Intializing—Restoring Factory
Settings
Use the following procedure to clear the internal
memory and reload the factory settings:
Caution: All USER information will be lost. Be sure to
back up any information you wish to keep.
1. Press the FUNCTION button (located to the left
of the cursor buttons .)
2. Use the cursor [4][6] buttons to locate
FACTORY RESET on the screen, then press the
ENTER button (located to the right of the cursor
buttons.)
3. When “All the factory settings will be restored”
appears on the screen, press the cursor [4]
button until EXECUTE is highlight ed on the
screen, then press the ENTER button.
4. When “Turn the power off, then on again”
appears on the screen, turn the power off and
then on to complete the factory reset.

Selecting Tones
Use the following procedure to select a tone:
1. Press a tone button (e.g. Piano, E.Piano, Organ,
etc.) in the TONE section (located to the left of
the cursor buttons .)
2. Use the cursor [3][4][5][6] buttons to locate a
tone on the screen.
TurboStart
3. Press the EXIT button (located to the right of the
cursor buttons .)

Selecting Dual Tones
Use the following procedure to select dual tones :
1. Simultaneously press two tone buttons (e.g.
Piano + Strings , E.Piano + Voice, etc.) in the
TONE section (located to the left of the cursor
buttons.)
2. Use the cursor [5][6] buttons to select TONE 2.
3. Press the cursor [4] button until TONE 1 is
highlighted on the screen.
4. Use the cursor [5][6] buttons to select TONE 1.
5. Press the cursor [4] button until DUAL
BALANCE is highlighted on the screen.
6. Use the cursor [5][6] buttons to adjust the
volume balance between TONE 1 and TONE 2.
7. Press the EXIT button (located to the right of the
cursor buttons .)

Selecting Split Tones
Use the following procedure to select split tones:
1. Select a right-hand tone as described under
“Selecting Tones” or “Selecting Dual Tones.”
2. Press the SPLIT button (located to the left of the
cursor buttons .)
3. Use the cursor [5][6] buttons to select a LEFTHAND TONE.
4. Press the EXIT button.
5. Press the cursor [4] button until SPLIT POINT is
highlighted on the screen.
6. Use the cursor [5][6] buttons to change the
note at which the LEFT-HAND TONE becomes
the RIGHT-HAND TONE.
7. Press the EXIT button (located to the right of the
cursor buttons .)

Selecting Pianist Styles
Use the following procedure to select a pianist style:
1. Press the PIANIST button (located to the left of
the cursor buttons .)
2. Use the cursor [3][4][5][6] buttons to locate a
pianist style.
3. Play a note on the lower half of the keyboard.
Note: The pianist style will automatically play an
introduction. To turn-off the introduction, press the
INTRO/ENDING button until the indicator is unlit.
4. Press the INTRO/ENDING button or the
START/STOP button (located to the left of the
cursor buttons.)
5. Press the EXIT button (located to the right of the
cursor buttons.)

TurboStart
Note: If “Delete the selected song. OK?” appears on
the screen, press the cursor [4] button until YES is
highlighted on the screen and then press the ENTER
button (located to the right of the cursor buttons.)
3. Press the REC [=] button (located to the right of
the cursor buttons .)
Note: The REC button indicator will light and the
PLAY button will blink.
4. Press the METRONOME button (located to the
right of the cursor buttons) and use the SLOW
and FAST buttons to adjust the tempo.
5. Play a song.
6. Press the STOP [<] button when you are done.
7. Press the RESET [9] button.
8. Press the PLAY [4] button to play the song.

Playing a Song from Disk
Use the following procedure to play a song from disk:
1. Insert a compatible SMF music disk into the
drive.
2. Press the SONG button (located to the right of
the cursor buttons ) several times until DISK is
highlighted on the screen.
3. Use the cursor [3][4][5][6] buttons to locate a
song on the screen.
Note: If “Deletes the song. OK?” appears on the
screen, press the cursor [4] button until YES is
highlighted on the screen and then press the ENTER
button (located to the right of the cursor buttons.)
4. Press the PLAY [4] button (located to the right
of the cursor buttons ) to play the song; press the
STOP [<] button to silence the piano.

Recording a Song
Use the following procedure to record a song:
1. Press the SONG button (located to the right of
the cursor button.)
2. Use the cursor [3][4][5][6] buttons to locate
“0: New Song” on the screen.
Saving a Recorded Song to Disk
Use the following procedure to save a recorded song
to disk:
1. Record a song as described under “Recording a
Song.”
2. Insert a formatted disk into the drive.
Note: Make sure the disk was formatted on an HPi-5
(Refer to the Owner’s Manual, pp. 36–37 for more
information.)
3. Press the FUNCTION button (located to the left
of the cursor buttons .)
4. Use the cursor [4][6] buttons to locate DISK on
the screen, then press the ENTER button
(located to the right of the cursor buttons.)
5. Press the ENTER button again to save in the
Roland i-Format.
6. Specify the song name and the save-destination
song number.
Note: Use the cursor [3][4] buttons to select an
item to set; use the cursor [5][6] buttons to change
characters or song numbers.
7. Press the ENTER button.
8. Press the EXIT button twice to return to the main
screen.
