battery, and optional memory card, then charge the battery
to begin using your phone.
Tip: Your SIM card is preinstalled. For more information, refer
to “SIM Card” on page 10.
Note: A memory card is not included with your phone.
Memory cards are sold separately.
Back Cover
The battery, SIM card, and optional memory card are
installed under a removable cover on the back of the phone.
Note: The battery cover is flexible. Take care to avoid bending
or twisting the cover when removing and installing, to prevent damage to the cover.
9
Remove the battery cover
Pull up using the slot provided (1), while lifting the
cover off the phone (2).
Install the battery cover
Align the cover and press it firmly into place, making
sure it snaps into place.
SIM Card
Your phone uses a 4G LTE SIM (Subscriber Identity Module). The 4G LTE SIM is a small, rectangular plastic card that stores your phone number, information about your wireless service, and other information such as messages.
The SIM card is installed under the back cover, and must remain in the device when in use.
Note: If you purchased your phone at a Verizon Wireless store,
the SIM card is activated and ready to use. If you ordered a new phone, the card may need to be activated before you can use it. For more information about activating the SIM card, visit:
verizonwireless.com/4GSIM.
Caution! Turn the phone off before installing or removing the
SIM card. Do not bend or scratch the SIM card. Take care when handling, installing, or removing the SIM card, and avoid exposing the SIM card to static electricity, water, or dirt. Keep the SIM card out of reach of small children.
Installing the 4G LTE SIM Card
1. Remove the back cover.
2. With the Verizon Wireless logo facing up, carefully
insert the 4G LTE SIM Card into the slot, pressing gently until it clicks into place.
3. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the
phone and that the upper-left angled corner of the card is positioned as shown.
4. Install the back cover.
Note: If the card is not inserted correctly, the phone will not
detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot if the SIM is not detected.
Getting Started 10
Installing the Battery
1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the
phone, making sure the connectors align (1).
2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2).
Installing the Memory Card
You can use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to add
additional memory space to your device.
Note: Your phone has been tested to support up to a 64GB
memory card.
11
With the gold contacts facing down, slide the memory
card into the slot and gently push it into place.
For more information on Memory Cards, see “Memory Card” on page 43.

Charging the Battery

Your phone is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion battery. A Wall/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) is included with the phone, for charging the battery.
The battery comes partially charged. You must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time. After the first charge, you can use the phone while charging.
Warning! Use only Samsung-approved charging devices and
batteries. Samsung accessories are designed to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may cause damage.
Note: Long backlight settings, searching for service, vibrate
mode, web browser use, and other variables may reduce the battery’s talk and standby times.
Although you can use the phone while the battery is charging, doing so will require additional charging time.
Using the Charger
Important! Verify that the phone battery is installed prior to
connection. If the battery is not properly installed and the charger is connected, the handset may power off and on continuously, preventing proper operation.
Your phone comes with a charger (charging head and USB cable) to charge your phone from any 110/220 VAC outlet.
1. Insert the USB cable into the port.
Getting Started 12
2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, then plug

the charging head into a standard AC power outlet.
3. When charging is complete, unplug the charging head
from the power outlet and remove the USB cable from the phone.
Note: Failure to unplug the wall charger before you remove
the battery, can cause damage to the phone.
13
Low Battery Indicator
When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the battery icon ( ) blinks and the phone sounds a warning tone at regular intervals. In this condition, your phone conserves its remaining battery power, not by turning off the backlight, but by entering the dimming mode. For a quick check of your battery level, glance at the battery charge indicator located in the upper-right corner of your phone’s display. Solid color ( ) indicates a full charge.
When the battery level becomes too low, the phone automatically turns off.
You can also choose to display a percentage value. Having a percentage value onscreen can provide a better idea of the remaining charge on the battery.
From the Home screen, touch
Settings My device Display
Show battery percentage.
