Battery Cover

The battery, SIM card and SD card are installed under the battery cover.
Important!
Before removing or replacing the battery cover, make sure the phone is switched off. To turn the phone off, hold down the powe

1. Hold the device firmly and locate the cover release

2. Place your fingernail in the opening and firmly “pop”

Installing the Battery
1. Slide the battery into the compartment (1) so that the
tabs on the end align with the slots at the bottom of the phone, making sure the connectors align.
2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2).

The SIM card and its information can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, inserting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children.
This card contains the necessary information for identifying and authenticating the user to the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). If available, you can remove the previous SIM and replace it with the new one.

Installing and Removing the SIM Card
To install the SIM card:
1. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket
until the card clicks into place.
2. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the
device and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown.
To remove the SIM card:
1. Remove the battery cover.
2. Carefully place your fingernail into the end of the SIM
slot and push the card slightly out.
3. Carefully slide the SIM card out of the SIM card socket.
Note:
If the card is not inserted correctly, the device will not detect it and no service will be available. If this happens, turn off the device, remove the card, and reinstall the card in the correct orientation.

Installing the microSD Memory Card

Your phone supports an optional (external) microSD™ or microSDHC media such as music, pictures, video and other files. The SD card is designed for use with this mobile phone and other devices.

The microSD memory card includes capacities of up to 2GB. The microSDHC memory card can range from 4GB to up to 32GB.
1. Locate the microSD card slot on the side of the device
and carefully remove the microSD card slot cover.
2. Orient the card with the gold strips facing down.
3. Firmly press the card into the slot and make sure that it
catches with the push-click insertion. For more information on how to use the SD card see “Memory Card Details” on page 161.
4. Place the cover securely back over the slot.

Removing the microSD Memory Card
1. Locate the microSD card slot on the side of the device
and carefully remove the microSD card slot cover.
2. Firmly press the card into the slot and release it. The
card should pop partially out of the slot.
3. Remove the card from the slot.
4. Place the cover securely back over the slot.

Charging a Battery

Your phone is powered by a rechargeable Lithium ion battery. A wall charger, which is used for charging the battery, is included with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details.
You can use the phone while the battery is charging, but doing so requires additional charging time.
Note:
You must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approximately 4 hours.
1. With the battery installed, temporarily remove the
plastic cover on the left side of the phone (as indicated) and plug in the wall charger’s connector into the jack.

Verify that the handset battery is installed prior to
connecting the wall charger. If the battery is not
installed and the wall charger is connected, the
handset power cycles continuously, preventing
proper operation.

Low Battery Indicator
When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain; a warning tone sounds and the “Low battery” message repeats at regular intervals on the display. In this condition, your phone conserves its remaining battery power, not by turning off the backlight, but by entering the dimming mode.
When the battery level becomes too low, the phone automatically turns off.

Setting Up Your Voice Mail Visual Voicemail

Your display screen provides a wealth of information about the phone’s status and options. The display has 3 areas:
Display
Your phone has a display on the front of the phone which indicates when you have an incoming call or message. It also alerts you at a specified time when an alarm was set by turning on the backlight and displaying a corresponding icon on the screen.
The display shows the current time and date.
Widget Bar
The Widget bar provides quick access to the items you use most frequently (Analog clock, Bluetooth, Bookmarks, Calendar, Memo, Message Inbox, Photos, Today, Videos, and Widget Memo).
Function Categories
Function categories are also shortcuts to the Dialer (for dialing a number), Contacts (accessing the Contacts), and Menu (displays the icons for application access).

Indicator Icons
This list identifies the indicator icons that appear on your phone’s display screen.
Displays the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal.
Displays when you are out of your service area.
Displays the level of your battery. The more bars you see, the more power you have remaining.
Displays while connecting to the 3G network.
Displays while your phone synchronizes with the computer.
Displays when a new text message is received.
Displays when a new voice mail is received.

A backlight illuminates the internal display and the keypad. When you press any key, the backlight turns on. The backlight turns off when no keys are pressed or pressed within a given period of time, depending on the menu setting. The display turns off after one minute to conserve battery power.

The Home screen is the starting point for using the applications or widgets on your phone. Home consists of five workspaces that extend to the right and left beyond the initial display width to provide space for docking widgets, folders, shortcuts or applications.
Slide your finger left and right on the screen to view the Home screens.
Note:
A five-part indicator at the top of the workspace shows you which workspace is active.
Customizing the Home Screen
You can customize the Home screen by docking widgets on different panels of the Home screen, or selecting a new wallpaper so you can easily distinguish between each of the individual panels.

Menu Navigation

You can tailor the phone’s range of functions to your needs using menus and sub-menus. Menus and sub-menus can be accessed by scrolling using the Navigation keys or by using the shortcuts.
Opening an Application
The Home screen is the first screen displayed. The Main Functions menu displays after you select the Menu icon.
To open an application from the Main Functions menu:

Using the touch screen display and the keys, you can navigate the features of your phone and enter characters. The following conventions are used in this manual to describe the navigation action in the procedures.
Accessing a Menu Function by Scrolling
As you navigate through a menu, options display on the screen as scrollable lists.
To navigate a scrollable list:
1. From the Home screen, press

Gently touch an entry to activate it.
Firmly touch and slide your finger up or down the screen to scroll through lists of menu items. Scrolling requires a more firm touch on the screen than the gentle touch required to open menu items.
