows:
Disconnect the AC adaptor or Cigarette lighter adaptor from the unit.
Set the POWER switch to the OFF position.
Cleaning the cabinet
Use a clean soft cloth moistened with plain lukewarm water and wrung dry. Never use benzol, benzene or other strong chemical cleaners since these could damage the finish of your unit. It is important that no liquid reaches the inside of the unit.

Sanyo Europe Ltd. (the Company) guarantees to the initial retail purchaser that if this equipment is or becomes defective and that, in the opinion of the Company, the defect is due to faulty material or workmanship the Company will, for a period of 12 calendar months from the date of sale to the original purchaser repair or replace, at its sole option, free of charge, any such defective component part of the equipment, always provided that: -
1. The equipment has at all times been used in accordance with the operating instructions issued by the Company, and has not been connected to an electrical mains supply for which it has not been adjusted.
2. Accidental damage, or damage caused by negligence or misuse by the user, including leakage from exhausted batteries, is specifically excluded.
3. Unauthorised repairs, or any modification to the equipment which has not been expressly approved by the Company, shall render this guarantee null and void.
