Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Samson Graphite MF8, compact USB control surface! The Graphite MF8 gives you the performance and production control to easily integrate with Windows or Mac digital production workstations. The controller can also be powered directly by an Apple iPad (using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter, not included), to be used to control many iOS MIDI applications.

The Graphite MF8 is a full-featured control surface with eight channels with volume faders, pan knobs, solo/mute and record arm buttons, as well as transport controls. For expanded control the controller has five programmable function buttons, an assignable master encoder and crossfader. Five presets provide access to additional layers of control. To take full advantage of adjusting parameters and saving presets, you will need to download the free Graphite Mini computer editor from the Samson website (www.samsontech.com)

In these pages, you’ll find a detailed description of the features of the Graphite MF8 control surface, as well as a guided tour of its control panel, and ­inst­ructions for setup and use. You’ll also find a warranty card enclosed. Please don’t forget to fill it out and mail it in so that you can receive online technical support, and so that we can send you updated information about this and other Samson products in the future.

Quick Start

Computer

1.Connect the Graphite MF8 to your computer or iPad* using the supplied USB cable. The unit will receive power and transmit MIDI data via the USB connection.

If the Graphite MF8 is connected to a non-powered USB hub, it may not receive enough power to turn on. It is recommended that you connect the Graphite MF8 directly to your computer or to a powered USB hub.

2.Launch your DAW or virtual instrument software.

3.Set the Graphite MF8 as the MIDI Input and MIDI Output device.

*To connect directly to an iPad, you will need to use the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter (not included).

	ward, Stop, Play and Record functions (respectively) in the factory default setting.
	They can also be assigned to control different parameters using the computer
	editor.
6.	SHIFT Button - Pressing this button enables the Solo/Mute button to send the
	secondary function. When pressed the SHIFT button will light green to display it
	is engaged.

7.PRESET Button - Press this button to choose one of the five available presets. Presets are recalled by pressing one of the Function buttons. Each preset can have unique MIDI parameters assigned to the each control, and can be adjusted using the Graphite Mini computer editor. Preset 1 is assigned to work with computer software utilizing the Mackie Control protocol and cannot be modified.

8.Left < Button - This buttons can be set to transmit control or note information. Pressing the button will send the MIDI message and the button will light green. In Preset 1, this button will shift the controls down eight channels in your DAW.

9.Right > Button - This buttons can be set to transmit control or note information. Pressing the button will send the MIDI message and the button will light green. In Preset 1, this button will shift the controls up eight channels in your DAW.

10.Master Encoder - This continuous encoder sends continuous control data.

11.Crossfader - This assignable fader sends continuous control data to your DAW.

12.Function Buttons - The five function buttons can be used to send MIDI note or control information, and can be set to either toggle or momentary operation. The buttons are also used to select presets.

13.USB Connector - Connect the included USB-mini cable from this port to the USB connector on a computer to provide power to the controller, as well as to send and receive MIDI data.

Preset 1 • Remote Control

The first preset of the Graphite MF8 can be used as a control surface for most audio software titles without having to assign each parameter. Presets 2-4 can be customized to tailor the controller to your work environment.

The first preset utilizes the Mackie Control protocol to communicate to the software by synchronizing the Graphite MF8 controls with the controls in the software. Within the audio software preferences, Mackie Control should be selected in the Control Surface settings. For some software titles, the MIDI control input will need to be set to SAMSON Graphite MF8 (Controller).

Editing Parameters

The Graphite MF8 settings for presets 2-5 can be customized using the Graphite Mini computer editor, which can be found on the Samson website (www.samsontech.com). Using the computer editor allows you to modify, upload, and save presets. The following information outlines the available parameters for each control that can be adjusted.

Channel Faders, Channel Knobs, Crossfader, and Master Encoder:

MIDI Channel: Sets the specific MIDI channel that the control will transmit. Each channel strip (fader, knob, solo/mute and rec button) is set to a single MIDI channel.

Control Change: Sets the control change number that the control will transmit.

Solo/Mute, Rec, Left (<), Right (>), Function, and Transport Buttons:

MIDI Channel: Sets the MIDI channel number that the button will transmit.

Note or Control Change: Sets the button to transmit a note or control change message. Note Number or CC#: Sets the specific note number or CC# that the button will transmit. Type: Sets the button to toggle (sends an on message when first pressed and an off message when pressed again) or momentary (sends an on message when pressed and off message when released).

Le Graphite MF8 vous offre performances et maîtrise de la production pour s'intégrer facilement aux stations de travail de production numérique sous Windows ou Mac. Cette commande peut être alimentée directement par un Apple iPad (à l'aide du kit de connexion d'appareil photo iPad Apple ou de l'Adaptateur Lightning vers USB pour appareil photo, non joint à la livraison), destiné à contrôler de nombreuses applications iOS MIDI.
