RFGAINCONTROL
Thiscontroladjuststhereceiver's Sensitivity.ForLW,MWSWreception rotatethecontroltotheMAXposition, thisprovidesthemaximumsensitivity. whenyoulistentotheMW,standard aMband,orLWbandthroughexternal antenna,rotatethecontrolonlyasfaras neededtoobtainagoodsignal.Ifyou turntheknobfurtheryoumightheara distortedsignal.Forweakstations, rotatethecontroltotheMAXposition.
AMNARROW/WIDE SELECTIVITYSWITCH
Somestationstransmittheirsignalsothat verylittlespaceexistsbetweentheir airspaceandthestationnexttothemonthe band.If,whiletuning,youencounter interference,causedbythesignalfroman adjacentstation,pressthebuttonforthe bandyouarelisteningtoandselectthe NARROWposition.Theinterferenceis reducedormuted.
Forfullreception,leavetheswitchinthe WIDEposition.
Ifyouencounterinterference,adjustthe controlin bothdirectionsuntilyouobtain thebestcompromisebetweenyourstation andtheinterference.
IfyouplantolistentoMorsecode,referred toasCW(continuouswave),settheBFO switchtoONposition.Ifyouencounter toomuchnoiseasyoutune,settheAM NARROW/WIDEswitchtoNARROW position.

HEADPHONEUSE
LOCKSWITCHUSE
Whilenotacontrol,youmayconsiderusing HEADPHONEStoobtainthebestaudio claritywhenlisteningtoSW.Sincemany SWstationsbroadcastonlymarginal signals,usingHEADPHONESwillenable youtodistinguishbetweenthesignaland thenoiseusuallyencounteredatnight.Be surethattheHEADPHONESterminateina 1/8inchplug,whichisinsertedintothe HEADPHONEjacklocatedontheleftside oftheradio,markedwithsymbol WhentheHEADPHONESarepluggedin, thespeakerismuted.
UsingtheLOCKSwitchprevents unauthorizedoperationoftheradioandwill alsopreventthestationyouarelisteningto frombeingchanged.WhentheLOCK switchismovedtoitsupposition,the POWERbuttonandTUNINGcontrolsare completelydisabled.Iftheradioisonwhen theLOCKswitchismovedtoitsup position,youwillnotbeabletoturnitoff. Iftheradioisoff,withtheLOCKSwitchin itsupposition,youwillnotbeableto turniton.Thiswillalsopreventitfrombeing turnedonbyaccident,whenpackedina attachecase.ToreleasetheLOCKSwitch, simplymovetheswitchdown.
Becausetheradioiscapableofreceiving FMmultiplexstereo,StereoHEADPHONES Shouldbeused.Whenlisteningtostereo FM,besurethattheFM:STEREO/MONO switchissettotheSTEREOposition.
